Yup, midwest and east coast I guess. The FEDs have relaxed the restrictions on how many hours the propane delivery drivers can be on the road. Glad we have natural gas, our bill would be more like $400 if it was propane. Maybe more since the shortage has pushed prices up.

Spent most of my day on the road and outside today. The day started out at -2 at 7am when I took the kids to school. It finally hit 1 around 11 am. Then it hit 4 degrees around 3. It was a heat wave. Then at 3:30 the snow started, just enough to make the road a little slippery and bring out the idiots.

Then I find out that my moms pipes were frozen this morning. Why is it that my 77 year old mother does not call any of her 6 children to ask for help ? Instead she decides that posting it on Facebook is the best idea. I didn't find out about it until 10 hrs later, nothing I can do for her now. And it is going to only get colder around here over the next 5 days.

flash 01-22-2014 08:10 PM

Its plenty cold here but nothing like you guys are dealing with ,Im just now getting warm.

Ken Hayes 01-23-2014 06:11 PM

Hey Hank.........more snow comin tomorrow !!! (just thought I'd let ya know) :-)

shadowgray396 01-25-2014 10:47 AM

We are in a fire danger problem now. The coast range has fires going from slash burns that should have gone out long ago with the rains. Winds kicked up and they fired up from months ago when they were started. Looks like some rain next week finally. We are 10 to 15" below normal for rain. Sunny and 52 today is the forecast.

Ms Grumpy 01-25-2014 06:20 PM

Ray is your property in danger ? I know that you would love the snow, in the form of rain, that we have now. We are a couple inches above the record for the month of January. But we could use it too. The great lakes are far below their normal level.

Ms Grumpy 01-25-2014 06:23 PM

We had a heat wave today. I think it hit 22 degrees, but we got a couple more inches of snow. More snow expected tonight, and then the temps are supposed to drop again going into Monday.

Here in Michigan the schools allow for 5 snow days. We have used them all in the month of January. But with temps expecting to dip to -8 on Tuesday and Wednesday I think that we might be using a couple more.

No fire danger where I'm at, but is dry. I'm guessing we will have brown lawns this summer. Won't be allowed to water if the rains don't return and fill up our water source.

carpoor 01-25-2014 09:15 PM

Haven't really had a warm day this week. Cold and windy mostly. Three mornings in a row we started off in the upper 20s to low 30s. It's hard to get out of a warm bed and go to work knowing you will be working outside for 10-12 hours. Every day I pray for "windshield time."

Hank70SS 01-26-2014 07:09 AM

I'm getting tired of pushing snow around. We got a couple inches Friday night, Saturday morning. Now it's snowing again. Yesterday's snow broke the record for January snowfall.

I think they only closed schools one day here. They were already closed for the holiday when we got the big snow and Brighton schools were closed last Monday for records day or they may have closed due to the cold. This week we're supposed to have 3 days of below 0 temps so they may close. They close when wind chills near -20.

Ms Grumpy 01-26-2014 05:53 PM

Hank, last Friday when they closed the schools, it was Mid terms for my 2 in High School. So they have changed Mondays schedule for the kids to take their Mid Terms. The state of Michigan allows for 5 snow days and we have already used them this month alone. I live in a school district where there are no busses, so I have been taking my kids to school. I am hoping that Tuesday and Wednesday they cancel school cause it is too damn cold to take them. My brother in law lives just outside of Chicago and they have already cancelled school for Monday and Tuesday for his kids.

flash 01-26-2014 06:54 PM

We had a sunny and breezy day today with a high of low 50's ,it was nice to be above freezing .

Hank70SS 01-27-2014 09:28 AM

Guess I missed the weather forecast yesterday. Our son plowed the driveway yesterday afternoon after the snow stopped. He also did the neighbors, they're an elderly couple and are away for a couple of days.

I take the dog out this morning and WTH, another 3-4". So I have to go do it again, it's around 5* now and only supposed to get colder. Maybe I'll just throw some shit in the motorhome and head out of town. We're supposed to leave in a little over 2 weeks, can't wait. It's been so cold and so much snow I still have lot of stuff to put in the outside compartments. Can't load the inside with anything that will freeze. I'll have to hook up the car for towing, if it doesn't warm up maybe I'll have Lynda follow me and hook it when we get to warm weather. This weather is getting really old.

Oh, and I have to go pull the starting battery out of the motorhome. It's shot and I have to get a new one. I can start it off the house batteries, 2 6v golf cart batteries, but I don't want to burn up the alt trying to charge a dead battery.

Ken Hayes 01-27-2014 10:06 AM

I think we got just under 36" so far for January with 4 more days to go........oh well, goin outside and fire up the 2 stage blower and have some fun......."YEAH, RIGHT!!!"

flash 01-27-2014 11:09 AM

I could not handle that crap ,Im sorry for you guys up there .

Hank70SS 01-27-2014 04:28 PM

Well that was fun! Started plowing the drive this morning, finished around 4:45. I wasn't done with ours but was down at the street and decided to go over and do the neighbors, they're still not home. They're in their 70's, he had polio as a kid so it's hard for him to get around. Anyway while finishing their drive I noticed the blade wasn't coming up evenly or very high. Took a look and the mount was tearing loose. Previous owner adapted an Ariens plow blade to fit the Bolens tractor.

The top of bracket off the plow ripped and was rolling over. Guess we pushed too many piles of snow, piles that are now mostly ice inside. So I pulled the blade off the tractor, got out the cutoff wheel, cut off the home made piece, cut off the metal that had split and rolled, too thick to try and straighten. Then weld a plate on to put the 2 pieces back together. Then I got to finish plowing our drive.

The bracket off the blade is flat on top with the sides folded down. When the PO welded the home made bracket on he only welded to the top. I didn't have time today to cut and weld pieces to the sides, sounds like a summer time project.

carpoor 01-27-2014 05:02 PM

Rain this morning, almost 80* and sunny most of the day after the skies cleared.

Hank70SS 01-27-2014 05:59 PM

You guys in the southern states watch out. They're talking about 1/2 -1" of ice tomorrow in the Fl panhandle, Georgia, Alabama, etc. Lot's of snow north of there.

Here, -9 tonight. Saw the list of school closings on the news, looks like every school in the state will be closed.

flash 01-27-2014 06:18 PM

Tomorrow evening will be nuts here with the weather fools predicting everything to stay south of us ,I hope they are right for once but I will believe it when it happens.

My flight tomorrow night from Atlanta to JFK has already been canceled...so no trip to Dublin AGAIN this week due to weather. :(

Ms Grumpy 01-28-2014 05:33 AM

Woke up to -8 degrees, with the wind chill the "real feel temperature" is -21 degrees.

Brrrrrrrrr......

shadowgray396 01-28-2014 07:38 AM

Can't believe how cold it has been back there. Brrrrrrrrrrr

Hank70SS 01-28-2014 07:54 AM

About -13 here, just took the dog out a minute ago. It's sunny and you can see ice crystals floating in the air.

Not sure what it's called, they showed a picture on the news the other day. There are 2 columns of light, each side of the sun. They extend from the horizon to about the height of the sun. They're red on the side closest to the sun and fade to white going away from the sun. They're behind the trees right now so I can't get a clear picture. If they move maybe I can get one later. The pic they showed was from Russia, it's the sunlight hitting the ice crystals, almost liek a rainbow. Kinda neat looking.

This was taken at 9:30 this morning off the front poarch. It was -9* wind chill at -29*

Hey John, ya want some of this crap......I can send ya a couple of truck loads.....remember....I got your address........LOL.

flash 01-28-2014 02:43 PM

Ken ,we have enough here now ,PLEASE DONT send more .They released us from work at 11:00 this morning and it was too late ,the roads were already impassable .I left my truck 1 mile from work and walked the other 6 miles home .It has not stopped snowing since it started and the GDOT did not even get started up here til way too late as they thought it was going below us .I finally got home at 2:30 PM and built a fire ,my wife is still not home yet ,my brother in law picked her up but the roads are so bad they cant get home. The school system has routed all homebound buses to the nearest school as most roads are not passable and the kids will have to spend the night at school. This one caught everyone off guard ,did I mention I HATE SNOW AND ITS 17 DEGREES OUT THERE .

BillsCamino 01-28-2014 03:35 PM

Just have to make it until Saturday & Sunday...forecast is a high of 65.

Ken Hayes 01-28-2014 04:17 PM

John, your just north of Atlanta arent ya? Just watchin the weather channel on TV sayin you guys got about 1 1/2" on the ground and could get 3"-5" before its done.

Thanksgiving day in 1969 I was stationed in the Army in Lockport, NY. (between Niagra Falls and Buffalo) It was my turn to be switchboard operator and duty driver. We got 32" of snow in 24 hrs. I got a call to go pick up some guys from the airport near Buffalo...so I put the chains on the van and went out to get the guys......it was an exciting ride to say the least but I got it done. The next day I had to drive a duce and a half with a custom made 12' blade on it to plow the roads around all the officers quarters. I ended up doing a shift from 6:00am Thanksgiving day untill 10:30pm the following night.

BillsCamino 01-28-2014 05:20 PM

Never knew of an Army base in Lockport...I grew up in that region.

Ha! You don't even have any snow there, come on out here if you want to see snow. I went to the bank, drugstore, supermarket, meat market and Costco today. The parking lots are getting real small with all the snow piles. Costco had 15' piles along the end of their lot.

Your car must have been sitting in the sun Ric 'cause it was colder than that this morning. The sun did make it look a lot better out there than it was.

[QUOTE=flash;50886...This one caught everyone off guard ,did I mention I HATE SNOW AND ITS 17 DEGREES OUT THERE .[/QUOTE]

What? It was all over the news last night that you guys were going to get nailed.

Ms Grumpy 01-28-2014 05:40 PM

I agree Hank. I like driving past the parking lots that have the front loaders clearing snow. Then they lift them up onto a pile that is huge !

I can't wait until later this week, hopefully our temps will get out of the negatives and into double digits......above zero. lol

Went out to start my van in -21 degree temps at 6:30am this morning. She was not happy and turned over a little slow. Got home at 5:50pm and the temperature was 6 degrees.....heat wave.....

Ken Hayes 01-28-2014 05:54 PM

Bill, I was right off of Upper Mountain Road near Sanborn. In the middle of a corn field under ground.....Nike / Herc missle site.

I know exactly where that is. Just outside of the Indian Reservation between Lewiston and Cambria.
Lockport is actually due east. My paternal grand parents lived there for years and are both buried in Lockport.
My sister lives right around the corner in Bergholtz. One of my brothers lives in the Town of Lockport as does his construction company.
Spent many Sundays at the Niagara Dragstrip...behind the old Niagara Falls AFB/Bell helicopter complex.
T-giving '69...I was a senior in HS. ;)
Cool!!
