i finally got the trans in place with the trans mount and the trans brace in place! so happy :)
|
I didn't do anything, but I did say a prayer that the 40+mph winds don't blow any branches from my weeping willow onto the garage. Keeping my fingers crossed.
|
Found a 4-door last night that appears in decent shape.
Trying to convince myself out of buying it and putting in an LS motor and a 6 speed and turning it into my daily driver.... Or an auto and making it Lindsay's "project" car. |
Cool...a 4dr!! What year?
If you need any help I've owned a few. ;) Are you sure Lindsay doesn't want a wagon? I know where there's one available. :D |
Quote:
I saw the wagon and had a moment where I debated it. Unfortunately she absolutely can't stand wagons and I really don't know why. I keep joking that I am going to bring one home and every time I get the same "why on earth would you want to own such an ugly car" response. Now an El Camino she would have all day long! Not sure what she will think about a 4 door 72. |
I think 4 doors are cool but I drool over wagons ,Bill you need to sell that one quickly .
|
Looks like I am going to have to pass on the 4-door. Lindsay pointed out the obvious issue of not having enough space at this house as it is. If I had the garage space I would have gone to look at it and towed it home.
Good looking car in photos and super cheap if anyone is interested. Haven't gone to see it but contemplated buying it to flip. Guy was only asking $2k. Not sure what is wrong with the motor. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1351685496 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1351685473 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1351685478 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1351685505 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1351685511 |
Not bad...wish I had the room. Damn, I need to get rid of the wagon...
Wonder how difficult it would be to convert the firewall back to A/C? At least needs a blower fan housing. Is this local Eric? |
I was asking myself the same thing with the A/C.
Car is in Augusta. Listed on CL along with a motorcycle but guy said he would split them and sell separately. Edit: Here is the link http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/3372976989.html |
Wow ,that looks like a deal and I would be DEAD .
|
Oh come on John, you need another 72 to add to the collection!
|
Yeah John...come get my truck and trailer and go for it!! Both are sitting out back by my shop and I think the keys are even in the truck...
|
Bill and Eric ,I just read all this thread to Joan and she is not amused .By the way she likes the 4 door Chevelle but says we have enough toys to play with and I know she is right which is why I gave the 55 away so cheap.
Bill ,go ahead and make the deal with the guy on the Chevelle and I will come get your truck and trailer and go fetch it for you . |
Thanks for the "offer" John but no thanks. I really need to get rid of the wagon to make some room...
|
Well, today was the day. I officially put my car into a storage facility. If anyone were to break in, mine would probably be one of the last ones stolen. I had to drive through 6 doorways to get to the room where mine would be stored. Some of these I don't know how I managed to squeeze through them. The last set of doorways had me cut the wheel as tight as I could one way, then cut it back the other way as tight as I could, just to make it through.
It is a weird feeling knowing that my baby will not be in my garage. But then again, she will have a nice warm slumber for the winter. As I was leaving, Brian (manages the facility) said see you around the 1st of May. I turned to him and said, as soon as the weather breaks you will be hearing from me. Then David told him, don't be surprised if she calls you in March. We will see, for now I just have to get used to the fact that my garage is empty. I guess I can park my little car in there for the winter, and still have plenty of room. |
I'm putting a new rear bumper on my 71 Chevelle. Hoping to get the new brackets today. I decided to replace them also. The bolts connecting the bumper to the brackets were rusted so bad. I've only been able to get one apart so far. Hope I can get the others apart, otherwise not sure how I'm going to get the taillight housing out of the brackets. Does anyone know where I can get taillight housings for a 71 Chevelle? Doesn't look like anyone is reproducing them and I've only found a couple of single ones on the internet. Thanks.

Post a want to buy add as someone is sure to have some around ,might check out James Hinshaw at Hinshaw Chevelle Parts in Elon ,North Carolina as he has new and used parts and is a wealth of knowlege on these cars.

I mocked up the desired ride height today
|
Heavy Chevy. If you run out of options, let me know. I could probably make you a set.
Cort, ...That wagon is gonna be wicked cool. I really like it! |

Earthquake68, thanks for the offer but mine weren't as bad as I thought. One of them had one of the legs broken off but I was able to clean it up and glue it back together. Luckily I was able to order the plastic retainers that the legs fit into, since a couple of mine were broken.
|
I got the deck lid back on the car and the filler panel adjusted so the gap is nice around the trunk.
|
I'm waiting until the election is over before I do anything else.

Why wait? The election shouldn't matter what kind of car you build. If it does, then our country is in serious trouble! Just be smart about parts you buy. Buy used, swap meet finds, materials for larger projects that are labor intensive, (such as sheet metal or body filler) and just pick away at it. With the wheeling and dealing I've done for my Chevelle, I only have about $5K invested so far. (including purchase price) I think I can finish it the way I want to for another $1,500 if I play my cards right.

Well, it helps I fabricate all my sheet metal parts. A 4'X8' sheet of 18 gauge sheet metal is $40. I made all the patches I needed with half a sheet. A gallon of filler was given to me by a friend. So I have less than $150 in ALL of the body and metal work.
Rockauto.com has screamin' deals on parts, too. Name brand stuff for 1/3 the cost of the Chinese stuff you get at O'Reily's. |
Hey,my line sounds good when you are too lazy to do anything.:p
|
I am making less money, and the cost to build what I want is around $15k - $20k - even doing most of the work myself. Have you priced L72 parts and an M22 lately? I just don't see things going in the right direction any time soon. I am getting rid of all my parts and downsizing. I need to be preparing for the worst instead of building more cars.

Carpoor. I sure know what you mean. If I wasn't really crafty sometimes, I'd still be looking at an engineless car. Customers bring me parts vehicles for their projects and then I get to dispose of the carcasses. I sell the parts off I don't need for their vehicle and scrap the rest. It offsets the cost of the customer's project and sometimes I can do quite well with parts sales. Anything I can possibly think of to generate car money out of nothing. Scrapping broken parts from customer's cars is another way. Some yards don't want a core charge, so I just scrap the pieces. After a couple months, I can make a good bit at the recycle yard.
|
My brother got another '72 to work on, in his shop today. He is better prepared for this one after working on mine. I guess mine was a learning experience, especially with me being so picky. lol
|
Round 2.... Or is this 3?
Either way. Motor came back today and is going together very fast. Should actually be racing this weekend assuming we hit no snags along the way. I hate sitting here at work while others are working on my stuff. I want to be there getting my hands dirty! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/IMG_3752.jpg |
Not the best, but a photo of the car with my new Billet Specialties. These will likely come off except for trips to the track.
That huge chunk of iron will drop the front a bit and make it look a little better http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1352922368 |
White boys work fast!
At this rate the car will be finished by the time I get off work! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1352923075 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1352922930 |
Definitely will have fire in the hole tomorrow!

Looking good ,glad to see it going back together again.
