Left work early today, hit my 40 hours for the week early. Started loading paint stripper on that last control arm, and sure it enough it started to rain shortly after.

If it lets up this afternoon, I'll try to finish stripping it by hand with sandpaper. Then lay a coat of primer on it. I am hoping for little to no rain next week so I can finish cleaning and painting the front frame section and cross member.

After everyone at work has been asking for over a year to see my car I finally took it today. The whole dealership was totally amazed by it.Really did not want to do it as it made me feel bad for some of the guys.I am not a showoff by nature,I think that is the main reason I dont really like car shows.

shadowgray396 06-09-2012 09:39 AM

Glad to here you got the car out. I like car shows to see the car, not for the awards.

Bowtie-Bri 06-10-2012 11:18 AM

I pulled the AC compressor off my Chevelle this past friday. The front seal behind the clutch assy was leaking oil. Hope to have it back together soon so I can be C@@L and look C@@L all at the same time. :D

Drove ours home from Chevellabration in the rain ,but had a blast all weekend.

Why did you feel bad for some of the guys ?

Gary, you have worked long and hard to achieve what you have with your car. I think everyone who works on classics, has classics, appreciates all the work that you have done to your car. I think you should go to car shows. I don't think it would be showing off, I think with your car you would be showing people a beautiful machine. Besides, you are one of the people I would love to see at a car show, because you are approachable. There are a lot of people out there that have these beautiful cars and just want to sit there and win an award for it, I know that is not who you are.

You are cool...... so cool Brian.

I wanted to pick my car up yesterday. But after a full day at Chevellabration, then the 9+ hour drive home. I took David out to b'fast and ended up being awake for 30+ hours and finally crashed at about noon on Sunday. Hopefully I will be able to pick it up tonight, as long as it doesn't rain.

Ordered a hydro-boost conversion from Hydratech. Should be here in 3 weeks or so.

After a few hundred miles this weekend I realized the big block just isn't making enough vacuum (8-10") to support the 11" booster & Wilwood calipers. It was a little concerning at the end of Music City's 1/8th mile when trying to slow the car down but I managed, just didn't feel comfortable doing so.

This should cure my stopping concerns!

6 speed vs 700r4

I'm debating this too, 5 speed in my case let me know what and why you decide.
Thanks

Took frame and lower control arm to powder coat shop and ordered lower control arm ball joints and bushing.

Can't believe my luck

Right now I'm so mad I could ******. Just found out the wire harness for the engine is the wrong one and since I purchased it over a year ago I now have to buy another one for the car meaning more delays, maybe up to 3 weeks. Turns out the one I have is for a full size car and not for my Chevelle, plus it doesn't have the HEI wire I need in it. Nothing on this build has gone right it seems. Just about ready to sell it and be done with it. Can't believe my luck with this project.

You will love the hydro-boost. Made a HUGE difference for me.

I feel your pain Ray. We had purchased many parts we knew we needed. Then the build took longer than anticipated and we found out we had a few parts that were not going to work. What a pain in the behind. I hope things start going better for you.

shadowgray396 06-12-2012 08:27 AM

Thanks Nancy, just needed to vent. I'm trying to find out if there is any way I can get the correct harness send ASAP so I can keep moving forward. What gets me is they are saying I switch the harness. It's the only one I have had all this time. I just put it in a month ago. Wish I had kept the package it came in. Still going to try to put the motor in tomorrow.

BBChevelle 06-12-2012 06:24 PM

After 4 months of neglect I finally pulled it out adjusted the carb and went for a ride. Came back and took the doors apart to clean and lube the locking mechanisms so I can put the poppers and solenoids on I've had for 5 years in the tool box. Gonna be nice to push a button and have the doors open up.

Fat fingered from the phone- Corey

fleming23 06-12-2012 06:46 PM

With the new hydro-boost set up coming and now that vacuum is no longer of importance, I made a call to one of the popular camshaft makers with some proven combos over on TC.

Chris Straub is designing a new cam for the 496 that according to him may not give me much more in the way of peak power but said it will be much more noticeable across the power range and give me a power band that is 5-600 RPM greater in both directions. Duration should stay pretty close to the current 240/244 but will be on a 107 LSA vs the 110. Everyone who has a Straub stick seems more than pleased with it so I am hoping for good things!

"Hi. My name is Eric. I am apparently never satisfied with the current state of my Chevelle"

Ms Grumpy 06-12-2012 08:33 PM

Picked my car up today and drove her home. YEAH !!!! What a joy it was getting onto the e-way and giving her a little gas. With the EFI it turned right over, I had to give it one little pump on the gas pedal to keep it running, she was cold, after that it ran like a charm. It was so great hearing the roar of the engine and just driving my car.

Now it is time to give my car a good cleaning, probably in the next few days.

flash 06-12-2012 09:03 PM

After driving home from CB12 in the rain ours needs a lot of cleaning ,not sure when that will happen. I washed and vacced the 96 Explorer and got it looking good and put the for sale signs on and it gets parked at the top of my driveway after work tomorrow .I already had one person interested in it so we will see what happens ,it is going cheap.

SS Shaun 06-12-2012 10:22 PM

shadowgray396 06-13-2012 09:53 AM

Cool Ray...

Good Luck Shaun...

As for my car....I wanted to drive it, but I wasn't home.

shadowgray396 06-14-2012 01:18 AM

Just got in and it's after 11pm. Started working on the car around 1pm today. Here's the progress we made today. Hit a couple of snags, one I'm missing a rod that connects the reverse lock out to the steering column and the frame bracket. I'm also need to replace the clutch pedal rod between the pedal and the Z Bar. Hoping I can find what I need tomorrow. If I had the wiring harness I need and the parts above this car would be running tomorrow. I have to say thank you to may friend who is letting use his shop the next few days.

Had a new motor put in and just got the car back so today we are cleaning and waxing for a local car show on Sat.

carpoor 06-15-2012 03:02 PM

Finally had time and agreeable weather to finish stripping the last control arm. I shot some primer on it and called it a day. I am off Sunday, weather permitting - I'll lightly sand it and shoot some paint on it. I still have over half of the front frame and cross member to strip, primer, and paint. Plus the spindles, steering arms, and calipers. I am worn out just thinking about it.

So cool. Hope you have a great time !

carpoor 06-17-2012 07:50 AM

Got the control arm painted yesterday, will be painting the cross shaft and some other small parts today. I need to place another order to Eastwood. I am really liking the chassis black, hard to believe it lays down so smooth, and gives that kind of finish - from an aerosol can!

shadowgray396 06-17-2012 09:47 AM

No new news to report, still waiting on an engine harness and a few small parts so I can finish getting the car running.

carpoor 06-17-2012 12:50 PM

Managed to get out there early this morning before meeting my folks for lunch.

Installed an HEI rev limiter module today so I hopefully prevent any accidental over-revs.

Messed with the front & rear shock adjustments to get a little better ride quality for the street.

Then went out and drove it!

BillsCamino 06-17-2012 06:44 PM

Fixed a minor oil leak...tightened the oil guage fitting in the block today on the '67.
Flew out to and drove back home from Gainesville, FL yesterday...picked up my truck/trailer I loaned out @ CB '12.

Chevelle_Nut 06-17-2012 08:08 PM

I worked on prepping a steering column for paint.
