I didnt get to do anything with the Chevelle again yesterday as I mowed the yard til dark in the rain .
Ms Grumpy I do have a good powered weedeater for all the weedeating but I still didnt weedeat everything . I didnt go around my shop or the ditch this time ,just didnt have enough time.

carpoor 04-18-2012 02:08 PM

Made some headway today... center link, tie rod ends, and idler arm are all painted. I cleaned and primered those yesterday. I took apart my steering shaft and regreased it, didn't really need it - but, peace of mind. I cleaned that up and gave it a coat of paint. I primered the sway bar, and painted one side of it. The sway bar bushing brackets got painted, as did the steering shaft coupler. I applied the eastwood coating to my exhaust manifolds as well. Feeling quite accomplished at the moment. :)

Tomorrow I am hoping to do the tie rod adjusting sleeves, the other side of the front sway bar, and start on the steering box, pitman arm, PS pump, and brackets. I'd love to have the crossmember and frame rails ready to paint by this weekend. Then reassemble everything next week.

Today I moved the 55 out ,the chevelle in ,all to get the El Camino out for a bath at the local car wash and a short cruise to dry her off .I think I will drive her tomorrow since it has a half tank of gas and my daily is on empty.

grandsport 04-25-2012 07:45 PM

What Chevelle?

flash 04-27-2012 11:55 AM

Last night I waxed the El Camino and got it shining like new money so of course I had to drive it again today .

BillsCamino 04-27-2012 12:10 PM

Ahhh...you're the reason that there's a chance of T-storms this afternoon!! :p

flash 04-27-2012 01:41 PM

Yep ,my fault . It sure is sticky and humid out today.

carpoor 04-27-2012 02:34 PM

I haven't had much time for my car sadly. :( Today I had some free time, but decided to donate my time to a friend. I am helping with the resto of his 72' Pontiac Lemans. We're building a GT tribute for the pure stock drags, complete with a real YS code 400 Pontiac.

Today I cut some rust out of the deck lid, and stripped 90% of the paint off the passenger side fender. I sent him a few picture texts to let him know that I got a jump start on both pieces for him. Hoping he will come over and sandblast the deck lid Monday, and finish stripping the fender. I already have the patch panel ready to go for the deck lid.

Where are the pics ,I like me some Pontiacs too.

Me and the boys got all the old cars out and gave them all a bath ,the boys loved it. They each got to drive one of them from the shop to the front of our house for tag team car washing .

Got to put the back seat of my Astro behind it in the garage. I should have my car to brothers shop in next couple weeks to fix trans leak.

shadowgray396 05-03-2012 09:56 PM

Finally uncovered the car today and dug in. Finished the inside trim around the rear window and got my sail panels secured. Purchased a set of beauty ring for the car today and installed them. Started to clean up the rear window for installation, put the hood installation in. Work on the carpet where I need to cut a hole for the 4 speed boot. Car is headed over in a week to have the motor put back in at my friends shop. June 15th is the drop dead date to finish the car. Car will be in it first car show on the 24th.

Looking good, Ray.

carpoor 05-05-2012 08:30 AM

Your car looks great Ray. :ntwrthy:

My restored horn showed up Thursday, very happy with the finished product. I would recommend Gary @ the Horn Works to anyone.

shadowgray396 05-05-2012 09:19 AM

Horns do look good. I may need mine done, won't know until I get power to the car to find out.

carpoor 05-05-2012 10:20 AM

Mine was missing, Gary even provided a core. I am quite happy that he was able to accommodate me. I finally bit the bullet and got a new, upgraded phone this week. Here are a few pictures of the engine bay currently. I spent about three hours on it the other day. Rust, undercoating, and grime had been painted over at least 5-6 times in the past. (not while I have owned it) It's a real mess, and has been taking forever to get clean.

With a little luck I may get everything cleaned and detailed by the end of next week. Then I can start reassembly. The PS pump and steering box are still sitting on the shop floor waiting to be broken down and cleaned/painted.

shadowgray396 05-05-2012 11:03 AM

Looking very nice. The time you spend on it now will only pay off later. :ntwrthy:

carpoor 05-05-2012 11:15 AM

I am just bummed it wasn't done when the car was apart for restoration. However, my father was very sick when finishing this car. And it's damned amazing he was even able to get it to this point. I hate working around fresh paint. Just the same, I am very grateful that I have this car. It was given to me by my father when he felt his time was short, he ended up getting a heart transplant three weeks later. Once he healed and was doing well, I tried to give the car back to him because it didn't feel right. But, he insisted I keep the car. Since then, I have been redoing the entire drivetrain. I started gathering parts in October of 2010, figured this would be a six month deal. (Yeah right!) Hoping it is running by this coming October with some luck.

shadowgray396 05-05-2012 05:54 PM

Thanks for sharing your story. It always takes longer then you think. BUt don't give up you will get there. Just take it one step at a time.

BillsCamino 05-05-2012 08:08 PM

Drove mine over to the ACES SE regional show today. Good to visit with a few old friends...some of which I haven't seen in a year.

flash 05-05-2012 08:56 PM

Bill ,it was good to see you briefly today .

shadowgray396 05-05-2012 10:54 PM

Moved ahead

Made some more progress today, but had some disappointments also. Got the headlights to work and the side markers, but no dash lights or tail lights. Have power at dash and it seems to be grounded. Test fit rear window and worked on the cowl induction.

Ray, I had the same issue with my 72' before I took it apart. I wish there was some sort of an update for that sealed circuit strip. I am dreading the day when I have to deal with that again. My sealed circuit panel is repop, the original was toast.

fleming23 05-06-2012 06:28 PM

Beautiful progress!

I have gone through so many circuit boards in the past 2 years.... I absolutely hate that design!

shadowgray396 05-06-2012 08:56 PM

For some reason it's looking like I don't have any power on two of my fuses. One is the dash lights and the other is the heater. I don't get any kind of reading with the key on or off. I've checked both sides of the fuse and nothing. Everything else has power. My clock is even working.

SS Shaun 05-07-2012 12:28 PM

i have not done anything to the chevelle in weeks! i promise i am going to get my rear complete this week! i am actually going to order my parts needed to complete my rear tonight!

fleming23 05-07-2012 02:02 PM

My progress/status

Getting sprayed once again. Had a few spots in the door and some less than perfect body gaps. After all was fixed, the side of the car was resprayed
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1336409961

Can't wait to get it back after wet sanding & polishing!

shadowgray396 05-07-2012 03:27 PM

That looking very nice. Always like the green Chevelles

carpoor 05-08-2012 07:32 AM

Yesterday after work I spent a couple more hours scraping and wire brushing the frame rails and front suspension. I came to the realization that I need to either - quit while I am ahead, or take everything apart. I spoke to my father last night, and he said he hadn't gotten around to replacing the bushings. That said, it is definitely coming apart. New bushings will be ordered today.

As you can see in these pictures, with it all together - there simply is no way I will ever be able to get everything clean like I want.

Working on these cars is labor of love. It will be well worth it when you are done.

SS Shaun 05-09-2012 08:47 AM

carpoor 05-09-2012 09:52 AM

Spent the rest of the afternoon stripping and priming the driver's side frame rail.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...886/72LS5m.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...886/72LS5n.jpg

Today's agenda - remove old bushings, strip and primer these...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...886/72LS5o.jpg

shadowgray396 05-09-2012 02:11 PM

I would put ball joints in it while you got it apart.

shadowgray396 05-09-2012 04:22 PM

Made progress on the electrical. Got my dash lights working after replacing the light switch. Heater works if I wiggle the switch, so time for a new switch. Still have no tail lights. Need to check the ground, I'm hoping thats the problem.

Ms Grumpy 05-09-2012 07:19 PM

Made arrangements to have the new EFI installed and the air conditioning installed. I will be checking with NPD to see if they have them in stock. Should have my car at the shop early next week.

WOO HOO !

grandsport 05-09-2012 08:40 PM

It was a real chore to uncover him and drive 10 miles to get him up to operating temperature and change the oil and filter on Sunday.Sometimes I wonder if it is really worth keeping the car.
