Nice pictures, Ray! Thanks for sharing.
I just got my roof stripped down to bare metal. Four checked and dead paint jobs were making me really worried about what I was going to find under there. After an 80 grit massage, it turns out the metal is actually pretty good. :D |
Wasn't today, but over the weekend I decided to get the Chevelle out.
Debated racing but decided I didn't want to deal with all the BS that goes into getting the car ready for the track. Plus I just wanted to drive it so I drove the car to work Friday and then went down to Atlanta Motor Speedway for opening night. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1367351031 The place was pretty packed for opening night of Friday Night Drags http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1367351089 Brought home a souvenir http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1367351042 It was something fun to do on a Friday night I suppose. |
Congrats Eric. Waving
Man, haven't been to AMS on Friday night in years... |
Eric, that's great! Congrats!

There were a number of nice cars out for opening night though. If it was much closer I would probably go just to see some racing every Friday night. |
Congrats Eric, Looks like fun.
|
Will be loading the Chevelle onto a trailer and heading south to a car show this weekend. Still need to get the frontend aligned before I make any long trips with it. Weather going to be in the 80's. Warmer then normal for this time of year, but I will take it.

Got the mufflers replaced on my '70 wagon and the pipe joints all welded up nicely yesterday...installed stock Maramont replacement mufflers ordered from Summit...very quiet!!
Had some cheapie turbo mufflers on it that were obnoxious and had to go!! Grand kids like to ride in the rear facing 3rd seat. Waving |
Congrats Eric. Sounds like they need to raise the prices for entrance, gets rid of some of the riff raff. They did that here for a race at a local track, brings out some beautiful cars/serious racers.
Ray, have a great time and safe travels. Did nothing with my car other than check and make sure it was still in the garage. Put a smile on my face to know it is home. :) |
today after work, I got the driver side inner fender installed and some paint put on the crossmember and frame rails.
tomorrow is fire wall cleaning and some paint for that, after work of course |

Today I installed electric fans in place of the Flex-a-lite fixed-mounted flex fan I put on last year. What should have been relatively easy turned into an enormous PITA when things did not clear the water pump nose. Got it all working and temps seem to be holding steady with the A/C on at idle but the ambient temps today were quite low so the verdict is still out.
Regardless of whether this works or not, the flexalite 298 electric fans fit the radiator perfectly and look to be a quality design! I am hoping that this works better than the options I went through last year.... Maybe I just freed up a few more rear wheel horsepower in the process :) The kind of issues I ran into.... http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/null-3-5.jpg |
Decided to seize the day despite the scattered rain showers. Tightened all of the lower control arm bolts, sway bar end links, and upper shocks. I also pulled my starter back out to properly reinstall the heat shield. Got the oil pressure sending unit adapter worked out and installed as well. Lastly, installed the shiny "new" restored horn.
It doesn't sound like much, but it was time consuming. And, I was bouncing back and forth helping my father work on his 67' C10. I am pretty much at the point now where I need to start cleaning and painting all of the acc. drive - pulleys, brackets, etc. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps16a47a19.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps70ba671a.jpg |
Took the Chevelle to a car show on the trailer today. Had to wait over 1.5 hrs just to get in because of the nice weather. Alot of cars were over heating waiting in line. The show had over 500 cars in it, bigger turn out then expected. The only thing I didn't like was the wind came up and started blowing everything all over the cars inside and out. Spent about 2 hours once I got home cleaning up the car.

somewhat productive weekend. engine bay pretty much ready to go a few little things to go yet
http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0f919459.jpg and installed the SFI rated bellhousing for the th400, gave the transbrake a tuneup, new filter and gasket, and a little paint http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...a/IMAG0446.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...ps280f69d3.jpg |
Looking good. Brings back a lot of memories working on my car. I'm so glad I'm past that stage.
|
Cleaned and primered the PS pump, whatever they painted it with had a sticky consistency. (It's a reman unit from NPD) I also painted my PS brackets, and the backside of the PS pulley. Hoping to paint the pump and front of pulley early tomorrow, then assemble everything tomorrow afternoon. I am going down my punch list now trying to see what will make the most sense to do next. I am leaning towards cleaning & painting the rest of the brackets and pulleys, and the same for the Z bar so I can put it all back together and adjust the linkage. I want to hear this thing run by the end of the month! Not sure if it will happen though.

Finished the pump, brackets, and pulley during the week. Installed my water pump and PS pump today. I also cleaned and painted most of the brackets and pulleys. I need to sand blast the crank pulley this week, it is a little crusty in a few spots. Not going to just paint over it and put it on the car like that. I also need to clean and paint the small bracket for the AC compressor that bolts to the exhaust manifold.
Got the carburetor dialed in on the Monte Carlo, required almost nothing in terms of adjustment. I literally took it out of the box and bolted it on. I raised the idle speed 50 rpm so it wouldn't try to stall with the AC on. It ran well before, but it really runs great now. I would recommend Ken @ Everyday Performance to anyone needing Quadrajet rebuild/recalibration work. He doesn't refinish them as exact as Cliff Ruggles, but his turn around time was about one week vs. several months. And the cost was about half. If you have a 1000 point resto - use Cliff. If you have a nice driver that you aren't concerned with points judging, use Ken. I washed the car and took it home with me so I could take a shower and clean up. Had plans to swing by a local car show, I was denied by the rain - on my birthday of all days. All is well, I took the car for a ride in the rain after getting cleaned up and dropped it off at my folks house. I kind of don't want to sell it now, it runs and drives so good. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psd88e9edc.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps69aeca35.jpg |
Had to partially remove my freshly installed PS pump because I didn't pay attention. My car has factory A/C... I'll give you one guess which bracket I forgot to install first.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps7cd8df94.jpg I also cleaned up the driveshaft today. I need to 100% verify what color the three stripes should be. Then go get a few pints of paint during the week. I also got my hood lanyard clips installed today. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psd21c49fc.jpg Spent most of the day over there working on the 67' C10 truck. The front brakes are done, front wheels/tires are on, leaf springs hung, and the rear axle set in place. |
Looks good. You will take thing apart a lot putting the car back together. I took about 2 steps forward and 3 back alot when doing mine.
|
Did nothing with my car but did do some international Chevelle/Ausley's representing across our friendly boarder to the north.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...3/DSC_3246.jpg I have never seen SOOOOO many Starbuck's per square foot! Quite literally, standing on one corner you can see another Starbuck's across the street on the other corner. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...3/DSC_3267.jpg |
Wow Eric!!
We we're in the Buffalo area all weekend. Had lunch on Saturday at a place right on the Niagara River in Tonawanda. Did you drive or fly?? We flew back yesterday afternoon... |
Quote:
|
We flew on 1st flight out on Friday...leaving around 8am...and returned yesterday afternoon on the 1:15pm (which was 1/2 hr late due to ATL weather).
Although I had to return to Hartsfield last night @ 10pm to claim our bags. :( Buffalo weather was awesome all weekend. Your 1st trip to Niagara Falls/Canada? I was born/raised in Tonawanda, NY and still have most family in that area. My brother's daughter was married on Saturday. |

This was our first time to Niagara. Had a great time and agreed, it was a beautiful weekend! We had some time to kill and drove all around Tonawanda before heading to the airport. If it were not for all the snow I would consider living up there! |
We were there last year with the Chevelle caravan ,its a great place to see .
|
After spending the last 4 days in South Carolina, I just had to peek into the garage this morning to make sure my baby was still sitting there. Put a smile on my face after an all night, 13 hour drive.
|
I went out to the shop and made sure they were still where I left them but no time to play .
|
Bought a new set of tires for the Chevelle. Had the old ones unmounted and rims sandblasted. I've got them primed, gray paint on the back and inside. Black in the inserts, just need to mask and spray the silver. I know they make a stencil where you do the silver first then use the stencil and spray the black. Also heard the stencils weren't so good. I actually did a set back in the 70's, masked off the black and spayed the silver last. It worked good then so I thought I'd do it that way again. Fortunately I have a 2nd set of SS wheels and tires to use while I work on these.

Changed plug wires out and put heat boots on ends near headers.

today i made some custom fuel lines, i am very proud of how it came out. I do however have to change the inlet from the fuel line to the carb because they gave me the wrong fittings :(
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...psd0f8e7a6.jpg i also made a line to go from the fuel pump to the fuel line and next week i will make the hard line AN fittings and run the line from the hard line to the fuel pump http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps3fa32e68.jpg Since i can't figure out what fan setup i want my buddy had a fan for sale so i took it home to see if it will fit and if it works and i was happy to see the results http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps94d716e4.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps38ecc2ea.jpg http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps79984023.jpg operation road worthy is still set for aug of this year! lets see if i can do it |
Fan setup looks good, not sure about the cautiion sticker. Lol

Days like today make me feel like I am spinning my wheels. I am diligently trying to figure out where every bolt, nut, washer, clip, etc. goes. I also keep digging through boxes of new parts, only to find that some have been misplaced. (or grown legs) Starter wires are hooked up. Dipstick is installed. Flywheel dust cover is installed. I also spent some time working on my father's truck today.
I'm kind of beat, but considering washing up the Monte in about an hour and heading to a car show. I work the next four days, Sun. - Wed., might not have much time to relax during the week. |

I didnt even get to look at the cars today ,too busy trying to get finished with my pipe project .
|
John...tell me more about the '70 vert you know for sale....;)
|
Ordered a T56 Magnum (and all the other stuff to go along with it - McLeod clutch, hydraulic throw-out, etc.) for mine today.... Finally time for a third pedal!!! :D
I guess the 4L80 will go into the vette. I am planning an LS3 swap for that car right now! I have to make sure I keep one of them driving through the cruise season.... |
The weather sucked most of today, however it is great now. (go figure) That said, I didn't get much done. I picked a spot and stuck that pesky clip on the oil pan rail. Cannot find it in any assembly manuals, but it looks factory and keeps the cable tucked up nice. I also got around to pulling the passenger side valve cover and redoing it. Still need to do the same to the driver's side cover. They are originals, and had some pitting that stuck out like a sore thumb once painted. Today I started by sanding it with 500 dry paper, then gave it a heavy coat of filler primer. Then blocked it with multiple grits before giving it a coat of Chevy Orange. :D
I swear I will finish this car by the end of the year. |
After seeing all that everyone has accomplished in the past week. Wow..do I feel lazy. I have been so caught up in personal stuff that I haven't even thought about my car.
|
Been raining here for the last two weeks, so the chevelle has just been covered up in the garage.
