Hey Hank and Tony do either one of you remember how to set dwell and point gap? I bought all the stuff for the Camaro including a dwell meter and if I get in trouble I may need some help. It has been 40 years since I have done it.

The first thing I did to the Chevelle 20 years ago was put a electronic ignition so I did not have to mess with it but the Camaro is too original to do it to.

Yep. The hard part is crawling into the engine compartment to reach the points and condenser. Give me a call if you get stumped.

Rick, why not do a pertronix or crane cams electronic conversion?

2 methods for points. Idle and turn the adjustment. It will start to die out. Go the ther way and it dies out. Put it in the middle.

Or the old use a matchbook cover as a feeler gauge.

Not that hard. Set the gap on the points with a feeler gauge, that will get you pretty close. Hook up the dwell meter to the ignition coil and start it up. Adjust the dwell the same way you did the gap until you get what you want. You can give me a call as well but Tony only has points ignition so I'm sure he's done it more recently than me. Then again he can't my Nova running so who knows.

Wait, Whut? You gotta set the points gap and use some kinda machine thingy on points? Well I'll be damned. That could be what's been wrong with "your" POS Nova all these years?

Here's what happened with the Nova. This all started when the POS stalled last year in Frankenmuth. No fire when it is hot. Checked spark at coil, had none. Bad coil, right? I bought a new Mallory coil, which is now made in China, installed it, car seemed to run fine for a while. Then it stalled again. No fire at coil when hot. Cools off and fires right up. Check voltage to coil positive, have a full 12 volts going to it. Supposed to be around 9.7, so I check the resistor wire, it's putting a full 12 volts into coil. Hummmm, bad resistor wire? Say what the hell, buy a coil that has a built in resistor, car fires right up and seems to run fine. Wrong, gets hot and stalls again after 20 or so miles. Decide to check voltage when running. Shit!!! 16.8 volts feeding coil!! Check voltage at battery, same thing. Change voltage regulator, had a new Lectric Limited AMERICAN made one in stock, bamm! Around 13.8 now going to battery and coil when running, 12.8 when sitting. Go to Advance Auto and buy a 1.75 ballast resistor. Install new "super dupper" Mexican made POS ballast resistor. Start car and POS ballast starts to smoke. Turns the whole thing black. Get mad, jerk POS off car and throw across garage. Call Lectric Limited and order new AMERICAN made 12 volt coil. Go to the only REAL parts store left in a hundred mile radius, Arrow Automotive, buy a 1.75 AMERICAN made ballast resistor. Install new AMERICAN made coil and resistor, check voltage when running. 12.8 going into resistor, 9.7 coming out of resistor. Now have low voltage going to points. Seems to be fine now.

Hank, come get this POS before I have to fix something else. The storage fees that you will have to pay are getting pretty high.

What year Nova ? I had a 66' SS and a 67' - loved those cars.

It's a 70. I like the 66-67 too.
