Thanks guys!
|
It will be a shame you have to put the body back on and cover up all that pretty paint but I know you must.
|
Yeah, I know, but hopefully the top side will look as good as the bottom side soon
|
It will. Can't wait to see some more pics.

Finally got the stainless fuel line put in this evening and loaded the body of the car on a trailer so I get clean the underside of it. I did so practicing with the welder this past weekend on some spare exhaust I had laying around, stuff I practiced on turned out good so I'm hoping it turns out well. Ran the motor some more this evening but I'm still having issues with the carb or something, it's not wanting to idle. (posted about it in another thread). Here's the welds from this weekend http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psgshuu8d0.jpg Here's the shinny new stainless fuel line. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...g3m3vj6g-1.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...pslqtz8fsv.jpg |
That looks so good ,keep it up.

Got the car running a whole lot better this evening. Used a different carb from a buddy of mine. I've rebuilt mine twice and it still hasn't fixed it, so it looks like I'm going to get another one. What's some suggestions for a good carb for a fairly mild street motor? I've always run edelbrock and it's what I'm used to but open to others like Demon, Holley, Proform, another edelbrock? Thinking I could get by with a 650 or would a 750 be better?
Here's a quick video of it running with just the headers. http://youtu.be/yDaE0V--Dfw |
Sounds good. My frame used to be all pretty like that before I put the body on and did bodywork a while. Now it is a dusty mess.
Carb choice is just that a choice. Get what you like. As for size it depends on how you drive it. If your a animal like me a 750 is better, more top end. But if you drive like a normal person a 650 is better. Less hesitation when you stab the gas, more responsive. That motor would like either one tho. |
I just saw your thread over on T/C so I will follow you on both sites .

I've been working on getting the underneath of the body ready so I can put it on the chassis. The car has a factory? undercoating all over the whole underside and I'd like to get it off but it has been a huge PIA. I'm sure it's what has saved the floor pans from rusting out but it doesn't look good and I'm not planning on driving it inclimate weather so does anyone have a trick to getting this stuff off besides blasting it off? I've use wire wheel on a drill, twisted wire wheel on a grinder and scraping it off. The wire wheels just seem to smear it around. Some of it has flaked off but most of it is stuck like glue. I'm almost to the point of leaving it on there and painting over it since most people won't look under it anyway.

Kerosene on a rag?
|
Got 20 bucks? this is how I did mine. And some elbow grease. The do make a spray to soften it up. Goes on as a foam and once the foam is gone you scrape it off.

I used a hand held torch. The little can uses the camping stove gas type. And a heavy paint scraper. Once the majority is off went to a scotch brite pad on a grinder.

The transmission went out in my dad's car Wednesday and it's not really worth putting a new trans in or rebuiliding it so he's going to buy the car off us I just bought my wife back in May and she is getting a SUV. So since thursday I've been on the hunt for a new can and haven't had much time to work on mine till today but now it's getting close to mating the two halfs together. I had a rockwell oscillating tool from a previous project with a scraper blade on it and it works surprisingly well. I'd say with some acetone, kerosene and/or a grinder the rest will come off what the scrapper won't get.

One step at a time. You are getting there.

A double pumper 650 or 750 is a little more tunable but will suck more gas. A secondary quick change spring kit can be had for the 3310. |

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dem-1901 I've heard a lot of people say good things about them. I'm not the type of driver that has a lead foot all the time and I don't figure I'll be doing any racing. I like the looks of them and they are supposed to be pretty reliable and the price isn't to bad either. |
Justin looks like you are making progress. Hope you get the car situation figured out soon so you can get back to your car.

how to tune and modify holley carbs at your local book store. It may be worth a visit and thumb thru them. I have used edelbrock carbs..(carter AFB) they are ok...But spendy. |
Well it's looking like I may need some of those holley books. I let me buddy I borrowed the holley off of, take my carb and put it on his truck to see if it'd run and he said it run perfect with no issue at all. So now I need to figure out why it works on his motor and not mine.

Not all carb base gaskets are compatable with edelbrock performer manifold. And you could have a small vacuum leak at that point. Also some crap could have stuck the needle and seat open and it was dislodged when your budy used the carb. |
I'm using edelbrock RPM manifold and performer 1604 carb. I've heard the Holley won't seal on some of the edelbrock manifolds. I'm going to put a vacuum gauge on it when I get the carb back.

Well I've been under car for the last 4 hours and have got a lot of the undercoating taken off. I've got a huge pile on the floor and when I walked into the house me wife busted out laughing because I had that stuff ALL over me. I've got quite a bit more to to but it's looking a lot better. Hopefully in the next day or two I can get it finished up.
I've got the majority of it off from the rear seats back and a quite a bit from under the drivers side. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psrdygfuwi.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3mmai1bu.jpg Here's the pile I have so far. It don't look like much but I'd say when it's all off the car will shed about 20-30 lbs of crap. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...pskxhx5exe.jpg |
That looked like a lot of fun (not) ,you going to paint it body color under there ?
|
That crap more than likely saved the floors.
|
No, it's not been any fun at all. Nah, I'm just going to paint it black.
Carpoor, you're exactly right! Before I bought it, it had been sitting outside luckily on a concrete pad since 1989. I'm thankful that stuff was on there or I would've been replacing the whole floor. Thankfully there was only one small spot on the driver floorboard that needed fixed. I've been kinda torn wondering if I should leave what's left on there since I'm not really making a show car, I live on a gravel road, it will act as a sound deadener, plus who's really going to be looking under it anyway. On the other hand the car will most likely never see the conditions that it's seen before, it will look better and not hold dirt in the pores of the undercoating. I dunno what I'm going to do. It's been a huge pain try to take it off. |
When I do mine im gona remove any loose or cracked undercoat
Then im gona re apply and try to get a uniform finish. |
Woke up this morning not being able to walk because I somehow through my left hip outta place yesterday evening
but got straightened out this morning and feeling 100% better. So I was able to get the two halves to make a whole this evening. It starting to actually look like a car again. I used two engine cranes to lower the body down on the frame. Which was kinda a pain to get everything lined up by myself just took some patience. Here are a few pictures of the floor and the car back down on the frame. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psbubrci31.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psh4iniaoa.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psyk0kvfst.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps9dgxvdsk.jpg |
Its looking great ,keep it up.
|
That underside is lookin mighty fine.
|
It takes patience to build one of these cars. You should be proud of your work. :ntwrthy:
|
great work bro!! keep at it man

Been a little while since I've updated, but the work has still been going on. Doesn't really look like much progress but definitely a lot of time. I finally got the passenger side quarter panel and wheel well welding into place over the weekend. Also got the radiator support and the front pass. fender mounted and somewhat set. The drivers side rocker panel is ordered, so I'll start on the other side when that comes in.
Don't look like much, but sure took a lot of time making sure everything lined up right on the quarter panel. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psphlpvjic.jpg http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psfwzi914u.jpg I know it's my car and I am going to build it how I want it, but I'm having a hard time deciding between these two colors. What do you guys think? In the end I think I'm going for more of a resto-mod/pro-touring look for the car when it's done. http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psko09fqp5.jpg |
Just like they're sayin on FB..........go with the darker color. If you could find a source of this product to mix in the paint you would have one of the best lookin cars anywhere. Its crushed mirrors. A painter here around Detroit came up with the idea and did this guy's 1940 Ford and it turned out awesome. The car will change colors in different sunlight. Its not like the chameleon paint...........I personally think its better.
|
I like the darker blue but it will look great in either color .You have been very busy ,looks good.
|
I like the teal.
