Drove the wagon round trip this weekend to/from the Carolina Chevelle club show held @ Hendricks Motorsports facility...618 miles round trip.
Car ran perfect...an amazing 18.3 MPG on the caravan trip up on Friday.

Good luck Shaun, the warranty on the steering wheel runs out as soon as the Car sees daylight. Ha

Well that's at least a little longer than the warranty on clocks!

Good luck Shaun.

SS Shaun 09-29-2013 06:46 PM

LOL you guys are to much! ...lol cleared out the trunk of the chevelle vacuumed the trunk and vacuumed the inside of the cabin tomorrow i will put the carpet in :)

Quadracer392 09-29-2013 08:04 PM

Today I pulled all the front sheetmetal off to replace the panels and pull the rest of the body off so I can sand and paint the frame.
http://chevelleforum.org/picture.php...pictureid=3714
Well I pulled the drivers side fender off and found something that made my stomach turn into knots. Not only is the frame bent but whoever tried to fix it did a really crappy job and didn't even put everything back....

carpoor 09-29-2013 08:41 PM

That cowl is rough, time to grab a new panel. The thing that concerns me about the frame is weather or not it was straightened properly. Other than that, it looks unsightly.

Quadracer392 09-29-2013 08:59 PM

Well I'm gonna call the frame shop tomorrow and see when he can get it in. Other times I've used him, he's wanted the front sheetmetal on to give him some reference points. If it's not fixable I've found a few of frames within about 150 miles on craiglist anywhere from 600-1k

SS Shaun 10-01-2013 08:17 PM

wired all my gauges, tested them. tuned the carb a little more made sure the fans came on at the right temp. turns on at 190 turns off at 180 so happy!! :) tomorrow put in the carpet and adjust some things on the suspension. I dont see anything stopping me from driving the car this weekend :)

SS Shaun 10-02-2013 04:41 PM

Did the suspension work needed put in the trans tunnel now ready for vacuum carpet and seats then drive :)

shadowgray396 10-02-2013 07:55 PM

BillsCamino 10-06-2013 10:28 AM

Eric...how did your car run yesterday?
Seemed I never was in a location to be able to read the ET board when you made a pass...looked to be hooking pretty good.

flash 10-06-2013 04:41 PM

We drove the vert up to the mountains today to get some fresh apples and just enjoy the weather .

SS Shaun 10-06-2013 06:15 PM

It might have looked that way but it was pretty bad....my bald ET Street radials held in there but I needed to be able to side step the clutch and couldn't.

I need two things a line lock and a two-step. I already have a 6AL-2 for the 2-step that will get put in with the EFI. The car would not sit in the beams without rolling backwards so I could never launch at a consistent RPM. I had to just ride the clutch and then kamikaze the launch. I can't heal-toe this car, the pedals are all 3 at different levels that makes it nearly impossible. First pass managed a horrible 2.13 60' and a 7.87 1/8th @ 101. Made 2 more passes and got the 60 in the 1.93 range dropping the 1/8th down to the 7.78 range at 99 mph (a Paradise 99-100...) Considering the car previously cut a 1.63-1.70 60' that should drop 3 tenths or so off the ET which brings the times back down to just a little slower than it ran before with the auto which I expected. I think my best 1/8th time was low 7-teens (7.13-7.14) maybe 7.0x, but I can't remember.

More importantly, nothing broke and my belts stayed on! Didn't miss a shift and other than a couple bad burnouts trying to dump the clutch and grab the brakes, I had a good time for the first time out with a manual in the car. Good turn out at the track and decent weather!

BillsCamino 10-07-2013 07:07 AM

I'm sure you'll be doing a line lock soon...surprised you haven't done so already. I found mine invaluable. More so on that redneck uphill track :D
Needed @ Silver Dollar too if windy. Always seem to be a headwind there.

carpoor 10-07-2013 07:17 AM

Eric, I think you'll want to invest in a set of stiff sidewall slicks with the six speed. A friend of mine was struggling in 275X with his T56 equipped car made the change this year. (Now he's in a different class.) His car is once again consistent, and close to the performance of when it was automatic.

Yeah, it was always one of those things on the "to-do" list but never got around to it. One thing that has kept me from jumping on it is the lack of a place to mount the button. I will not cut anything up in the car so that creates problems. I am thinking of a solution by making a small bracket that mounts in the console with a toggle switch and a couple push buttons. One to activate the two step, one for the line lock and maybe another button or two to purge the..... well, lets leave it at a line lock and two step for now. I am thinking of taking something like a rear console mount and modifying it so that it mounts to the bottom console bolts. All the wires can be hidden under the carpet and only a small hole will need to be drilled in the bottom of the console to feed the wires through.

Oh, absolutely! The ET radials have been on the car for the past year and are nearly slick. Only the outside grooves remain but the center grooves are all gone. I think the AFCO shocks will help adjust some of the hit out as needed but I have to get to a point where I can launch consistently first. Surprisingly the car did not spin too bad given my harsh driving technique although my 60' shows that it was not doing nearly what it should.

I don't think I was leaving harder than 2-3k RPM - but was difficult to say as I was riding the clutch to light the bulbs and then revving and dumping when the tree went green.

I think with the right launch (assuming the tires grab) I might see a bit more daylight under those tires!

started on the dime every time. But on the way home it stalled out on me at the gas station. and i was like what happened. Checking everything and it wouldnt turn back on. it was acting like it wasnt getting any gas. Took the air cleaner off and found my choke was on full close. Opened it back up and it started right up no problems. got to my block and it did it again. opened it back up and it started right up. I guess i have to figure out a way to keep my choke open since i am not going to drive it during the cold months of winter. But over all had a great time with the chevelle today cant wait to get it aligned correctly and drive it some more :)

fleming23 10-07-2013 09:48 AM

Good to see you finally have the 69 out and about! I know it has been quite a project to get it to this point!

SS Shaun 10-07-2013 04:44 PM

Yes it has and a lot more to go :)

SS Shaun 10-08-2013 08:24 PM

removed the second pink stripe on the passenger side of the car

Toocool 10-10-2013 01:48 PM

On my 70 SS I jacked the engine up to remove the drivers side header. One tube was rubbing the brake distribution block and making a squeaking sound at idle. This car has a 427 with a very lumpy cam that caused the engine to jump around making the squeak unbearable. It seems to have started after I had the engine out for some work, I put new motor mounts on the engine before putting it back in, they must be a little different than the old ones.
Anyway, a torch and a ball pein hammer and no more squeak.
Ron

carpoor 10-10-2013 04:33 PM

I have grown to hate headers.

SS Shaun 10-10-2013 07:35 PM

lol what happened with your headers?

carpoor 10-11-2013 08:45 AM

I took them off, tired of fitment issues. Noise, heat, etc. It's not worth the hassle to me. Not to mention you can make plenty of power on stock manifolds with the right combination.

BillsCamino 10-11-2013 04:32 PM

Heading out right now with the wagon for a local Friday night cruise in and some dinner...beautiful Fall weather too.

fleming23 10-11-2013 06:52 PM

I just do my crazy projects with one car as opposed to buying a new car for each project :D

Never did sell the radiator although I did steal the fan controller off it today. Works much better than the relays I had.

Drove the Silver Lady (our '65) to Ft. Worth this past weekend to the Goodguys show at Texas Motor Speedway, hoped to take a lap on the track but it rained, no it poured at the time it was to drive on the track. The good part was it drove the 200 plus miles each way like a dream and we had a great time. Now it's time to say good by to her for a while as she will be in the paint shop for about 6-8 months.

SS Shaun 10-16-2013 09:18 PM

adjusted the rockers some and adjusted the floats on the carb. next is to dial in the timing to a sweet spot for the 454 and see how she does
