Thanks for the offer Ray!! I know my emergency pad is good but I'll have to double check my gas pedal. I will pay ya for it if I need it.

Got the the seat pan welded in tonight and the rest of the floor primered. Depending on if we get hit by the big storm headed east that's supposed to drop about an 1" of ice and 4-9 inches of snow sunday, my uncle is supposed to come over and we are supposed to start replacing the quarter panels. He's has worked in a body shop since he was 15 which is about 40 years ago, so he is going to give me some guidance since I don't really have any idea how to tackle that job.

Pretty happy with how this turned out. Can't hardly tell it was replaced.

Hope the storm misses you Justin. Looks like you have a project to work on if it does.

Been a little while since I've posted anything in here, because the work has been slowed down because of storms, grandparents in the hospital and me getting a stomach bug. Here's a few things I still have been able to get done.
Was able to get started on quarter

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...pskeko7enu.jpg
Got a bad section of the trunk floor cut out while we were in there.

Quadracer392 03-18-2014 10:52 AM

Was also able to get the trans cleaned up some and the motor tore apart and sent to the shop to get it hot tanked and magnafluxed.

So would these heads be OK to use with an edelbrock rpm cam and intake or should I try to find a set of vortec heads? I'd kinda like to raise the compression up some since these are 74cc heads and was thinking maybe putting two eyebrow pistons and .015 head gasket?

That cam is archaic, get yourself a Clay Smith legend series Camshaft. I just helped a friend do a 350 with one of their cams. It greatly exceeded our expectations. His set up is a ZZ4 short block, aftermarket vortec heads (2.02/1.60 valves, 185cc runners, made by ProMaxx) Clay Smith hydraulic roller, comp roller tip rockers, performer rpm air gap, 750 dp holley, 1.75" headers. We were shooting for 425-430. It made 475, and 510 tq. It's going to be a handfull.

Whoa, those are some pretty good numbers. I already have the RPM cam and matching intake, roller rockers and the rest of the valvetrain but I could always sell the cam or use it in something else. Do you know about what they charge for custom grind? If I could to get within a 100 hp/lb.ft of those numbers I would be happy. I'm kinda wanting to go with budget build since I'm going to repower the car in the next couple years

carpoor 03-19-2014 09:46 PM

They have several "shelf grinds" that work well with stock heads. Not sure on the cost off the top of my head. The flat tappet hydraulics should be about half what the hydraulic roller set up was.

Quadracer392 03-27-2014 08:48 PM

Can't really say I've made a whole lot of progress with the car but still trugging along. I'm coming to realization that I'm probably not going to get this thing thing finished before my deadline, but I did pick up a ZZ4 long block with roller cam and vortec heads over the weekend. A guy had it sitting on a shelf for the last several years and never did anything with it. So I was able to pick it up for a really good price. I spoke with Chris at Straub Technology about a cam for the stock vortec heads and he recommended his "squishy" semi-custom grid which sounds really good which is supposed to make around 400 HP with a Performer RPM intake. Video of a motor with that cam. ---> http://youtu.be/kPIqyEfuT5o

Got a little work done on the trunk floor also. Got everything cut out and ready to weld into place.

Quadracer392 04-01-2014 09:24 AM

Got my other my other frame stripped last night, loaded up and off the sandblasters this morning. They said they would have it back to me by the end of the week and for really cheap if ya ask me, sandblast the whole thing and put a coating of epoxy primer for $200.

carpoor 04-01-2014 06:15 PM

Is that a BOP frame? I ask because the cross member reminds me of the one in my father's 72' Lemans.

Thanks! I needed to swap the frames anyway and for the price I couldn't beat it.

Good eye my friend. The frame is from that 72 Olds cutlass I bought for parts. Do you know if that cross member will work for me? I know the chevelles have a more tubular cross member and I didn't think to take measurements or swap them out before I took it.

Quadracer392 04-01-2014 07:28 PM

It was a beautiful day to take a vacation day from work. Got a few things done around the house and got some more work done on the car this afternoon.

Got the new trunk extension put on. Then put patch panel on the inner wheel well and then fitted the outer wheel well.

Ok good. I never even knew those were there till the other day when I was taking pictures of the frame before I loaded it up.

Well got the rear springs and steering shaft sand blasted painted this evening. Then my uncle came down and started fitting the quarter panel. My uncle has been a body man for the last 40 years and said this was one of the most frustrating ones he's done, which really surprised me cause everything I got was from AMD and it's supposed to be a GM restoration part and I expected it to fit better. He said we were gonna give it another try tomorrow evening.

Sorry I post so many pictures but I like to look back at them and see the progress I'm making and maybe it will help someone else going though this also.

Dont be sorry ,we like pictures .

shadowgray396 04-02-2014 09:07 PM

No panels go on without a lot of work, I don't care who sells them. I faith you will get them figured out.

Steering shaft should look like this when you paint it

http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/y...eringShaft.jpg

Quadracer392 04-03-2014 05:18 AM

I know they are a ton of work even if you have factory panels none of them ever fall into place. I guess I just had high expectations for these panels. I'm sure we'll get it figured out too just need more time to massage it in place with a BFH, lol.

I wasn't really going for the factory look on mine but yours looks really good. What did you use to paint the ends of it. Are those pieces supposed to be zinc coated from the factory?

shadowgray396 04-03-2014 07:49 AM

Mine is painted with cast gray paint on the ends. I did take mine completely apart and repack it with grease since it was done over 40 years ago.I also replaced the dryied out rubber boot. If you decided to do that read the instruction on how to do it first. It's not that simple as I found out. I know alot of people just paint them all black, but for me they just don't make the engine compartment look detailed out.

Quadracer392 04-03-2014 08:40 PM

Hey Ray, whatcha think?

I agree with you. I think it will look much better than just the plain black I had it. Now it will offset all the rest of the black that will be under the hood.

There you go. I like it. The little details will make the difference. :ntwrthy:

Quadracer392 04-09-2014 05:25 AM

Well I talked to the sandblasters friday and was supposed to pick up the frame saturday, well they never called. It rained all day Monday so called them a couple time yesterday to make sure someone was gonna be there to pick it up tuesday after work and no one ever answered the phone, well I hauled the trailer out there last night couldn't find anyone around the office, so I walked back into the shop and I can see my frame so I walked over to check it out, bare metal. Still hadn't put the epoxy on it yet, so I'm supposed to go back out there tonight again.

Quadracer392 04-09-2014 10:51 AM

Got the rear end pulled out last night. Going to pressure wash it after I get the frame home this evening.

I wasn't planning on doing anything besides cleaning it up right now, well maybe except for a disc brake swap since I gave my uncle all the drum brake parts for his 41' chevy truck. I want to find a 12 bolt with a posi to put in but I haven't see one for sale around here for a while.

Quadracer392 04-09-2014 09:08 PM

Welp they had it finished today!! Even though it took a few days extra I think they did a really awesome job! They ended up blasting it and spraying the epoxy for $150 cash, which is a really good deal if ya ask me. I got it home on jack stands, scuffed the epoxy with a red scotchbrite made sure to get all the sand out from inside the frame rails and then took a tack cloth to it. Then got the Eastwood Extreme Chassis Black primer sprayed on it, which I'm not sure I really needed to do, but I didn't figure it wouldn't hurt anything to have another coat of paint on it. Tomorrow evening I'll get the top coat on it after work.

A few mods on a 10 bolt and it can be as good or better then 12 bolt.

Well I really want a posi but I've never messed with anything like that before. What else can you do beside better axles or different gears?
