Got the topcoat on the frame tonight and got the rear end all cleaned up, primed and painted. With what I started out with I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Eaton-Makes a clutch Posi Unit -Heavy Duty Differential GM 8.2" 10-Bolt Chevy Posi Unit - 28 Spline - Posi Traction. Plus the gears and axles and you are set. Should handle any horsepower you have.

Frame and rearend look great.

carpoor 04-10-2014 09:33 PM

A support cover.

I used the Eaton pro-series posi, Richmond gears and bearings and a C Clip eliminator kit.

We've shutdown the plant I work at till the end of May to fix, repair, and replace a whole bunch of things so I don't figure much work will get done on the car since I'll be working 16 hour days for the next three weeks, then 12's after that till we start back up.

I had a very busy weekend getting things done around the house but didn't get a whole lot done with the car. Sunday evening I was able to get the the axle under the car and the A-arms, shocks, brakes, rotors, and tires. Here's what I got done last night.

After checking some things out. I think I'm going to just keep the 10 bolt and use the money I would spend on a 12 bolt and upgrade the 10 bolt later on down the road. I'll probably put a eaton posi unit in it with 3.55 gears and c-clip eliminator kit and a nice support cover to finish it off.

That looks really good .

Well I didn't get the car finished in time for the wedding, which was a long shot considering the time frame I had and the amount of work that had to be done. But the wedding did turned out great and we were able to use my uncles truck. As soon as I get back I'm going to get back to work on the car because we both would like to be able to drive it and do a couple small cruise-in's by the end of the summer. Here's a couple of pictures from the wedding and my uncles truck.

Ken Hayes 06-11-2014 08:54 PM

Sharp truck....but a sharper lookin couple.

shadowgray396 06-11-2014 10:13 PM

Congrats on the wedding. The black and white photo is a great touch with the era of the truck. Very nice looking couple.

Frame looks great.

Thanks for the complements!!

For a little while now I've been looking for someone to either rebuild the TH350 that came in the car or maybe use a different one and it's slowed the process down on the car because I want to put the body on the new frame before we finish welding the quarters and rocker panel on so it's not out of alignment and I don't want to put the body on until the motor, trans, and exhaust is all in/on. Well tonight I ran across a 700R4 that was in a guy I know wifes 68 firebird that he had just finish building for her and the car shifted to hard for her liking so he swaped it out for a stock 350. The trans was just rebuilt with a TCI shift kit, new torque converter, lock-up kit and I got to ride in the car so I know it works well. He wanted it out of his way in the garage and said to come get it for $200!!! I told him I'd be there ASAP!!! So hopefully this week I can get started on putting that stuff in. :D

Down shift cable.?

carpoor 06-28-2014 12:00 PM

Yup, TV cable. (TV = Throttle Valve)

Quadracer392 06-29-2014 08:43 PM

Thanks! That's what I was thinking it was but I wasn't sure.

I got the motor mounts bolted to my new frame today, which by the way was a pain in the @$$ with the control arms bolted in place. I'm going to try to get the motor and trans put in this week and start getting the exhaust put on. A buddy of mine gave me a set of headers he wasn't using. It has the 3 bolt flange on the collector and I know those are prone to leaking. I'm thinking about changing it to the "ball and socket" type of flange. Has anyone used this type? Are they as leakproof as they claim?

Here's what I'm talking about:

Amen to that, I made the mistake putting my control arms on first on the first frame I built. I used every swivel, extensoin, wrench, socket I could find to get them installed.

carpoor 06-30-2014 02:27 PM

The ball and socket are nice. But, I haven't had much issue with the 3 bolt flange - so long as the flanges are bent up and mangled from being over tightened.

Quadracer392 07-07-2014 07:54 AM

Well I ended up ordering the ball and socket flange, should be first of this week. Last night I finally got the front brake lines mounted and the motor and transmission sitting in between the frame rails.

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psxqfrduah.jpg

Tried to get the sway bar mounted too and had a heck of time getting the bushing to bolt up. After about 10 minutes fighting it because it wouldn't line up. I got one bolt in each bushing and looked at the ends of it and sure enough the bar is bent. I was wanting front and rear UMI sway bars anyway, so I guess this gives me a reason to buy em :)

Look how close one side is to the frame than the other.

SS Shaun 07-07-2014 08:39 AM

looks great man

Hank70SS 07-07-2014 05:46 PM

That's an awful pretty looking frame. I don't think mine looked that good when it left the factory. Nice work.

shadowgray396 07-07-2014 09:24 PM

May not be bent, sometimes with not all the weight on the front end things do not line up. My frontend looked funny until I finally added all the weight to compress the springs down. Do not torque the arm bolts untill you get all the weight on the frame.

Quadracer392 07-07-2014 09:53 PM

Thanks Shaun and Hank.

Ray, I thought the same thing when I first started trying to get it lined up but the bushings that bolt to the frame won't line up at all. If I put the rear bolt in the front is "toed out" so far I can pull em around to get the other bolt in. After I thought bout it for a few minutes I remembered the other frame had been hit in the front in on the drivers side. So I figured it was bent. Only way to be able to tell if it was would be to measure a good one from end link to end link and compare wouldn't it?

Quadracer392 07-07-2014 09:55 PM

I haven't tightened anything yet. All the control arm bolts are still loose.

shadowgray396 07-07-2014 10:55 PM

If the other frame had got hit then you may be correct about it being bent. Wish I had a stock on to measure for you. Hard to measure on the car.

Found my old stock one, I get around 46 1/4 center of hole to center of hole off my 70.

Quadracer392 07-08-2014 09:19 AM

Well thanks for looking at that. I'll check it out when I get home from work and see what it measures at.

Ken Hayes 07-08-2014 10:39 AM

Quad, try this.
http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/68...dimensions.jpg

Quadracer392 07-14-2014 09:34 PM

Thanks Ken, I measured my frame it's pretty much in line with all those dimensions. I'll need to keep those dimensions handy to see how bad off my other frame is once I get the body swapped over.

Ray, I measured my sway bar and it was exactly what you measured, so I don't know whats going on with it.

I got the exhaust all mocked and fitted now I'm just waiting on the correct rear control arm braces to show up before I weld everything in place. I ended up using the rotella oil and primed everything and it had just under 60 psi. Hopefully by the end of next weekend I can get this thing fired up then I can get the body swapped over and get back to work on finishing the quarters and drivers side rocker.

Here's a pic of the exhaust. So far those ball and socket flanges are sweet! They seem to fit tight and would compensate if there was a little misalignment.

SS Shaun 07-16-2014 09:12 PM

nice work bro!

Quadracer392 07-16-2014 10:39 PM

Thanks!

Well......tonight was a good night. I was able to get a few things done so I could get the motor started tonight!! Pretty happy with the way it sounds. The throttle response is amazing! Its definitely needs some more tuning but that'll have to wait till I can get some coolant, so I can let it run longer, but for now a quick start up. Here's the video.

I agree ,sound great and looks good too.

Quadracer392 07-28-2014 07:22 AM

Been pretty busy lately and haven't been able to get much done but last night I was able to get the rear control arm braces from UMI put on and got the drive shaft that I had shortened last week painted.

The braces fit good, although they are a bit close to the mufflers. I'm going to have to do some adjusting when I start welding up the exhaust to make sure I have enough clearance.
