Hrmm... I seem to remember some of those short pump pulleys having thin spacers behind them.

Here you go John, seat is in and a/c is hooked up. Next up, get it in the garage and fix the ride height.
|
Wow ,that looks great ,I picked up another one today ,my 72 is still not home though .

At long last, we've got wheels!
|
Those look good but the old ones did too .Someday Im going to get to enjoy my truck ,I hope.
|
Looking good
|
That is going to look really good on there.
|
The only thing wrong with the current wheels is that they are reversed to the inside too much. (4.5" back space) I was trying desperately to get wheels with a 2" - 2.5" back space. But, those are made of unobtainium. These have a 3.5 back space, it should help a decent amount. Going to run small, 3/16" spacers on the rear to even things out better.
I still have to pull the rear out to flip the perches to the top of the axle tubes. That will fix the ride height. |

Cannot wait to put these on.
|
Cant wait to see them on the truck.

Truck is in the workshop now, I got the rear axle out in a little over an hour today. I'll change out the bent axles and fabricate new shackle mounts this week.
|
Wow ,I bet that was fun. I went up to the bodyshop on friday to put the tag on my truck to let it know I have not given up .
|
It was a fairly easy job, being that everything is new/rebuilt and clean. I picked up the steel for the new mounts today on my way into work, damn swing shifts again. I'll get it all wrapped up and back together this weekend.
The it's down to: front end alignment, and a dyno tune. |

And... even though it was a small change, it is going to lead to a lot of re-engineering. :(

Ah yes... more nonsense. :grumpy:
Got the truck back on the ground today. The ride height is fixed, the axle is in the correct spot on the leaf springs. But, required a 2" longer driveshaft and new traction bars to be fabbed. Now the wheels are not centered in the rear wheel wells. I'll be moving the bed back over an inch next. He never liked how close the bed was to the cab. But, I wish we would have addressed these things before it was painted. The old man is getting extremely impatient in his golden years. (Creating lots of extra work and headaches for me) |
I have to agree with him that it will look better with wheels centered ,truck looks good.
|
It definitely needs to be done, I just wish that these issues were addressed during the build. One other issue I forgot, the cross member that the fuel tank straps connect to hits the rear differential cover. I'm going to have to notch it quite a bit.

Installed rear emergency brake cables and the 15" wheels and tires today. I am going to work on getting the bed moved back next week.
|
Looks good ,love the color .

Had a very productive morning. The shackles were in a bind after all of the changes last year. Got those relocated and the bed off. Just need to move the bed mounts back about 1.5-1.75 inches and put the bed back on. That will happen Monday.

Much better.

Looks good .

I installed the larger fuel injectors and a fresh set of spark plugs today. Should be going on the chassis dyno for a full tune in about a week or two.
|
After many delays, it is finally getting tuned tomorrow morning. I will post pictures and dyno results when it is all said and done. I am hoping for at least 370 at the tires.

Well, things didn't go as planned. :( It has a miss, and something is up with the #7 cylinder. I need to do a compression and leak down test. My father is devastated and wants to get rid of the truck.
|
I hope he changes his mind ,stuff happens all the time .
|
Right now, he is really upset. I am going to keep him busy with other things in the meantime.

I took a little time today to pop the valve cover and look for any broken valve springs. Everything looks good. I was suspicious of the plug wire, changed that wire. No real change, still flutters at idle. Next is a compression test, and I want to move the injector from that cylinder to another to see if the miss follows it.
It's tucked away in the garage for now. |
Spent more time on it yesterday. I started by swapping the injectors for the #1 and #7 cylinders. Sure enough, the miss moved to the #1 cylinder. I got the engine up to temp and the #1 header tube was over 200 degrees cooler than the other seven cylinders. (Verified with an infrared gun, great tool)
New injector is on the way, should fix that problem. |
Got the injector swapped in, and installed two fresh plugs in #1 & #7. It's running much better. All I can say is - this thing is going to wear out back tires at an alarming rate.
It seems that I have traded one problem for another. None of the lights are working. Might be a ground wire that we forgot to reconnect when the bed was off. Going to stick it on the lift Tuesday and start tracing wires. |
Blinkers and horn are working, still no head lights or stop lights. Going to check the headlight switch and stoplight switch next. My parents have been sick for over a week, flu? I have been avoiding them to stay cold free.
|
Well, sad day... but I saw it coming. I am towing the truck down to a shop to be sold on consignment. 😞
|
Sorry to hear but someone will get a Cool truck .Cant keep them all but I sure do try .
|
I dropped the 72' LeMans off today, going to get rid of both.
On the bright side, it will allow me to focus on their 72' Malibu. I still need to finish assembly of the LQ4 for the car. |
I really need to thin the herd but just cant do it yet.
|
Well, all the kinks have been worked out. Everything is working, AC charged, etc.
Price is $25K, or relatively close to it. More and more every day my father is less interested in the hobby. I feel bad, but can't say that i didn't see it coming. |
flash you are going to get rid of one of your trucks ???
|
I bought 2 ,sold 3 ,still have Chuck's old Indy Pace Truck for sale ,just today bought 3 parts trucks (69 ,70 ,and 71 )and 8 years worth of parts to go with them .We are keeping a few parts and selling the rest .It took all day today to haul what we could and will go back later for the rest after I buy the trailer we used today. The owner wont sell it to me until he gets moved next month .Dang nice trailer though for cheap .Im also going to sell Joan's 81 Trans Am eventually ,when I get it running and back together .
|
John, I made the mistake of mentioning that you had an ElCamino...
My father instantly said - see if he wants to trade for my 67' C10. |
Sorry ,but no ,the El Camino is staying with Joan's Chevelle and my Orange 72 Truck .Those three I never plan to sell .
