thats small block big block doent have that i thought

Has a fuel pump there it has it. Newer electric fuel pump trucks may not. But same applies to the small block 6's and 4's. Once they had a factory electric. They rough cast it but never bored the hole to fit the rod.

Push rod must have a mushroomed end. What style cam is in the engine? HR, flat tappet?

SS Shaun 11-04-2014 09:13 PM

Flat tappet, i got it out finally

so it looks like the bronze tip mushroomed and collapsed so i guess i know now i need a new push rod :)

Look for the 7/16" missing from that rod. You should get this one from Summit, Carter PR-1 - Carter Mechanical Fuel Pump Pushrods # CTR-PR-1 $11.97 this one is chrome moly with no bronze tips.

BillsCamino 11-05-2014 06:32 AM

No bronze tip pushrod needed on a flat tappet cam!! I hope it didn't eat up the lobe.

Next question is...where is all that metal that's missing from the pushrod??

SS Shaun 11-05-2014 09:34 AM

i was wondering the same thing about where is all the bronze then i looked at the push rod some more it literally looks like the bronze was smashed in the push rod. If not it must of broke apart while it was running. I drained the oil and ran it in a strainer. I found some small parts of bronze like metal but i was not sure about it. I put new oil in it and i have normal oil pressure. I don't know what else to do as far as all the extra metal.

Ken Hayes 11-05-2014 10:35 AM

Shaun, is that pushrod hollow? If so, seein your not gonna use it again, cut it and see if you can push the bronze piece out of it. 7/16" of metal is a lot to lose. I know those bronze ends are not that long.

SS Shaun 11-05-2014 09:47 PM

Ken you called it bro. I cut it and there it was a nice big thick piece of bronze stuffed in it
