Have had no car time ,took wednesday and thursday off for vacation and friday was a holiday .Been pressure washing the house ,restaining the rear deck ,plowing the garden and mowed the yard .It's been a real busy 3 days here .
Got the bearing puller. All the parts and lube. Axles got here today. I worked my tail off after being sick and caught my work load up to date.
In the morning vanski getting new axles bearings seals and studs. Just got to dig the press out of the junk piled in front of it in the corner. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...psstslzyy8.jpg |
And my AC is now blowing hot air, just in time for the summer. :( I changed the cabin filters Saturday, holy cow. I don't think anyone ever changed them. Going to throw in some R134 with stop leak to see if I can band aid it and make it last a little longer.
Put the new car on the rollers today. Must say, it made more power than I would have expected!

Two words... Bad Ass.
Changing oil on Vanski. I am getting out the dragon to wash. Drive it a few days. isn't good to just sit all the time.
Dug out my LQ4/80E from my old truck, changed the camshaft. Started to change the valvesprings... interference with the factory valve seals. Made a phone call, the parts I need are on the way.
Installed a Jeep GC box in the 67' C10 this morning. The Trans Am box in the the truck was leaking. |
Well I'll be damned if the torque converter in my freshly rebuilt transmission stopped locking up.
Time to pull this thing apart. I swear it wants the engine and transmission swap. |
I took the 72 Chevy truck out for a little cruise today ,just about 50 miles round trip .My back wont let me enjoy much more than that right now but want to get out as much as I can before the back surgery .
Just spent about $300 on the last few odds and ends. I need to get back on the engine tomorrow morning and wrap things up.
I built and did the majority of the bodywork on mine with my brother. He was doing a 68 Charger at the same time. Then right before paint I brought mine home for the part you guys saw.
Anywho I was at a family gathering at mom's down the street from my brothers. He got mega bucks so he has his motor and supercharger. Basically he is sorting out the bugs in his right now. It is looking good. I haven't seen it in years now. He finished his interior. He has a trans and driveshaft issue right now. His driveshaft loop was hitting the driveshaft under throttle. So he was modifying the loop. |

Victory! Finished up the trunion upgrade on my factory rocker arms today. The long block is all buttoned up save for the harmonic balancer and rockers.
Should be able to start pulling the truck apart next Friday after work. |
Replaced the head gasket on my zero turn mower yesterday, does that count?

Set the rockers on last night and snugged them by hand. Need to go through the sequence and TQ them down properly. I'll get the harmonic balancer back on and take care of the rockers this weekend.
Got the six liter taken care of last weekend. Also got the transmission out of my truck.I got the transmission out of my truck in the Sierra yesterday. Going to fill it and make sure everything is good tomorrow morning.
The GMC seems to be fixed, I'll drive it move this evening to make certain. Almost have the engine out of my truck.
The GMC has been solid every day thankfully. I have not got anything done, had an old injury flare up last Thursday. Spent all weekend in pain, unable to work. Doctor says that this could take 2-3 weeks to heal. :(
All Im able to do is go to my shop and look around ,but I am able to drive m 72 truck while Im healing as my Indy truck is at the bodyshop .

Was feeling better today, so three hours later...
Wow ,you been busy.
Let me tell you, that lift is a game changer. I don't know how I have lived without one for so long. It is going to make building the exhaust system a lot less of a chore.

Went over after work today and installed some DEI heat barrier. The factory insulation had fallen apart and was saturated with oil. My knees were killing me after crouching in the engine bay. So I called it quits after I finished the firewall.
It's looking good in there ,I cant wait to be able to do something ,ANYTHING , I even had my wife ask the Dr yesterday if I could do light house work ,they said NO ,not til they say so. All I can do is walk and Im doing that but it gets boring by myself. I am still driving my 72 Chevy truck though as the Indy truck is in the bodyshop ,or at the shop waiting it's turn for some touch up.
Hey John so glad to hear that at least you can drive your truck. Just be patient, it takes a little longer for the healing process as we get older. I am sure that Joan is looking forward to the day when you can help around the house too. lol

Engine and transmission are in finally. The heat proved to be too much for me around mid day. Hoping to complete more tomorrow morning.

Installed the headers and got the exhaust system mostly figured out. Need to finish welding it up tomorrow and hang the tailpipe.
I just rebuilt the vans rear end again. New gears and bearings axles. I did it a long time ago but didn't have the right tools for it. inch/lb torque wrench mainly. 100 thousand and it was singing again
Wow axles are really picky on the bearing preload. 3-4 inch/lbs makes the difference between silent practically and a hum. Anywho it is quiet now and I 80 miles in on the break in proceedure. I am getting better at it. Should be this is my third one now. I can see why nobody wants to do this except for them selves. it is alot of work. Put it in take it out rinse repeat LOL |

Exhaust system is pretty much done, and I dragged the stepside bed into the shop. Time to get the body work done and get some paint on it.
Flushed the brake system on the motorhome. Fluid was looking a little gunky. I know it's big but I didn't think it would take over 3 quarts of fluid.
Well for years it didn't bug me i couldn't do things to it. I just a poor boy nobody likes me as queen sang in his song LOL.
I got another year before this going to college ordeal is over. And now that it is looking good and not junk looking anymore. It is killin me i can't just finish it and drive it. Wow some people never grow up. I just want to go bark tires and get in trouble LOL. |
Just chasing parts today. Some fittings and hose to redo a transmission line. And an 02 bung for the wideband. Working with a tuner to get a base tune loaded in the next few days. I'm ready to hear this thing run, seems like I have been working on it forever.
I keep hoping my 93 Indy truck is going to get done soon ,I will need it when I go back to work in a couple of weeks .

A little more progress, the intake manifold is on for good. Installed the engine cover as well, had to trim some off of it to clear the cruise cable. It's so hot and humid lately that I don't get much done.
Looking good in there ,carpoor. I hope the voltage regulator for my wife's Ferd Sport Trac is waiting for me at O'Reiley's in a few minutes ,they had to order it in yesterday but it is coming from Nashville so I doubt it will be there .
