Ordered a few more parts, finally pulled the trigger on mufflers...

http://m.summitracing.com/parts/pye-mvr30

The rest of the order was fluids, Brad Penn break in oil, gl-4 gear lube for the Muncie.

SS Shaun 11-27-2013 09:40 PM

No I haven't. Do you have the 18" case? Or the 14" case?

SS Shaun 11-28-2013 09:30 AM

Was hard to hear on my phone, but sounds like it opens up nice when you rev it. What case length mufflers are on your car?

SS Shaun 11-29-2013 11:24 AM

yeah i am not sure what the length of the mufflers are. I just know they are nice and loud when you get at about 5k rpms :)

carpoor 11-29-2013 11:50 AM

I bought the 18" case, hoping my car is quiet at cruise and idle. The factory mufflers are approximately 19" case IIRC. Trying to keep it tame without choking it.

Ms Grumpy 11-30-2013 08:04 PM

Description: Sometimes, you just gotta have the best of everything. When it comes to flow, you can't get much better than Pypes Race Pro mufflers. These mufflers feature a 'straight-through' exhaust flow path. Their throaty sound is surprisingly tame, considering the absence of any impedance when you look down their barrel. At idle and low-rpm cruising, you will not draw much attention, but upon acceleration, bystanders look out! The Race Pros' aggressive sound is the result of applying a layer of stainless mesh around a unique internal perforated tube, accompanied by a healthy stuffing of basalt insulation before the unit is sealed. Pypes Race Pro mufflers are highly recommended for the track, where every 1/10th counts. Of course, there are plenty of these mufflers hidden under some fine street machines, too. Think of these mufflers as large inhalers for your car.

Just curious, for the price, just under $70 a piece. Do they still have the "drone" sound ? I am looking for something that sounds pretty tame for the round town driving, but when I step on it I want to know the power is there. But then again when I am cruising at 70mph, I don't want them to be really loud. I know I am asking for a lot, but I have nothing but time, 4 or 5 months, to get some feedback, and make a decision.

carpoor 11-30-2013 09:49 PM

Every perforated core muffler I have ever had was great. (Magnaflow, Hooker Max Flow, etc.) Very mild at cruise and idle, opens up nice when you apply pressure to the loud pedal.
I expect these to be the same. I originally wanted ultra flows, but they stopped making the 18" case version in the non-welded. From what I have gotten in real world feedback, these are the next best thing.

Still waiting on that damn alternator! :grumpy:

carpoor 12-23-2013 07:53 PM

The all elusive alternator arrived tonight. And as luck would have it... the weather turns to crap tomorrow. ::sigh:: I really need a garage...

shadowgray396 12-24-2013 12:09 AM

Just in time for Christmas

shadowgray396 01-01-2014 06:56 PM

Cleaned up the Chevelle today underneath. Found a gouge in the driveline that has me baffled where it came from. Might be pulling the drive line to take a better look. Pumped up the tires and cleaned the white letters on them. Weather was not to bad today so I polished the rims on my pickup with some of the cleaning products I used on the Chevelle.

carpoor 01-04-2014 05:22 PM

My "New" alternator brackets showed up Thursday night. I stripped and primered them today. Going to wet sand and paint them tomorrow.

shadowgray396 01-04-2014 06:00 PM

Fired up the Chevelle and took it our for an hour drive. Sunny today so I could not resist getting it out.

BillsCamino 01-04-2014 06:06 PM

Checked the antifreeze....

mestorod70 01-05-2014 02:55 PM

got this inplace of the mallory nitrous six.
So far so good.

carpoor 01-05-2014 03:29 PM

Just came in from the garage. I wet sanded my brackets, mixed some paint, sprayed them, and cleaned the gun. I still need to clean the fasteners, but it can wait. I am extremely sore and tired from my first week back to work.

I did not even get to my shop today ,had a young lady wreck her car at my mother n laws house this morning ,it was rainy and very foggy and she didnt make the curve at my driveway and overcorrected ,hit the culvert at my MIL's driveway and went airborn into a very large tree .I spent a couple of hours there with the deputy's and the paramedics ,she was not badly hurt but her car totaled. Then I came back home and gathered firewood for the next several days as it is going to be much colder than normal .

Hope your MIL is OK. Sounds like only damage to a tree. Hope her house is fine.

Ms Grumpy 01-06-2014 01:43 PM

I didn't do anything to my Chevelle today, except think about it while we were shoveing the 10" of snow from in front of the garage in 8 degree weather. I am so glad that she is stored away in a climate controlled warehouse. No snow and 55 degrees.

flash 01-06-2014 05:32 PM

I went in the shop and looked the cars over while looking for missing truck parts but did nothing with the Chevelle or Elky. Im going to start polishing the valve covers that WildBill sold me to go on my truck in the comfort of my easy chair after I get thawed out.

fleming23 01-06-2014 06:14 PM

I'm beginning to think I don't even own a classic car any more. The Chevelle has been at the speed shop since before Thanksgiving and the Vette has been at a buddy's shop since.....Mid-September (actually had to go look at the calendar because I couldn't remember.)

Guess with the weather we've had the past few months it isn't a great loss. Between the weeks of rain and now freezing temps, there would be little driving to do anyway.

flash 01-06-2014 07:10 PM

Eric ,I think we got Washington States rain this past year ,we got our cars out less than any other year I can remember .

SS Shaun 01-07-2014 10:43 AM

i finished dynamatting the rear of the cabin and started installing my 3 point harness in the rear! man what a pain in the neck that was to get the bracket in. Now that i know what i am doing i will see if its warm enough in my garage to do the other side. if not this weekend

The junk, reproduction alternator brackets are off - and the factory brackets are on. MUCH better. Got the rebuilt alternator installed after several tries. What a cluster, I wouldn't recommend the vendor that I used. The finish is very nice and correct, but everything else required tweaking. I won't bother calling the vendor to express my concerns. I know they would pretty much ask why I didn't just do it myself. I wanted to, but the parts to rebuild it are vague as far as fitment. Live and learn...
