Not a chevelle, but since I had the day off and the weather was nice. I decided to detail the PU today and get all the winter grime off of it. Also polished out the aluminum rims, waxed and inside detail. For a almost ten year old truck it's still in good shape and hope it last another 5 years or so.

Thats a nice looking truck .

flash 03-11-2014 09:07 PM

We took the vert out cruising again today after work.

shadowgray396 03-11-2014 09:14 PM

Weather is going to be nice tomorrow, so I plan to pull the Chevelle out of the garage and clean it up and maybe a cruise. Got the oil leak fix on the left valve cover.

Yesterday I got very little done... installed the fuel pump, pump to carb line, battery cable retention bracket on the passenger side engine mount, and installed the coil and bracket.

What side tracked me, a friend came by with the removable hard top for his jeep. I helped prep it and he sparayed it with a textured, bed liner material. He had some left and advised me that it was good for another 45 minutes. So, I sanded and masked the bed of my truck and applied what was left. It did the floor, sides, and tail gate. Big improvement over the scratched up paint.

Just ordered a shifter handle and rear view mirror from GU tonight. The handle will bolt to my Hurst base, and allow me to use that rare factory knob I acquired.

I am checking into a detail shop that has a 2 month waiting list right now. I figure I will have it detailed by a professional this year. I will be asking a lot of questions so that I can learn as much as I can.

chevymaher 03-19-2014 07:29 AM

Rained out.

It been a long nasty winter here. My work is outside today. It going to be warm. I am sitting in my shop at the computer getting motivated drinking coffee.
Since I can't work I going to do what i want to. Work but on something i want not need to do. Sand on the chevelle. Yesterday I was sitting in the chevelle dreaming of the day I can actually drive it. I noticed I am alot bigger than I was in high school. I am so used to driving my van and durango that the cockpit in the chevelle isnt as big as I remember it being. I think one of my projects soon will be making the seat go back a couple more inches. Alter the seat track a little.
I got half the drivers door to sand and some quarter and rocker work to complete. And it finally going to be ready for high build. See what is left to do on this mess. I basically waiting for warm weather to prime some stuff. If it suits me the doors and hood trunk lid come off then Jamb everything out reassemble. then we getting close to this stage in the work to be completed. Another blocking see if anything moved and it ready. After all this time it feels like X-Mas.
Then start the long process of assembling things.
Far from done but out of the woods.

How much room I had inside was the first I notice also. Thought I had more head room in high school. I seem to peg the headliner in it.

Ms Grumpy 03-19-2014 07:19 PM

shadowgray396 03-19-2014 09:57 PM

flash 03-21-2014 08:40 AM

Im hoping for the end of next week ,but Im not holding my breath . They didnt like something on the driverside bed so they sanded it and resprayed it and were clearing it as I left .They were planning to buff it today .

chevymaher 03-21-2014 09:33 AM

I worked all day yesterday on her. It was cold out and i was playing Hookey. Today I got in 4 hours got up early. But alas I got to go to work now. Hate when that happens. Couple more things to get better. I dont know what to call them it is basically ready. I being anal I guess. Few more days then weeks of cleaning the garage and car taping off everything and first of many high builds and sands start.
Now I got to earn my keep and put this trans I just rebuilt in the must-rag convertible. And somehow I can just see in the future I getting roped into restoring that thing to.

carpoor 03-21-2014 12:14 PM

Swapped the shifter and topped off all of the fluids - save for the radiator. Out running around now for: battery, gas, and anti freeze.

I dove in with two feet this morning intending to get the car running and the cam broken in...

This is where I left off today. Chasing down some wires, trying to figure out where they go.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps9ccfcb78.jpg

And trying to identify what two vacuum ports on my carburetor are for. (see the red caps) I am thinking they go to the valve on the snorkel of the air cleaner.

I may take another stab at it after work tomorrow.

SS Shaun 03-22-2014 09:46 PM

Check this post out, asked the same question.

I know the one on the side goes to your TC Solenoid behind the carb and maybe the wires you are trying to figure out are the ones for it.

shadowgray396 03-22-2014 11:28 PM

Got up early this morning and went over to Starbucks with the Chevelle. I was not along almost 100 other cars from all makes showed up for a cup also and talk cars.

Took the Chevelle out for another cruise today and seem to still have oil leaking from the left valve cover I think. Made the mistake of reaching under it with a hot exhaust pipe. I was trying to stay away from it and now have a burn on my left wrist. To anxious to try to find where it is leaking.

Ken Hayes 03-24-2014 11:55 AM

Just pop your covers and install a new set of gaskets.......ya can never be too careful. (HINT) Do this on a cold motor..........you avoid burns that way :-)

No TC Solenoid or wiring for it that I can find. I have an orange wire that runs along the passenger side valve cover. I have a black wire that runs along with the blue wire that goes to my oil sender. And tan wire that runs along the driver's side valve cover, and is too short to be associated with the AC compressor. (I think the tan wire may go to the AC idle solenoid on the carburetor. The other two have me stumped.

chevymaher 03-25-2014 11:54 AM

Weather is to bad to put the trans I working on. So today and tomorrow I get to work on her.
I am so happy right now. I pulled off a true piece of artwork.

The guy i bought these 2 cars from apparently could not load a car to save his life. Both the SS and this car had a dent in the quarter behind the door in front of the wheel well where he loaded them when he got them. Exact same place. Not a bad dent just a scrape really but enough to warp it and be a pain in the rump. Right where 4-5 complex curves meet.

I had it fixed and sprayed it with water, used a spotlight on it and couldn't see it in the shine. But running my hand over it I just didn't like the way it felt. inch wide X 4 inch area. It felt like it warped the metal back from it and there was high spots in what looked like perfect metal. Have I mentioned i am wave chasing. Anyway I was getting 4 spots I didnt like far from the repair area, but i knew it caused it. I skim coated the mess and sanded it back down.

I know somebody out there knows how i feel right now. I could do a flip. It is fixed.

Couple more places and I ready to clean the garage. Start taping and high build time. It just seems like forever I been doing this. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Ms Grumpy 03-25-2014 07:12 PM

Let the fun begin.....

I was talking about vacuum lines, Lol. Did the link help at all for the vacuum lines? Looks like a stock 72 motor in the photo's. Best I could find so far.

Yes Ray, it did help. I figured the one on the side was for the air cleaner. The link you supplied verified that. It also showed the one on the front of the carb I was unsire about is related to that AIR system. (It will be plugged off as I do not have any smog junk on my car.) I also dug around and found the TC solenoid wiring, it looked like a similar plug as the wiper motor. The tan wire I was wondering about does indeed go to the fast idle solenoid on the carburetor. So now I have just two wires to figure out. (The orange wire on the passenger side, and the black wire on the driver's side.)

I am going to attempt to start it Saturday, if it runs without those two wires... I will just tape them up in the harness.

shadowgray396 03-28-2014 12:04 AM

Is the orange wire a long one? I'm thinking it goes to the heater fan motor? You can see the orange wire in the lower left of this picture running along the bottom of the heater box.

carpoor 03-28-2014 05:00 PM

Ray, I will get a close up of the two wires tomorrow. Would I have that same wire if my car is factory air conditioned?
