He did and has it in the car and running. Not sure I have seen any pictures with it in there yet?

I would verify base timing. As far as the thermostat, I always drill 2-4 small relief holes in the outer lip.

Here's a detailed explanation on the subject: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355747

What was I thinking?

Went and looked at a 72' Chevelle roller today. Ended up striking a deal and leaving a deposit. Going back with the trailer to get it Saturday.

I bought it for my folks. The past few years they have really been talking about the car they bought new in late 72'. And, between my father and I - we have a ton of extra parts lying around. (Rebuilt 72' 454 air cleaner to pan, TH400, 12 bolts, SS dashes, SS wheels, domed hood, etc.)

We won't get to it right away, but the plan is to build a replica of the car they purchased new. Mulsane Blue, White interior, no stripes, SS 454. The old man isn't getting any younger... so it's now or never.

You do like a challenge dont you ? I have a pretty nice 72 grill if you dont already have one .

carpoor 07-17-2014 09:20 PM

It's a matter of money in this case. (The lack of) it would have been great to start with a more complete and nearly rust free car. I'll have about $700 in this car including the fuel to go get it. Plus, saving another one from the crusher.

The front fenders and core support are trash. The roof is actually really nice and solid. Needs quarters, trunk floor, toe kicks, and a patch behind the driver's seat.

I may take you up on that grille. I have two, both broken in different places. I planned to try and piece the two together.

I need to find two good fenders, and front bumper brackets. Also want to find a column shift, tilt column. There's no column in it, and all I have is a non tilt - floor shift column. We pretty much have everything else as far as trim and hard parts.
