Congrats ray !!!

Ms Grumpy 07-12-2012 11:12 PM

Me, I spent 4 1/2 hours cleaning mine today. I went to a car show last week and some guy climbed under the back end of my car and was checking things out for about 5 minutes. When he got up I asked him what he was doing and he said just seeing how clean it was under there, so I asked how was it...he said it looked pretty clean. So it got me to thinking, how clean is "pretty clean" and I just had to spend some time cleaning it.

So after I was done cleaning my baby I took my 3 kids to the local A & W drive in and the kids got rootbeer floats and were very happy. I tried out the a/c on the kids, but they just wanted to ride with the windows down and the radio blaring. Great time, until we got home and I went to pull my car into the garage and after all that work today there is a layer of dust all over her. Gotta love a black car.

fleming23 07-13-2012 10:59 AM

Put on a new GM mini-starter in place of the DB electrical one I had. Starting the car is sooooo smooth now! I don't know why but the DB starter did not like to say aligned with the flywheel.

Also managed to drop the air cleaner wing nut right into the carb yesterday. Thankfully it was not running and the butterfly stopped it so I could get it with a magnet but it was definitely one of those "uh-oh" moments!

Got the hydroboost all installed. Need to bleed the brakes but everything seems good thus far. Pump is moaning even after turning the wheel lock to lock 20+ times. Pedal also feels bad if you press it hard but I am hoping there is just air in the lines. Brakes are definitely much improved though! Drove it around the neighborhood and it takes very little effort to make your face want to kiss the front windshield.

Cam is sitting in the rear seat floor board, waiting to go in. Just need my new transmission to be built and things will being to come apart, again.....

carpoor 07-13-2012 12:58 PM

I started to strip and clean the front frame again. Put in maybe an hour and a half - started raining. It close to lunch time, so I stopped for lunch. It is now overcast and threatening to rain again. This is the first day off I have had in almost 30 days. :(

Ms Grumpy 07-13-2012 06:30 PM

Didn't do anything to/with my car today. I think I over did it in the sun yesterday and feeling a little sick to my stomach today.

Congrats Ray ,hope to see it in person one day ,beautiful car and well worth the wait .What are your final things to do besides the hood and the gauge cluster problems .It looks like you are very close ,any chance you will be bringing it to Chevellabration next year ?

Alignment on next Tuesday, back window and windshield installed on Wednesday, Carb shop on friday for final tune up and first car show on Saturday July 22nd. Plan to put the console, radio speakers in, hood on tomorrow and work on the gauges. If Chevellabration happens next year there will be a good chance I will trailer down there.

I was going to go to a local cruise...til I got a call from my sister to bring the kids and come on over and go swimming. She works a lot of hours, she is a respiratory therapist at a hospital and teaches college classes, and the fact that it was 90 degrees and the kids were driving me crazy, I decided to take them to her place. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow.

shadowgray396 07-14-2012 11:55 PM

One week to go before our car show next Saturday. Got the hood on, console in, some wiring issues figured out and will finish up the cowl induction hook up tomorrow. Also put the hood pins in today. Still have a carb problem and may not get solved until friday when it go into the carb shop. Windows go in on Wednesday. I also now have two empty bedrooms that use to have parts stored in them.

i spent some time in the garage today not done but i laid out the new fuel line since i didnt want to remove the frame from the body (since i dont know how :)
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...-18-56_206.jpg

not clamped in but layed out

i should of taken pictures of the before but the exhaust was all jacked up! so i cut the funky looking sleeves that he had on it. put the inserts so it can bolt to the headers then the back half of the muffler was cut really bad so i made a nice clean cut and the tail pipe was cleaned up pretty nice. then as i was working on it i noticed 4 holes in the exhaust system. so i welded it and ground it nice so it can look pretty for everyone that i run over..lol

shadowgray396 07-15-2012 09:54 PM

Finally got the gas gauge and AMP gauge working correctly today. I had to switch the black and black/white wires (terminals 3&4) in the PCB connector to get the AMP to show the discharge in the correct direction. Only thing left is to put the radio speakers in now and dash pad on. The interior should be done.

On a side note I emailed the guy I got my motor from in Indiana and he said his shadowgray Chevelle, house and garage was destroyed in a fire on June 20th. You just never know what might happen.

Looking good. Lifting the body you have to take the body bolts loose in the frame about 4 on each side depending on the year. Probably better you leave them because if you spin a cage bolt it would be a lot more work to fix it.

Bullcrappy 07-16-2012 06:46 AM

Really nice. love the color.

OMG. That is so sad.

I will say Ray, yours is looking so nice. I hope someday to be able to see it in person, especially since it looks so nice in pictures.

Just got back my all my stainless for my windows, drip rails, and lower front window stainless. It has a mirror finish on it. Windows go in on Wednesday.

Ms Grumpy 07-17-2012 09:12 PM

With the temperature hovering around 100 degree and high humidity, I just decided I couldn't go out in my car today. Instead I grabbed the charcoal from beside it and smoked some pork and ribs today.

shadowgray396 07-19-2012 12:47 AM

Windows tonight and all the moldings, plus the dash pad. Almost done so very close.

Ray, your car is beautiful and I just love shadow gray and the white interior is just a plus. How much would it take for you to sell it? Because I'll always be interested. Are those the original color combos btw?

shadowgray396 07-19-2012 01:17 AM

Car has it's original color, but originally came with black interior. My first car I started was shadowgray but had the white. I think the white give it the wow factor over the black. I would not let this car go for less then 40k for all the work and time I have invested in this car. This is 6 1/2 years of waiting, looking for original parts and who knows how many hours I have invested in this car. Thanks for your kind words. It will be in it first car show on Saturday.

Whenever your ready to sell let me know, I really want to own a shadow gray 70 and still keep the 69. Then I could have my own mini collection.:D

I hope you have good luck and take home a big trophy!

carpoor 07-19-2012 03:18 PM

Ray - I don't know how you could even think of parting with it after all the time, effort, & money you have poured into that car. I've had a few shady people inquire about my 72' even though it isn't advertised. (I'm sure they were thinking $10K would buy it.) And I replied with, "Sure. $100,000.00" Basically my way of telling them it isn't for sale. Though... I am pretty sure I'd part with it for $100,000.00 if someone was damn fool enough to pay it. ;)

Most of my parts from The Parts Place and Ground Up have arrived the past two days. Haven't had any time to work on the car lately due to the weather and my work schedule. Maybe Sunday?

shadowgray396 07-19-2012 03:21 PM

This car is going no where. When I'm to old for it my son will get the car, hoping he will want to keep it long after I'm gone.

I wouldn't want it any other way if I were in your shoes. I am 33, no kids. Kind of worried about what I will do with my beloved car when my end is near.

Nice Camaro, took a break from the car tonight. Will be loadinig it on a trailer in the morning and heading to the shop to get the carb adjusted so it will idle.

fleming23 07-20-2012 12:12 PM

Installed a 71/72 fan shroud and another brand new fan clutch (fighting an overheating issue after prolonged periods of sitting)

I took mine on a little cruise around last night. Drove so nice (except for the slipping 2nd gear.....but I will ignore that). Then I got home and let it sit for about 10 minutes and it started overheating. Still haven't solved that problem.

Actually, if things go as planned, I might have to leave work early just so I can get home and take the car out for another cruise!

shadowgray396 07-20-2012 02:19 PM

On the move today. Car is at the tune up shop trying to get it to idle correctly.

If I had no kids, my car would go to the friend/family that has enjoyed the car with me. The person who was always willing to help, not because they expected anything out of it but because they really enjoyed it.

Ms Grumpy 07-20-2012 06:49 PM

Today was a beautiful day. And of course I had to feel like crap. I took my daughter to the airport at 4 am this morning, she needed to get back to New York. When I got home I figured I would just stay up, but I fell asleep in the most uncomfortable chair and woke up with the headache from hell. So I have been fighting it all day, what a bummer.

flash 07-20-2012 07:09 PM

I walked by the Chevelle and Elky and the other 2 but had time to do nothing.
