He worked hard to get where he is today vs some of the new artists of today and has a very loyal following. I seen him last year in concert at the Palace, seen a lot of people my age but also a lot of 30 something's as well.

I saw him in 69 or 70, he actually played for a dance in our high school gym.

I lived right down the street from his drummer at one time.

When I was the manager of "The Urban Cowboy" saloon in Westland, he stopped by one night and sang a few songs.

Another night this big burly guy came in and asked me "ya got anywhere we can park a big ol bus ?? I said welllll.........so he says we're "The Charlie Daniels Band".....oh hell yes, I'll find you a place. They came in and jammed for about 2 hours.

We used to get all kinds stopping by and jam at the bar:
Claude King............"Wolverton Mountain"
Johnny Lee............."Lookin for Love in All The Wrong Places"
Foghat
David Frizzell
David Allan Coe

I am jealous Ken. I grew up listening to him and have loved his music. He even put my name in one of his songs. lol

Pretty good article Ric. I remember CKLW like it was yesterday. Damn, time has flown by.

I listened to him on AM radio, 8 tracks, cassettes, discs, and now on Pandora on the computer.

My buddy Ralph had a 72 BB Camaro in the mid 70's. Whenever we were in his car and "Ramblin, Gamblin Man" came on the radio, he would stop in the road and do a hell of a burnout. Just one of those things, I suppose. Life was a hell of a lot simpler back then.
