well, not so much today but lately. brakes are completely done, new master, proportion valve, line lock, lines and hoses and bled already. no leaks made me happy.
new steering is now complete, replaced the gearbox, pitman and rag joint. I need to double check a few things, and make one modification to the trans pan. and then I can install the motor |
oh, and my headers showed up end of last week.

With the front bench out being recovered by the upholstery shop, thought it would be a good chance to give the wagon rubber floor mat (cheapie Greenbrier model/no carpet) a good vacuuming & cleaning.
Did find a 1972 dime and two mid '70s dated pennies...and a blue marble. NO...didn't loose mine. BTW...build sheet was found neatly tucked under the driver side seat springs. |
Congrats on finding the build sheet.
finished my fuel system now on to the exhaust :)
Bill, great find on the build sheet. I had my back seat out with no luck. I haven't checked the front yet.
Well, it's been a few days, but I got my new chrome clips for around my front and back glass, got everything fitted and the glass glued in. I started stripping the hood in preparation for a little body work and made a set of mufflers for the exhaust. I'm just about ready to take it down the road! |
Installed a pair of Monroe Quick struts on the front of my Chevy van today...only took FOUR hours!! :(
Oh the pain....could have swapped engines in the Chevelle in that amount of time. |

I finished fitting the drivers outer wheelhouse piece and welded it in. I also reshaped the drivers trunk drop off, fitted it, and welded it in. I also split the face of the outer rocker replacement and welded it back so that the face of it was the same as stock. The rocker I got was .080 more narrow across the face of it.

Dropped a pair of Sportsman II SBC heads off at my machinist's shop for freshening up and installing a new set of Comp hyd roller springs, retainers, and locks.
Working on building another 383 stroker roller small block engine. For what, I don't know yet... |

Looking Good
Made plans to have new springs put on the front. When they were installed last year we only cut 1/2 a coil off, but they settled A LOT. Bummer. So we start all over, I told grumpy that we are not going to cut them at all, he said that it will probably look funny. So as soon as I have them in I will take a pic and we will see what you guys think.

I went out to the shop to check on the cars today during the downpour but did nothing ,damn Im sick of RAIN.
Thought about it, especially while sitting in traffic driving my van. flash...I hope your weather clears soon.
If I still owned a Chevelle Ibwould most Definately clean its clock

Decided on the oven instead, both manifolds are "cooked." ;) Found the new Harrison decal for the AC box, stuck it where it needed to go. Wasn't feeling very motivated in this heat.
Rainy day, didn't even open the garage.
I went in the shop looking for a few tools and looked at the cars but nothing more.
On top of all my errand running around today with my oldest grand daughter in tow...found the time to pick up the freshly recovered front bench seat for the wagon from the upholstery shop...a task that took almost 2 months from the time the original pattern material order was placed with SMS.
Greenbrier has a completely different vinyl seat pattern than the other '70 Chevelle models. Very pleased... |
Spent all day at my folk's working on my car. It doesn't look like much, but today's progress includes: touched up some spots on the firewall from the engine install, all three ground straps installed, passenger side exhaust manifold installed, spark plugs indexed/gaped/installed on passenger side bank, passenger side valve cover gasketed & bolted down, valve cover to air cleaner gromet installed, driver's side valve cover got some love - wet sanded, filler primered, wet sanded again, and repainted. I went to install the passenger side lead pipe, and realized I didn't have any exhaust doughnuts. It's always something. I also removed the POA valve, and some brackets so I can clean it all up. I used liquid electrical tape to redo the wire guides on the passenger side valve cover this morning. It came out pretty good, won't win any concourse judged shows.

WOW ,that sure looks nice .
Looking very nice. You should be proud of your work.
I finished blocking my left door and going to primor it for the last time before some black paint...
My new T56 Magnum, and all the extras to go along with it, showed up today!
Can't wait to begin this project! |
I adjusted the carb and then went cruising for a couple of hours .
new 4" cowl hood from Harwood showed up yesterday. hopefully test fit it for blower and intake clearance tonight.
Probably bolt in the freshly recovered front seat and go to a local cruise tonight in the wagon. The middle seat was dropped off yesterday to have it also recovered...not ripped or torn but faded and colors now didn't match the front bench. Probably do the third seat next.....:(
Spent most of my morning over at my folks again. Did the liquid electrical tape trick to the driver's side valve cover, bolted it down with a new gasket, PCV gromet installed, driver's side manifold on - had a slight interference with one of the ARP head bolts, required minor clearancing. Passenger side lead pipe on, I built extensions for both lead pipes out of scrap. Temporary, will quiet it down enough to get the car to the alignment shop and exhaust shop. The rest of the spark plugs are gaped, indexed, and installed on the driver's side. Parts store forgot to get me another doughnut for the exhaust, otherwise I would have installed the other lead pipe and extension. I am finally starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel... hopefully it's not a train!
