They wired my mom's house so that if a wall outlet GFI pops in the garage. The heat in the house don't work. Refrigerator and the kitchen same thing off of a wall outlet GFI in a hallway. Not marked on any building wiring diagram. You just have to know about it. It is only on the electricians master drawing.
I may be wrong but isn't the breaker panel where that should be happening?

People go to college get a degree and still are dumber than a stump. Engineers do the dumbest stuff.

Ms Grumpy 11-24-2014 09:30 PM

I feel your pain. If we pop the breaker for the garage I lose the power to a couple outlets in my kitchen. It has always been that way since we bought the house many years ago. My sister is an electrician and she said if it ain't broke, don't fix it cause it may be opening a big can of worms and out wallet to pay someone to fix it.

shadowgray396 01-25-2015 07:51 PM

Almost have a third room finished on the house. Finally will have a place to sleep, one more coat of mud on the seams and I can do a light sand and primer, and it has heat in it.

Looking good Ray!

flash 01-26-2015 06:22 AM

Ray ,youre getting there ,looks good .

Quadracer392 01-26-2015 07:18 AM

Looks good Ray! That and hanging the drywall one of the few things we contracted out when we built our house.

shadowgray396 02-17-2015 02:12 PM

Finally made it back down to the house on Sunday. Spent the day power washing, mowing the grass and finished the drywall taping and got it primered. Spent the night and started puting down the sub floor in the laundary room. My buddy moved right in before I did. lol. Next is gettting gas into the house to get hot water working and gas fireplace installed. Moving to the living room next.

FlintTony 07-05-2015 04:40 AM

You should be very proud of all you have done there .

shadowgray396 08-29-2015 09:27 PM

Down putting new sub floor in the bedroom. Building two pony walls to hold the upstairs floor joists so I can drop a bearing wall next weekend when I put up a 260 lb steel beam in. After that finish leveling the floors in the kitchen and living room and rip out the old floor and put in the new sub floor. Onto finishing the wiring for the rest of the house and insulate before winter gets here. Not sure what to do in my spare time.

First time I've seen the house at night. Just got all the lights working

shadowgray396 09-07-2015 01:24 AM

Loaded up the trailer at 5:30 am Saturday morning and headed for the coast to install a 260lb beam. Also a material lift on board to save the back.
http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=4655

Took about 6 hours to get it in place with the help from my son and a friend. Glad we had a material lift to help hold it in place to line up all the floor joist hangers.

Wife using a table to see how big of an island she wants now that the bearing wall is gone. Still have more floor to tear up and finish leveling the floors.

I bet your neighbors there love you with the new look of that place ,brought the property values way up ,you have turned that into a beautiful place.

shadowgray396 09-07-2015 01:13 PM

Wish the neighbors would fix theirs up. Most are rentals around us and don't do much to them. The one next door to us is for sale, but for what he is asking (way to much) it's going to need the same thing done to it as ours did. This build has way surpassed what I put into the car.

Guess I can build a elcamino or something done the road. Better thought a boat to go in the garage at the beach house so I can go fishing and crabbing.

FlintTony 09-08-2015 05:00 AM

The place is looking great Ray.

shadowgray396 01-11-2016 02:33 PM

Frame off project continues. Took out all the 1947 floors and now down to the original sub floor. Now its time to level and build the floor over the concrete floor over to the front door. Looks different now that all the inside walls are down and opened up. French doors are in, can now heat a room to sleep in. Gas line gets installed in about 2 weeks. Hot shower will be nice.

Wife cleaning the floor

Looking toward the kitchen and laundry room, with the wall now gone.
http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=4776
Front room area, need to extend the floors toward the front door. Old wood floor is where the house used to end.

Ray ,it's looking good .

shadowgray396 02-15-2016 01:46 PM

Trying my hand at building stairs. Extended the floors and if goes well, might just be ready for sheet rock by June. Only taken 6 years to get to this point. But Im not in debt, paying as I go.

flash 02-15-2016 05:26 PM

Nice work Ray ,especially paying as you go .I did a remodel on my now rental house many years back by doing it the same way .It was slower that way but it was the only way I could do it .

FlintTony 02-15-2016 05:48 PM

Looking good Ray. Are you going to hang the drywall too?

I will hang the drywall, I can tape as well, but I might have a guy come in and do the taping and texture on the ceiling to speed it up at that point.

shadowgray396 02-25-2016 09:05 AM

Wife decided you doesn't like a small bump in the wall behind the front door where the electrical panel is located on the garage side, so I have to build the wall all the way down past the stairs now. It will make the wall about 8" thick, so I get to tear out all the stairs now and rebuild them in the new location. Really?????????? I framed them all in last weekend and put temporary stair treads on them.

flash 02-25-2016 11:19 AM

I just put in for a couple of vacation days as my wife has a few projects planned for me .

shadowgray396 03-05-2016 09:02 PM

Managed to flood the laundry room today after a connection failed hooking up the tankless hot water heater.

Any experts out there on wire a house for cable and internet. Never done it before, or point me in the right direction maybe a youtube video or book.

shadowgray396 11-13-2016 11:23 AM

Took 6 months off on this project. Really havent work much on it since March. To many projects at the home front to deal with this last summer. Got the fireplace installed on friday, finally have real heat in the house- been over 5 years. Been using electric heaters. Still need ceilings sheet rocked to contain the heat, but at least I can keep the house warm to work on it this winter.

Working on the walls where the stailr case goes in. Should be able to prime the walls next weekend and start the stair case build. Still need to cut the floor joists out of the ceiling area to make room for the stairs.

Hank70SS 11-14-2016 07:08 AM

All the work myself, unless I can talk someone to come down and help for a day.

Hank70SS 11-15-2016 07:09 AM

I hate drywall, all the patching and sanding. Your place is going to be pretty nice when you're done.

shadowgray396 01-03-2017 06:25 PM

Spent the last 3 1/2 days on the project. Still trying to get the stairwell and walls up.

Still a ways to go, but moving ahead. Hope to be in sheet rock mode by March.

Happy New year everyone.

Hank70SS 01-04-2017 07:45 AM

Looking good Ray. It's harder to make progress when the place is away from home. Can't do a little each day, have to do as much as you can while you're there. Had that situation when we had a vacation home, always a project waiting for us when we got there.

flash 01-20-2017 11:53 AM

Im going to have to backtrack on this to catch up with you on this project .

shadowgray396 09-05-2017 06:27 PM

All electrical approved, 2 permits finals are done. Kitchen rough in approved, time for insulation and sheet rock. Kitchen cabinets arrive in about 3 weeks.
