Sorry to bring up an old thread. The car pictured is mine.
1970Turtle, I live in the Greenville area but have had the car at a show in Charleston. The emblem on the front is similar to the Pontiac spear but it is a little different. It has the Canadian maple leafs above the spear.
The Beaumonts are not Pontiacs. There is nothing in the owners manuals, sales brochures or any other GM released literature that mentions Pontiac. Also, the VIN on Chevys starts with a 1, Pontiacs starts with a 2 but the Beaumonts starts with a 7. Most Beaumonts were sold in Canada but a few went to other countries. I'm not sure bout other years and models but there were 702 1968 SD396s built with 680 being sold in Canada. They could not be sold in the US.

I think that John talks to so many people and maybe the heat got to him.

So James, who actually produced your car ? Is is GM in Canada ?

The cars were built by GM of Canada on the same assembly line as the Chevelles. They started out in 1962 as Acadian Beaumonts based on the Novas. When the Chevelles came out in 1964 the Nova based cars became Acadian Cansos or Invaders and the Chevelle based cars were Acadain Beaumonts. In 1966 the Acadian part of name was dropped from the Beaumonts but was still used on the Nova based cars until 1971. Not all SDs, Sport Deluxe, were big block cars. In 1966 and the first part of the 1967 production year the SD package was an appearance package and had small blocks as standard equipment. About half way through the 1967 production year it became a performance package with the 396 as standard equipment. There were no 396/375 hp Beaumonts built. There were less than 2000 big block Beaumonts built. There were only a little over 74,000 Beaumonts built from 1962 to 1969. It is generally accepted that about 10% to 15% of the Beaumonts are still around.

Those of you who have never seen Jame's Beaumont in person ,you really need to .That is a very impressive car and it sounds very mean. Its also the first Beaumont I ever saw in person and I'm always willing to listen to James to learn more about them. They are very unique and very cool cars ,there were more of them together at the NOCC show this year than Ive ever seen before. As far as what they are officially called ,I call them a Canadian version of the Chevelle even though they are a stand alone car called a Beaumont.
