SS Shaun 11-20-2011 07:53 PM

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6393.jpg
it was reading the back lash of .14
got my new posi in
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6394.jpg

Berg 12-26-2011 08:31 AM

hey Shaun- how's the progress going? I've been tackling some rust on mine but I got the big block and 4 speed in it so it is running and driving with brakes, although I had to drop the fuel cell back in the trunk for now until I get some more money to finish off the fuel system. So you decided to get away from the 454/4 speed and go with new generation sbc and automatic, I'm interested to see how this comes out. I just passed up a guy who wanted to trade me an LS1 and a 4L60E out of a 2000 Camaro for a 350 with all accessories. In hindsight I probably should have grabbed it but I'm still fighting for room in the garage for the Chevelle as it is! I've followed a few of these swaps on other forums anywhere from bare bones coffee jar of loose change budget to all out crate engine with custom harness swaps done. I think the biggest part of it is sourcing the parts and using the right engine and trans mounts and mounting the accessories to clear the crossmember. I noticed a lot of guys are using F-body oil pans and/or cutting and replacing the engine crossmember with 2x3 boxed tube or some other fabrication

smokenjoep01 12-26-2011 08:58 AM

Really interesting thread. Keep up the good work. Post plenty of pictures of the conversion.
Is that 6.0 cosidered a small block or big block?
How is the engine and transmission manegment gonna be controlled? Do u use the original computer or are there aftermarket applications?

SS Shaun 12-27-2011 09:31 AM

thanks i have not done much until lastnight. i finally bolted in the rear end to the car. i have one bolt left to bolt in. and i will snap some pictures. new springs new shocks. going to get new hard ware for my brake system some time this weeks so i can say my rear is completely done. as for the 6.0 i guess i would say its a small block because thats a 370ci. but it almost puts out big block power. out the box stock it makes 350hp with 380tq i am planning on putting a cam and a ls6 intake with headers and i will be done with the performace part of it. i am hoping for 425-450hp with 450-480 tq when i am done. as for the computer i am going to use a stock LS1 tuned for a 6.0 and i am also switching over a t56 of some kind so it should be fun...lol

SS Shaun 03-04-2012 09:54 PM

man its been a long time since updated this thread!
its been a while so my chevelle is back on all 4s
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6906.jpg

i have not seen the inside of the chevelle like this in a while
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6908.jpg

but i messed it up again but for a good reason. I'll get to that in a bit. but since the guy who bought my motor backed out on me i left the 454 in and i got it and started getting together to get it running.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6910.jpg

I tried this bracket
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6927.jpg
it just didnt work at all!

so i took the old bracket i had and i blasted it here is before
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6993.jpg

and here is the after!
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6994.jpg

SS Shaun 03-04-2012 09:58 PM

here are the pulleys

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6995.jpg

here are all the brackets
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6996.jpg

all on the motor
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7000.jpg

so after all that i tackled the engine wiring harness

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...20228-2229.jpg

and here it is with the belt on it
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7053.jpg

SS Shaun 03-04-2012 10:09 PM

so this weekend I wanted to get the shifter in and installed and in right. I searched online and finally found a website that showed you exactly how to put it in and to get it in neutral. and let me tell you i was SO exited to see this!

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7050.jpg

so my brother in law and i worked on the car and we wanted to put in the gas tank so i can run my fuel line but we kept hearing something in the tank. we checked everything and we did everything we could not find it. i put in a magnet inside and all around and nothing. finally after almost an hour and almost giving up i looked in the filler neck and we rocked it and i saw it fly by. After seeing that we tilted it little by little and we stopped and it was right in front of where the sending unit and this is what we found
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7092.jpg
after getting that out we didnt hear anything else!

so then we get it in place but we got tired..lol
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7093.jpg
after that we took the roll of fuel line and tried to straighten it out some
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7052.jpg

and this is how i left it tonight

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7094.jpg

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7095.jpg

and more to come next weekend i am going to take the shifter off again and put new bushings and clips on it so it can shift in a better way. and run the fuel line. if i have enough time i am going to run the wiring harness from the trunk to the fuse box hope thats a good update

shadowgray396 03-04-2012 10:33 PM

Isn't the top alternator bracket for a 68 not a 69?

SS Shaun 03-04-2012 10:36 PM

i dont know i bought it from North East Chevelle i told him what i had and what i needed and it turned out to be the wrong size i guess because the alt couldnt spin freely. the Fins would his it and i didnt want to cut or trim it. so i just went back to the one that came with my motor.

shadowgray396 03-04-2012 11:00 PM

Actually the one that came for you motor is the one I'm asking about. Since your not running a stock alternator may be why the one you got didn't work.

SS Shaun 03-05-2012 09:38 AM

well if that is the case my motor is right out of a 73 chevelle. the motor ran but not so well. found the head gasket was blown on it. but we took it right out of the car and according to the owner of that car it was all orig. so that being said that is a bracket from a 73 chevelle unless he changed it over the years and forgot or didnt tell me. The alt was sent out by me to a company in nj to be rebuilt and i had them chrome what they could so i am guess its stock from the 73 as well but i'll never know.

shadowgray396 03-05-2012 06:20 PM

That makes since, I agree that is the type used in 73.

SS Shaun 03-10-2012 09:45 PM

replaced the bushings in the shifter no real pictures but i can shift it and put it in gear with no issues! but i still think i am going to go 6 speed :)

SS Shaun 03-11-2012 10:27 PM

the new bushing and clips installed
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7098.jpg
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7099.jpg
old plastic like bushing
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7102.jpg
shifter in place
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7103.jpg

and then the mother load! i took the dash off finally and completed the wiring harnes
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_7104.jpg

i only have one thing i didn't know where it went. its a ground wire with a big loop on it i'll post the pic in a few

SS Shaun 03-11-2012 10:41 PM

ok so where does this go?

shadowgray396 11-25-2012 10:15 PM

It could be the picture but your distribution block is looking way to close to your headers. I have read where it needs to be moved when using headers. Otherwise looking good.

SS Shaun 11-25-2012 10:52 PM

yeah i have to bend it back because when i was trying to get the one on the bottom loose i bent the arm that holds it in place.

SS Shaun 12-10-2012 08:36 AM

got the wheels for the chevelle. I need to get the correct lugs for it but here they are

Next time you need lugnuts check out Lugnut King out of California ,much better quality and better pricing than the local guys .I met them in Mississippi at a swap meet and really liked doing business with them.

SS Shaun 12-27-2012 10:31 PM

well i need a set for the rear! i will look into it

SS Shaun 05-25-2013 12:43 AM

its been a while since i have updated this thread so let me do some updating :)
i finally got the motor running with a little help from my friend Ron
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJHnDvUI3EE

it sounded so strong and so good i was very happy!! still have a lot of work to do.

I changed the alt bracket to the correct bracket here is a pic of the old one
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps37be638f.jpg
and the new one
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psee4a9435.jpg

today i made some custom fuel lines, i am very proud of how it came out. I do however have to change the inlet from the fuel line to the carb because they gave me the wrong fittings :(
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psd0f8e7a6.jpg

i also made a line to go from the fuel pump to the fuel line and next week i will make the hard line AN fittings and run the line from the hard line to the fuel pump
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps3fa32e68.jpg

SS Shaun 05-25-2013 12:43 AM
