I went to a junkyard today and found a spare wheel for my 93 Indy Pace truck and a set of hubcaps for a 72 GMC Jimmy or truck.I also got the El Camino running and out of the shop today as well as the Malibu .Also got the 81 Trans Am on the roller skates I bought from Wild Bill and moved it to the front of the shop.
|
I have a soft spot for those 88'-98' Chevy/GMC trucks. I have owned a few in the past, always liked the styling. I actually tried to find a 91'-93' 454 SS truck before I had bought my 2000 Silverado 5.3L Stepside. Looking back, I would have been better off, they already have the engine/transmission/rear axle that I want. Vs. all of the work swapping in what I want in the newer trucks.
|
This is my first of this bodystyle truck but I do like it ,runs and drives great .Im kinda getting used to the funky Indy Pace Stripes on it but not sure they will stay as I know they are not reproduced .
|
Really? I am surprised that Phoenix Graphics does not reproduce them.
|
Only 1500 of these trucks were produced so I guess they dont think they would sell enough of them to make it worthwhile .
|
John...if you need those stripes replaced...I'm sure Tim could reproduce them. He does factory stripes in vinyl for quite a few local body shops.
If you recall my blue Dodge Diesel pickup, Tim did the silver/gray Bumble Bee stripes and hood graphics for it. |
Bill ,I will keep him in mind .

Beautiful day today, worked like a mule to get things done. I started by pulling the seats back out. I put in the insulation pad out of my old truck on top of the one in the truck. Should be quieter in the interior now. Put all the plastics out of my old truck, not busted up and in MUCH nicer shape. Used the carpet out of my old truck as well. I changed out the steering column, it's nice to have a key that works in the doors and ignition. And again, it is in way better shape. I ran new wires for the rear speakers, installed the RCA cables for the amplifier.
All that is left is a little bit of wiring at the head unit, install the head unit, install the subwoofer (just a little 8"), and reinstall the sill plates and kick panels. It's already a way nicer truck, I'm extremely happy with what I got done today. I'd love to be doing the engine and transmission swap next, but that will have to wait until spring. |
Its looking good .

Truck started running hot Sunday night. Limped it home, coolant starts pouring out. I got it apart today. Someone had previously replaced the water pump, but the cheap SOBs reused the original gaskets and o-ring. They globbed on a ton of orange rtv sealant. So rather than spend $10 on two gaskets and an o-ring... ugh.
I put a new pump on it even though the one I took off seemed OK. No more leaks, runs nice and cool. Took me about an hour and a half, start to finish. I really wanted to have this engine and transmission out and the other one in by now. I hate to spend money and time on things that I have no intention of using. Still haven't had time to get my radio installed, maybe Thursday. |
Radio installed, and I finally have tunes. Happier than a pig in $h#t right now. :)

The Pontiac is almost completely assembled. That was my goal for this year.
|
You know we need more pics than just that 1 dont you ? Please ?

My durango is having issues. No oil pressure when 20 degrees or colder. On a cold start. Engine sounds fine. Replaced the sender. Once the engine is warm it has outstanding pressure. Start it just a minute let it sit then restart it has pressure.
Oddest thing I ever saw. I gonna get e mechanical gauge. It either a computer issue or there a sludge clog freezing in a galley I reckonin. It just a oddity. It only messes up when I need to use it. Cold and ice. LOL kinda a catch 22. |
Changed the rear springs in the Pontiac after work today. That certainly corrected the stance. Going to be rebuilding the front end on my truck tomorrow... new upper and lower a-arms, new bell tech shocks, and front coils from my old truck. (Less miles and 1/2 a coil removed to get the ride height where I want it) The next big project will be to remove the rear axle, rebuild it, and install 4.10 gears & a Yukon posi. (Currently 3.42s and open carrier with 255K miles) I'll also be installing the lower mile leaf springs from my old truck, and replacing the rear shocks with Bilstein 5100s. I'm leaning towards doing the rear brakes at the same time, will upgrade to SUV rotors and dual piston calipers. And adapt an SUV rear sway bar. That should square away the brakes and suspension. I'm chomping at the bit to tear out the 4.8 & 4L60E, and replace it with the LQ4 & 80E from my old truck. I need more powa!

My parts arrived late, didn't have as much time as I would have liked. Only got the driver's side done. I am sore and aching all over. Work is going to suck tomorrow.
Enjoy some boring pictures... |
Finished the other side today, truck is back on the ground. VERY unhappy, doesn't sit any lower despite taking 1/2 a coil out of the springs. I'm pooped, I'll have it aligned this week and go from there.
|
Durango ended up being a clogged oil filter. It had oil coking in it when I got it. I kept the oil changed. It tured to sludge and fell off and clogged the filter. Sea foamed it and go the nasty out. I got another batch in it with fresh oil and filter. I will change it after 150 miles.
But it had oil pressure every start last of the cold spell after sitting all night after the first flush and oil change. |
I drove the 72 truck a bit today even in the light rain ,then got called in to work for a short while so the truck had to be put away.
|
Had the front end alignment done today, it settled some. But, it sits exactly the same height as my father's stock 2000 Sierra. And I have 1/2" shorter tires on the front of my truck. :grumpy:

Pulled the rear axle out of my truck today. Replaced the broken leaf spring on the passenger side. Cleaned up the frame rails and sprayed them with bedliner. Got the rear axle broken down. I also removed the ratty exhaust system and installed the cat back exhaust system off of the other truck. Busy day today, I'm going to be hurting tomorrow at work.
|
I loaded my 72 Chevy truck full of spare parts to sell at the swap meet this weekend at Atlanta Dragway.
|
Went to Bowling Green to pick up another for the growing collection.
Last year we bought this house so that all the cars could be inside. Guess I need to build a bigger garage now... Can't wait to get this one on the road! We towed it home so that I could drop it off to be completely wrapped in Paint Protective Film before it sees the first mile of street time. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...LEMING%204.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...6/DSC_4847.jpg |
Z06?! Nice Eric!
|
Eric ,that's a beauty ,love the color . I hope you have better luck with another garage than I have ,I cant get anyone to give me a bid on one .I want a 5 bay garage built .
|
Finished up my rear axle R & R today. That thing fought me the entire way. Was wrapping things up, my passenger side power window crapped out. I have two suction cups holding it up currently.
|
Got food poisoning Saturday night, so didn't do much yesterday. Got my power window fixed today. I scavenged a motor/regulator assembly from a spare door. Works great. Now maybe I can find the slow leak in the AC system...
|
Food poisoning! Yikes! Do you know where you got it from?
|
I changed the cruddy plugs in my free 95 Chevy truck today ,runs great now.

Nothing exciting today, just an oil change. I am liking the gear change, it is what it needed from the factory.
|
My transmission crapped the bed last night. The 72' will have to sit again while I fix the truck. Going to swap in the engine and transmission out of my old truck. It was the plan all along, but was hoping to hold off until this summer/fall.

The interior is nearly finished in the Pontiac...
|
I opted to have the transmission rebuilt for now. Got it back yesterday, right away knew something was wrong. Got home, let it cool, checked fluid... 5 quarts low. :grumpy:
Called the builder today, said it shouldn't have hurt anything. Still does not set well with me. |
Vanny Vanny been a bad girl LOL.
Had a front wheel bearing go out and seize. So new spindle and rotors and bearing later. But that was last week. So in light of this I knew the rear axles had wear marks on the bearing surface from rebuilding and putting in the posi 2-3 years ago. I ordered Richmond axle kits for both sides. Axles bearings, seals and studs. They are special order so in 2 weeks I will be putting those in. Then all 4 be new. I am not with the wheel falling off thing. Crunch Wobble wobble can you make it to the garage another 1/4 mile. Got lucky there. But once is enough. |
I had to replace the tires on the Suburban about a month ago. I am actually surprised that we didn't have a problem with the old tires considering that when we bought it in Nov 2014, we knew that we needed tires just never got around to it. Oil change this week and maybe a radiator flush to get ready for the summer.
Now the 2008 Toyota needs some tires. Only 52,000 miles on them, but they are the original and have a little bit of wear, mostly highway miles. I have to get these things done before I bring my car home, that way I can spend my money on front end parts for my car. lol Now I just have to tell hubby that. |
