We only made one pull before the sun broke through the rainy clouds yesterday and I rushed it to the alignment shop. Going on a cruise today and will drive it this week to determine what the driveability needs.

On the pull
It made 488.76 HP & 458.59 TQ with the Prosystems carb straight out of the box and on 34 degrees of timing. With a conservative 25% drive train loss (automatic, mechanical fuel, water & clutch fan) that equates to 650 crank HP which was exactly what I told Mike Lewis I wanted out of this thing. I honestly expected around 440/440 to the tires so 489/459 was excellent and made more than everyone at the shop predicted!

Next Friday the car will be back for some dyno tuning & finishing up a few small things we just didn't have time to complete. Not sure the motor has much more in it but we will play with the timing and see.

Nice flat torque curve!

Impressive, Have fun on your drive today.

Should run bottom 11's on a tire, possibly may break into the 10's. Depends on the converter, gearing, tire, vehicle weight. Any plans to throw a tire on it and see what it will do?

I have a set of MT ET street radials mounted on a set of 15x10 factory style wheels to swap on so I have the tire. This thing has a 3.42 gear and a 3200 stall so it'll move but not set up for racing

carpoor 03-24-2012 06:46 PM

My old 2000 Z28 was around 3800lbs with driver in race trim. It made 480RW on a stingy dyno. I had a SY3500 Yank converter, and 3.73 gears with a 28" tall drag radial. It was a consistent 10.7 - 10.8 car at 124-125 MPH. The best thing was the 23-24 MPG on the highway with the OD trans.

flash 03-24-2012 08:11 PM

Very impressive results ,glad youre almost done.

Final Post /thread.

Pictures from the weekend cruise. Car did great. Broke an alternator belt but other than that was excellent! I managed 15-16 mpg on the interstate doing 80-85 mph which completely blew me away! I checked my odometer to the GPS for 100 miles just to make sure and it was only off by maybe 1 mile in the 100. Fuel tank full every time to the point I could see it in the filler neck. The small block didn't even do that well and I was booking it on the way back home from Phenix City, AL yesterday.

Cruise was very nice! Excellent weather and no problems!

BillsCamino 03-26-2012 05:02 PM

Excellent project Eric!!! I can't wait to see it again in person.
Great job. Bowtie smiley

shadowgray396 03-27-2012 05:46 PM

Looks good Eric, like the background where took the pictures.

fleming23 03-27-2012 06:13 PM

Little video of the first dyno pull. Scheduled to go back Friday to finish up some things. Transmission feels like it is slipping or something when shifting from 2-3 at WOT.

fleming23 03-27-2012 07:04 PM

One more video.

This was sort of a track pass. Went to Phenix City raceway in Alabama but the tower's computers would not come on so we were allowed to just make passes without a tree or slips. I went one time and spun pretty bad down the entire track on my street tires (left drag tires at home). Then the alternator belt broke and tied itself in a knot around the fan.

Hopefully you get all the little things ironed out quickly.

BillsCamino 03-28-2012 07:02 AM

I've never been to the Phenix City dragway...thanks for the "tour".

fleming23 03-28-2012 07:17 AM

Just making sure everyone got the full effect! Could have been shortened to 10 seconds I am sure

SS Shaun 03-28-2012 09:10 AM

wow man for sure that is great! so happy for you man!!

flash 03-28-2012 09:10 AM

Im thinking thats near where Derrell and Judy live ,our friends from Heart Of Dixie .

BillsCamino 03-28-2012 10:14 AM

Phenix City is south west of Columbus, GA/Ft. Benning...just over the state line in AL.

flash 03-28-2012 11:01 AM

OK ,they live farther over than that by a good ways .

fleming23 04-07-2012 08:49 PM

Bumped the timing to 38 total.

I also had my heavy Mickey Thompson ET Street radials on the rear so that might have eaten a bit of my power.

Lost a little horsepower over the previous pull but picked up 20 ft/lbs of torque.

Still have not touched the carb other than adjusting the idle and lowering the bowls a little. This thing was perfect right out of the box! Huge kudos to Patrick & Prosystems on a great carb!

Final rear wheel numbers today, 480hp/478tq

shadowgray396 04-08-2012 01:07 AM

Looking like some good numbers. I bet with a little adjustments the HP will come up.

flash 04-25-2012 07:39 PM

Not a whole lot to post right now as the car is having a few problems fixed....

First the new goodies.

I replaced the entire interior with new panels & covers from Legendary and it turned out GREAT! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures yet but will try to get some. I still need to put the front door panels on as I didn't have any clips. New carpet from ACC & seats were installed by a guy I know from Marietta Auto Trim as a side job and they turned out excellent!! Very happy with the interior now. I also found some original rear side panel arm rests and painted them a color that very closely resembles the pearl white so I could finally replace the crappy aftermarket junk I put in after I got the car.

I installed a new Ausley's radio and replaced my Retrosound. No difference in sound, just looks more original which I liked. I also purchased the kick panels from OPGI with the Kenwood 6.5" speakers. I painted the entire panel & speaker grill with SEM black and you can barely tell they are even there, or they at least do not jump out at you when looking inside the car. Parking brake works and the install was simple. They don't sound wonderful but are much better than the crap I had in the dash.

Not my photo but rather of a guy I know in south GA with his Ausley radio installed.

Two other things that will be changing on the car when it comes back home.

I am replacing the (brand new) Hotchkis - Bilstein shocks with Double Adjustable Front & Rears. For the back I went with an AFCO Eliminator 3870R1 from Speedway Motors and on the front I opted for QA1 Stocker Star shocks from UMI Performance (couldn't find another D/A shock to fit through the lower control arm and was not going to cut my brand new tubular A-Arms)
http://static.speedwaymotors.com/RS/...063870R1_L.jpghttp://www.umiperformance.com/catalo...rfront_LRG.jpg

These should help me get the power planted at the track and still maintain a quality ride when just cruising around town.

Now to the bad....

When I had the car at the speed shop and on the lift I noticed a couple small bubbles in the rear pass. quarter panel, just behind the rear wheel. Well the drag radials required rolling the quarter lip a little and when we did a nice crack developed through the paint, a bondo crack. I took the car to someone I know and does absolutely stunning cars to have it looked at and well.... The photos can tell the rest.... Pretty annoyed this was not fixed when I had my car stripped down not even 1 year ago. I briefly talked to Neil & Darrell and I don't know if there was a miscommunication or what but I would not have just left this if I had known. It is what it is, now I just have to pay to have it all stripped and cut out. It'll get there though and the guy who has the car now does some AMAZING work!!

Photo showing small bubble in paint

Crack that developed
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...elle/image.jpg

Next post for the aftermath.....

fleming23 04-26-2012 07:31 AM

What was hiding underneath

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...77177612_n.jpg
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1334921614

And as of yesterday, the quarter & inner wheel house getting cut out for good metal to go back in.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1335442132

So with these set backs I haven't had the car home in a bit. I am also going to have the rear window pulled because I am pretty sure there was a problem in the window channel that just got seam sealed & I want it fixed correctly with new metal. I am just hoping to have all this done in time for CB12!!

And finally a photo of one of Derrick's (the body shop owner) cars.

Yeah, Peachstate show will be a no go, again. Last year my car was backed into the Friday before the show so maybe it is a sign I just am not meant to take my car to Gainesville....

I do plan on coming up and helping out on Saturday though. I'll bring those front brake assemblies if you still want them.

flash 04-26-2012 11:04 AM

Yes I still want them and I will bring your wall art as well. It has been really crazy busy for us with the boys so we have not done any car stuff but looking forwaed to seeing everyone at Peachstate .This will be our first year as spectators so we can hopefully visit more .

fleming23 04-29-2012 01:48 PM

Car is patched, primed and ready to be sanded & painted again.
Should be home soon!

Also received some car jewelry this weekend! Would have been a great weekend to get the car to the track and do some test & tune but it'll get there.

fleming23 05-18-2012 02:23 PM

Car is almost done but unfortunately Derrick had to head to Indy for the hopeful sale of his 69 Nova I posted above at Mecum tonight. Should roll across the block at 6:20pm.

It is a beautiful car and can't wait for him to finish mine! Everything is done on mine, now just need to put it all back together.
