No worries and no hurry! When we put the car on the lift yesterday and were prodding around under it I mentioned having them just pull everything off as an assembly so it'll be easier to keep up with. If it is the Peachstate show before we see each other, no problem. I'll throw everything in a box and put it all in the basement with all my other parts I seem to have no use for (like the steering column I just removed and don't really know why I should keep). My goal is to not have hidden treasures when I finally move out of this house!

fleming23 02-23-2012 07:35 PM

Motor went in the car tonight. Might have a better video later. Apparently when you text someone a video the quality is significantly reduced.

First just a few teaser shots

Great video ,it wont be long at all now.

SS Shaun 02-23-2012 09:31 PM

congrats man! hope to hear it running soon

shadowgray396 02-24-2012 08:45 AM

Next video will be it running. Looking really good. Congrats.

fleming23 02-25-2012 09:56 PM

Few photos of current progress.

The transmission went in yesterday and the headers & exhaust were put in place today. The Magnaflow 3" exhaust kit fit like dog do-do. The exhaust pipes are too short by about 8 inches so those will have to be modified. If things continue at this pace the front suspension will be done by mid week and this car should be ready by next weekend (or at least on the dyno for tuning by then.)

Car as of first thing this morning
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330134882

Doug's D316 1 7/8" Headers are TIGHT! I don't know how people fit 2" primaries on this car...
Had to clearance the 200-4R to get the passenger side to fit
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330214241
Driver side lower A-arm. Definitely tight!
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330214231

They sit nice and level and tuck up to the floor board real well
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330218453

Super short exhaust tail pipes that will need to be corrected
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330214284

Motor sitting in place and getting ever so close to firing up!

shadowgray396 02-25-2012 10:06 PM

Looking good. One thing I have heard about some headers is being to close to the brake lines and distribution valve on the left side and causing problems. Again great looking job.

Thanks! The distribution block has decent clearance as I did take a look at it today, specifically because I have a new one to put in and wanted to make sure there was adequate room to work. Hopefully there won't be any problems, plus the Ceramic coating should help to some extent.

Looking good ,cant wait to hear the beast running.

fleming23 02-29-2012 07:13 PM

Feeling a little surrounded at the shop today
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330564369

Not done by any means but they anticipate starting the car tomorrow for the first time (sad I'll miss it). Still need some finishing touches under the hood, a new drive shaft, exhaust tail pipes & the entire front suspension is yet to be touched but it is getting close to the point where I can feel it.

flash 02-29-2012 08:38 PM

Its the best looking ride in that pic .

grandsport 02-29-2012 09:27 PM

How did I miss this thread, with my most favoritest color in the whole world? Very stunning car!I really don't know much about all the other things you are doing, but it looks awesome. Funny thing,I noticed AFR on your heads.Instead of saying arf arf,my dog, after sipping some beer with me in the garage, goes afr afr.

flash 03-01-2012 06:29 AM

No wonder your dogs love you ,youre making drunks out of them .LOL .One of my past weiner muts loved beer ,friends had to be careful not to sit one down in front of her as she was such a sot.

fleming23 03-03-2012 04:15 PM

Today there was fire in the hole, albeit for 1.2 seconds... Waiting on a couple fittings to get the fuel line connected to the pump. Regardless, we squirted fuel in the carb and it fired for the first time! Unfortunately the phone does a poor job of capturing sound quality but it sounded nice and deep! Still have quite a few little things to finish up but it was nice to hear the car rumble again!

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1330812640

Fuel pump was quite pricy but she sure is pretty!

Really short video of it firing

Not a whole lot of progress worth posting. Right now there are lots of little things that are being done that really seem minor in the grand scheme of things but are required to get everything going. For example, bending transmission lines, getting all the appropriate fittings for things like the trans cooler & fuel pump. Waiting on the lower alternator bracket to come back from powder coating.

Pulled the old booster & master off today & bolted the new booster in place. Looks much better!

Started the car and checked oil pressure today. Everything looks good! Let the car run for about 1 minute. I thought I had a video but apparently I either didn't press the record button or I accidentally erased it. Tomorrow/Friday work should begin on the suspension. The 1350 Yokes from Denny's Drive shaft will arrive tomorrow as well so hopefully we can get the drive shaft measured and ordered.

Technically the only thing the car needed today to go drive would have been belts, the lower alt. bracket and the drive shaft installed. That'll still be a little bit out but it is that close.

I know! I really can't believe the car didn't sit at an angle. That is a pretty significant difference between driver & passenger side

shadowgray396 03-09-2012 10:21 PM

Big difference on the springs, looks like you will have some stopping power with the front disc set up.

Ray

fleming23 03-17-2012 04:24 PM

Not sure that a lot was done today but I was able to get in the car, start it and drive it from the post lift to the ramp lift on the other side of the shop. I call that progress. The drive shaft came in yesterday and after a 120 mile round trip to Summit racing for a new crush sleeve and seal we had the new 1350 yokes in and the car back on the ground.

Car should go on the dyno Tuesday when the shops opens again to get dialed in! Unfortunately I don't know that I'll be around to get any photos or video but I am super ready!

Here is the video I thought I lost from a few weeks ago with the first firing of the motor! We just got the motor together enough so that we could hear it roar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIcOn...=youtube_gdata

And a few photos from today.
New drive shaft next to the old. New 3.5" with 1350 joints all around

Setting the pinion
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1332019420

All set up again....debated changing gears while we had everything out, but decided it was easiest to stick with the 3.42

flash 03-17-2012 09:02 PM

Good deal ,youre almost there .

carpoor 03-18-2012 04:48 PM

What are you doing with the old driveshaft? Is it a factory shaft for a TH400 68' - 72' Chevelle? If so, will you sell it? I need one for my Monte Carlo. Haven't had much luck finding one locally.

Ms Grumpy 03-18-2012 05:45 PM

Looking real good !

It was a factory shaft from a TH350 so not sure if it is of use to you.

Thanks! I am excited to get it back! We have had some beautiful weather lately!

Have you gotten to drive it on its new maiden voyage yet ?

Not yet. It'll probably be this weekend on the cruise down to Calloway gardens. Hopefully all goes well!

flash 03-19-2012 06:28 AM

Calloway Gardens sounds like a fun time ,hopefully you have no issues.

carpoor 03-19-2012 09:53 AM

Thanks for the reply, I already have a th350 driveshaft. I may end up just having mine shortened and putting a TH400 yoke on it.

fleming23 03-23-2012 12:13 PM

It is Dyno time today!!!

Any predictions?
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1332522658

carpoor 03-23-2012 12:16 PM

I'll say 460-480-ish rear wheel HP. And 30-40 more RWTQ than HP.

shadowgray396 03-23-2012 06:23 PM

Thats one nice looking engine compartment under the hood.

carpoor 03-23-2012 11:16 PM

Well? Inquiring minds want to know!

SS Shaun 03-24-2012 01:17 AM

485 and its in his garage now :)
