That's cheap. My Hagerty insurance is alot more then that on my car.

shadowgray396 10-17-2013 11:35 PM

Looks like a Sunday drive is in order with the nice weather.

that is because i have my mazda and my chevelle under hagerty. I pay a total now of 347 a year for both cars

RBeckman 10-18-2013 07:32 AM

My Haggerty insurance is only $450.00 a year for both cars and this for 28K on the Chevelle and 32K on the Camaro of replacement value, I could not beat this price anywhere.

fleming23 10-18-2013 07:39 AM

I have been with Hagerty for the past few years but was able to beat their annual premium back in August so I changed both my 71 Stingray and 70 Velle while raising my coverages and stated values.

Still wouldn't get my money out but if the car is lost I could probably build a new one for what I'll get, assuming I only do everything once!

shadowgray396 10-18-2013 08:45 AM

Mine is $400 a year just on the Chevelle, thats for 45K on it.

SS Shaun 10-18-2013 10:21 PM

well i have my mazda at 11k and my chevelle as is right now at 15k that might be why

carpoor 10-19-2013 08:31 AM

I think it is a number of factors, including where you live. I had the Monte insured for $12K and it cost me more than $88 a year. The Chevelle is going to cost me around what Ray is paying.

fleming23 10-19-2013 04:21 PM

Well, I woke up with the intention of going to Peach State Chevelle's Chevy show today but rain cancelled my plans so I decided to spend some time in the garage! Was a nice cool morning to work on the car!

Today's project
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_0866.jpg

Removed my factory SB w/AC springs and QA1 D/A shocks to replace with Viking Double Adjustable coilovers. The one and only reason I did this swap was because with the standard coil springs it was nearly impossible to reach the shock knobs as they are down in the lower control arm bucket and reaching through the coils requires fingers of a 5 year old.... The coilovers will likely further hurt my cars 1/4 mile abilities but at this point I think I am just going to enjoy a fun street car. I'll still make some track trips but with lower expectations about hitting the 10 second ET this car was so close to getting.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_0870.jpg

For my own amusement I set the coilovers as low as possible to see how it looked.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_0872.jpg

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_0876.jpg

It was definitely "in the weeds!" I don't think I could have backed out of the garage without dragging the header so I brought it back up a bit.

Sitting around 25.5" to the fender trim.

RBeckman 10-19-2013 04:45 PM

Wow, the headers are close to dragging, but it looks cool that low.

shadowgray396 10-19-2013 11:28 PM

Looks good lowered. Always fun to tryout new looks.

shadowgray396 10-20-2013 10:49 PM

Weather was just to nice today to leave the car covered up. Went for a cruise and met up with some other friends.

caljon88 10-20-2013 11:51 PM

Put a new alternator on today. The wires are a mess in the entire car. Whoever had it in the past was splice happy! I think the winter may bring a wiring project. I never had a voltage regulator before so I had to trace wires and figure out what was what. I thought I did something wrong but it turns out I have an ignition switch issue, something must be loose. End result was a nice rumble of the vehicle firing up with 14 from the new alternator.

adjusted the rockers correctly this time. did some tuning to the motor got the timing down, now i need to get a vacuum gauge and adjust the floats :)

Stormer 10-21-2013 11:39 AM

Wow, had a GREAT weekend Chevelle here!
After a LOT of hard work and a lot of $$$$$$$, I think I have a solid riding car.
First medium trip, from Ribeirão Preto to SJ do Rio Preto, 220km (+/- 150 miles), 440 km total, to see my parents, with young son Gabriel (9 years old).
The 68 performed like a champ, riding strong and smooth!
Cool as hell! :banana::banana::banana:

fleming23 10-21-2013 06:07 PM

Not what I was wanting to see when I came home from work today....

The Moroso pan has been slightly leaking since this motor has been in the car and I was stupid to not just replace it when the motor was out last year but thought it could be fixed. Anyway, I guess the car knew I ordered a new oil pan Friday and decided it was time to make a big mess! Definitely taking this one to the shop and putting it on a lift as it is a PITA to change. Hopefully we can pull the motor up just enough to get it out without pulling the entire thing!

Should be putting the FAST 2.0 on the car at the same time!

shadowgray396 10-21-2013 07:44 PM

Wow thar a big leak, Is it a crack in the oil pan?

I can only assume as much. I didn't crawl underneath enough to really see. I know there was a hairline crack right on the front bottom edge. Last time I had the car in the shop that edge was ground down and welded. I can't see anything obvious other than a bit of oil on the bottom of the pan. Certainly nothing that would indicate the kind of leak found on the garage floor!

If not the leaded edge of the bottom of the pan my other thought is that the pan rubbed or is rubbing on the crossmember. When the motor comes up to replace the pan I am going to go ahead and put on a solid driver-side motor mount. Not sure that the motor is torquing over but I'd rather get that out of the way as it has been sitting on a shelf for a while now waiting for a reason to go on.

fleming23 10-21-2013 08:52 PM

Found the leak. It was where it has always been. I pulled the drain plug and am going to let the oil drip out over night. Tomorrow I will sand it down and coat it with some good ole' JB Weld. Hopefully that will hold it over for the next week or two until the pan can be replaced!

This was about a minute after wiping clean.

shadowgray396 10-21-2013 10:04 PM

Glad you found it.

It that damage from the header hitting the ground?

fleming23 10-22-2013 07:46 AM

Yes. #1, they hang lower than I would like but are equal length primaries and #2, my front shock settings had the compression way too loose with the SB springs. If I would go through an intersection with a large dip at any high rate of speed the compression would sometimes smack the header on the pavement.

shadowgray396 10-22-2013 08:45 AM

That's an easy fix, just slow down when you through a large dip, Lol

fleming23 10-23-2013 09:07 AM

Sanded down the pan and plastered some JB Weld on the bottom last night. Will let it set up until tomorrow before filling and crossing my fingers! Felt very "bubba-like" and wrong using JB weld on my car....but it is only temporary.

In other news, I did get a rather nice package yesterday so may be that counteracts the negative voodoo from my oil pan fix.

Yes sir! Wanted something that would not starve the pump.

SS Shaun 10-23-2013 11:07 AM

how much? where did you get it? and does it use the stock filler?

Rick's Stainless
http://www.rickstanks.com/index.php

Prices start at a staggering $800 for carb'd applications and go up to about $1600+ depending on if you opt for the VaporWorx. Mine is not a VaporWorx but does have an upgraded internal fuel pump to a Walbro 400 liter per hour pump.

Mine was approximately $1300 shipped. It uses the stock filler location but includes an aftermarket, screw-on cap (haven't actually checked but this was discussed when ordering the tank) so hopefully no more fuel leaking out the back when full and accelerating. I could have easily saved many hundreds and went with a Spectra EFI tank but it seems that they still don't have the baffling worked out to prevent the pump from starvation when driving aggressively (even with the supposed update.) Had I been on a budget, I would mostly like tried the Spectra EFI tank.

Cleaned up the car for a friday night cruise in.

Ms Grumpy 10-25-2013 09:40 PM

I am hoping to drive my car this weekend, for the last time of the season. I have made arrangements to drop my car off at storage late next week.

shadowgray396 10-25-2013 10:39 PM

Took the car over to a small cruise in at a local burger place this evening. First time I have drove it home in the dark. Everything worked well on it.

SS Shaun 10-26-2013 10:52 PM

for the first time ever i had both my toys out at the same show :)

I really wanted to take my car to a wedding shower I had to go to today for my niece. But my mom called and asked if I would drive her. My mom has never ridden in my car, and I didn't feel that a 20 mile trip would be something that she would enjoy. So bummer for me. :(

So have you removed all the stripes off your car? I see you still have the ralley wheels still on.

no i only removed the pink one so far if you look close you can still see the orange and purple stripe. I am going to leave the rally wheels on over the winter but i am saving for some new mags :)

carpoor 11-02-2013 11:22 AM

Shipped off my alternator today for rebuild/restoration. They say four week turn around, it will be there Tuesday. So, when I get it back - should be healed up enough to install it.

Right now, all I have left to buy is a battery and some lube for the Muncie. Will have to shell out some cash for a front end alignment and the exhaust system once it is running.
