Gonna crawl in there with a flash light. And have my buddy lock me in and hit it with the hose.

That's the only way you will find it. Could be a seal, but I'm guessing you have a pin hole somewhere around the lower corner of your window.

flash 02-16-2014 05:54 PM

Your trunk gasket could also be in upside down .

smokenjoep01 02-16-2014 09:42 PM

Upside down?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

flash 02-16-2014 10:00 PM

It will fit either way but if its upside down it will leak .If I remember correctly the fatter side goes down .

shadowgray396 02-16-2014 10:33 PM

Should be like the one on my 70, it will only go on one way. It has a groove in it that slips under the lip of the trunk to keep it in place. I didn't even have to glue mine to keep it in place.

smokenjoep01 02-17-2014 07:30 AM

Mine has a groove that slides over the rib around the trunck.
Day off on Mondays! And its sunny and warm.
Gonna play with it some more today

Decided to cruise down to Myrtle beach and do a little shakedown. About 75 miles one way. Plus we cruised around quite a bit down there. Nice and sunny in high 50's. Car ran great!
I put Hush Matt in Sunday night. Had enough to do the roof, floor and kick panel areas. Well worth the money spent on the matt.
Sunday during the day I installed new fuel tank/ sender and the nitrous bottle.

How much of a difference did the hush mat make? Was it pretty easy to form to the floor?New tank and bottle look nice too!

smokenjoep01 02-17-2014 08:47 PM

Hush matt was a breeze to install. I suggest a small wooden hand roller to really get it pressed in good. I wore my fingers out;)
I will be buying more to do the entire car. Well worth it. Very noticeable difference.

Well with just over 1,800. miles my Chinese all aluminum radiator (Champion) started leaking were the tanks meet the core. Both sides, top to bottom. They do have a lifetime warranty. But its $29.00 shipping each way. Its just over $80.00 for a Chinese alum/plastic radiator here local.
So I bellied up for the new local rad. I need to keep driving it. To get warranty I need to ship first rad to west coast. Hopefully they will replace it with a new one. That I will sell or keep as spare.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/04/a3yqudap.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/04/jeqadyry.jpg

That really Bites ,if you were closer I would loan you one ,I have a new copper one in the box.

carpoor 03-08-2014 08:23 AM

I hated to spend the money, but bought a Dewitt for my 72'. I forsee buying another for the 69' when the time comes.

Berg 03-13-2014 08:37 AM

The car is looking great! I've had bad luck with some of the aftermarket aluminum radiators with plastic tanks but then again I have the original radiators in some of my trucks for over 225k and they are still going strong. If I did anything other than the original Harrison I think I'd go with a fully welded aluminum radiator and just shell out whatever it would cost to keep it from biting me later on.

smokenjoep01 03-19-2014 05:47 PM

Well the car got hit again. My wife made a little mistake. I can fix it!
What ya think the repair bill is going to cost?

Wow... you just cannot catch a break. :(

flash 03-19-2014 06:39 PM

WOW ,So sorry to see that ,what happened ? It looks like several thousand dollars worth to me but I seen you fix it the first time so you can do it again .

chevymaher 03-19-2014 08:15 PM

I would be fit to be tied. Sorry.
My van is like that gets totaled every 2-3 years. I keep rebuilding that thing to.

Quadracer392 03-19-2014 08:28 PM

Oh wow man. Sorry to see this happen just after fixed your radiator. Hopefully you're able to get it back on the road soon. So what happen? It's kinda hard to tell from the pictures.

smokenjoep01 03-20-2014 07:00 AM

Wife tuned in front of a mini van she didnt see coming.
The dented fender was 2500.00 this is going to be 10k.
Good news is I am pretty sure I have a 25k Agreed value policy. Talking to insr. Today

flash 03-20-2014 08:45 AM

Joe ,good luck with the ins company and again sorry to see this but it will be like new again before you know it .I know your wife must be heartbroken over this so give her a hug and let her know it could have been much worse .

shadowgray396 03-20-2014 10:07 PM

Sorry to see that happen. You just got it fixed from a December hit. That more then sheet metal damage. There's a very good chance you have a bent frame. At least 10k if you have it fixed by a body shop. Hope no one was hurt.

smokenjoep01 03-21-2014 06:53 AM

Everybodys safe. Just some hurt feelings.
As soon as I get the adjuster to look at it. Im pulling the nose and replacing all the control arms with tubular arms and replacing any other suspension damaged. Then to frame shop. Then paint and body!
Was really looking forward to Run to the sun this weekend & my son was taking it to the prom :(

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

shadowgray396 03-21-2014 08:38 AM

You may have to repair the frame before any suspension parts go on. If the area where the A arms attach is bent, you will not get new A arms on it.

smokenjoep01 03-21-2014 01:36 PM

Way Im dealing with it is just keep thinking " it will be Better" than before

smokenjoep01 03-23-2014 09:23 AM

Im thinking of updating to tubular control arm package.
Or a rack & pinion set up. Are there such kits for converting Chevelles ?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

shadowgray396 03-23-2014 09:37 AM

There are rack and pinion kits out there for the Chevelle. Ones I have seen run between $1500 to $3000 for the kit. Tubular package would be way cheaper and a lot less work to install.

Quadracer392 03-23-2014 08:52 PM

I was actually looking at a R&P kit from unisteer which was a direct bolt on for about 1,700 or so. Looked like a nice set up.

Sounds like a good set up. I have learned from the years nothing is a direct bolt in or as easy as it seems. lol

I hear ya on that! I don't really know a whole lot about it, but it kinda does look like it's bolt on. Looks like it uses the original steering box bolt holes and the Idler arm bolt holes. plus it comes with a new pump. I don't anyone that's running a R&P setup but I'm sure it's nicer that the ol steering box set up.

I guessed 10k, I was off by a little. Are you going to try to fix it or are you going to look for a shop who is capable to handle a classic?

smokenjoep01 03-30-2014 04:55 AM

I have a 25k agreed value policy. So there going to fix it.
Well, Im going to replace the suspension parts. The shop that just finished the last repair will be doing the body work and paint. They really did a good job and fixed some of the prior paint blemishes.
This time the entire car gets repainted!
My buddy says his car is a 20 footer and mine a 5 footer. Meaning how close you get before you see the blemishes.
This time around it should be dam near show quality!

I hope you get to enjoy it some this summer.

smokenjoep01 03-30-2014 05:15 PM

Im really overwhelmed with this suspension upgrade stuff.
Im looking to spend about 2K in the suspension. Thats about what has been estimated to repair the suspension damage. Im thinking upper and lower front Tubular control arms are a must at minimum.
Are they all corrected to reduce camber? As a parts retailer. Im quite aware of the cheap ebay parts. But I see some good revues and even american made sets reasonable priced all I've ebay.
Then theres coil overs or not?? Swaybar needs to be upgraded?
Could somebody more familiar with all the options give me some guidance.

I would check into Detroit Speed and they are located in Charlotte ,Nc or that general area and they know their stuff. Kyle and his wife are auto engineers that used to work for GM I think before going out on their own.

Quadracer392 03-30-2014 08:01 PM

Another good high quality suspension company is UMI. All of their parts are made in house in philipsburg, PA. They have great customer service and a ton of separate parts or packages for the chevelles at very reasonable prices. http://umiperformance.com/catalog/in...=index&cPath=2
