Lightened up the Chevelle today by removing some excess rubber from the rear tires. Also replaced the spark plug wires. Idled great but I could feel one cylinder missing at higher RPMs. Finally figured out it was a wire breaking down. Installed a set of Taylor universal fit wires. What a pain sliding the boot over the wire, crimping the connector on then sliding the boot back down. Those silicone jackets on the wires are sticky. Miss is gone now, tested it by rotating the rear tires at a high rate of speed, much higher than the front tires were rotating.

Love the Taylor wires.
A little shot of WD40 helps with that boot assembly. ;)

We cruised top down in the mountains here in North Carolina with temps in the low 70's after a few light rain showers ,perfect temps . I was way out in the boonies and thought I heard banjo music.

Sounds nice John, wish I had a vert for these warm days. Head away from banjo music.

Tried that, didn't work that good. Used silicone spay, that worked a lot better.

BillsCamino 07-04-2014 09:04 AM

I've also used a dab of moly assembly lube.
Damn near impossible to get those wires assembled dry.

Hank70SS 07-04-2014 05:35 PM

The silicone spray helped, but then the wire is all covered with it which makes it slip through your hands. Anyway, got it done. Lynda and I went for a ride earlier today. Ran good and it was a perfect day for it. Temps in the 70's, humidity is down finally.

Driving the wagon around today...attended local cruise & parade this afternoon...out to the fireworks tonight.
VERY pleased with how the drive train swap project turned out.
Great weather!!

shadowgray396 07-04-2014 07:34 PM

Be loading the car tomoorow and heading to a show about 1 1/2 away. Would drive it, but I have a rear main leaking I believe.

shadowgray396 07-06-2014 01:17 AM

Just pulled in from a car show east of use. Guess the car gets to spend the night out of the garage on the trailer for the first time since I have owned it. Car cover will be over it. I got there 2 hours before the show and almost didn't get in. Lots of cars came out today.

flash 07-06-2014 06:43 PM

We got home his afternoon and unpacked the vert and put it away in the shop ,need to give it a good cleaning and detail before the trip to Ohio .

carpoor 07-06-2014 06:57 PM

Today, got the engine and transmsiion seperated. Engine is on the stand waiting for me. Took a break from homework to post this. Hoping to get the pan off tomorrow and see what's going on in there.

shadowgray396 07-06-2014 11:14 PM

Hope it's not anything to serious

shadowgray396 07-06-2014 11:15 PM

Ms Grumpy 07-07-2014 07:54 PM

I hope you left some rubber on those tires Ray.

Flash, can't wait to see in you Ohio.

shadowgray396 07-07-2014 09:11 PM

With the posi it uses both sides, so I have equal wear on the tires. Lol

SS Shaun 07-07-2014 09:37 PM

the whole back half of my car is sanded and ready to be primed. door hinges bushings are replaced now. if time is good tomorrow i can get the roof done once the roof is done i can clean it all up and mask it up and start the door jams i hope by weds :)

chevymaher 07-07-2014 10:46 PM

Sounds strangely familiar. Keep at it.

SS Shaun 07-08-2014 07:49 AM

LOL yeah man i saw the way you did it and i said that is the way i am going to do it...lol

carpoor 07-08-2014 01:21 PM

Got the pan off, went over EVERYTHING with a fine-toothed comb. Cannot find anything hitting or rubbing. Decided to move forward and swap camshafts and lifters.

That said, if anyone needs a good cam for a big block... I have one, barely used. It's a Crane Blueprint cam - tweaked for the pure stocks. The application is 350 & 360 HP 396, 385, 390, & 400 HP 427, and 70' - 72' LS5 454. It's a small cam by most standards, but packs some extra power due to the tweaks. I swapped to something slightly bigger that still fits the rules - in search of a few extra jigga watts.

SS Shaun 07-09-2014 08:23 AM

didn't have much time so all i did was mask the door area so i can paint the door jams. today i hope to sand the roof nice and smooth clean the whole car with wax and grease cleaner and prime the door jams and doors. Once those are primed paint the door jams and doors on the part where the door jams cover it put the doors back on and get ready to paint the rest of the car.

RBeckman 07-09-2014 02:29 PM

I'm sitting here in one of our plants in Querétaro Mexico and thinking I need to get the gas tank back in mine when I get home so I can drive it as I really do miss it. But since I got the Camaro and it is running (except the clock) there is no fire under me to get it done.

carpoor 07-09-2014 04:08 PM

My gaskets will be here tomorrow morning. Planning to put it all back together and get it ready to go back in. Still need to touch up the engine bay and repair the exhaust manifold.

Hank70SS 07-09-2014 05:39 PM

Zip, zero, zilch. I did wash the tires and but some AmorAll glaze on them. the other day. It dries and isn't sticky like the silicone, oily stuff.

Son bought a house and moved his tool chest out of my garage. So I've been rearranging mine. I have a 3 piece Craftsman's set, 2 pieces were in the garage, 1 in the shed. Now all 3 are in the garage and I still don't have enough room in them. I think I need another bottom section, you know, 1 for the SAE tools and one for the metric. Like metric pliers, screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches and hammers. Don't want to mix that stuff up with the SAE stuff.

Ms Grumpy 07-09-2014 06:47 PM

I have been so busy lately that I haven't pulled my car out of the garage. :( I was hoping to do some cruising this weekend but it looks like the weather is not going to cooperate on Saturday and on Sunday my daughters are in the finals of a competition called Oakland County Idol and that starts at noon so it kills the whole day. :( But I hope my girls do well, 1st prize is $500.00.

shadowgray396 07-09-2014 09:26 PM

I wish them good luck.

carpoor 07-10-2014 12:26 PM

Mostly back together with new gaskets. Just need to touch up some paint and repair the driver's side manifold.

SS Shaun 07-10-2014 12:44 PM

today is the day i am going to sand the room clean the car and paint the door jams! it will happen...lol

BillsCamino 07-10-2014 04:12 PM

Pulled the front tag off my wagon this morning...stopped by a buddy's sign shop to see if it can be duplicated.
Heading out the 1st thing tomorrow morning to attend the 11th Annual CanAm Chevelle show held in western NY.
Surprised more of you MI members in here don't attend this show...only about a 4 hr drive from Detroit. :(
Awesome venue and always a great turnout!!

flash 07-10-2014 05:32 PM

What were his thoughts on the tag ,can he duplicate it ?

SS Shaun 07-11-2014 10:16 AM

grandsport 07-11-2014 07:21 PM

SS Shaun 07-11-2014 07:44 PM

fleming23 07-11-2014 10:31 PM

Sold the wheels off mine today... I broke rule #1 - not having new wheels ready at time of sale. Now it gets to sit on jack stands for a few more weeks... Didn't even break it this time and I can't drive it.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/DSC_4039.jpg

shadowgray396 07-11-2014 11:05 PM

Congrast, the time will pass quickly. So what wheels are you getting?

BillsCamino 07-12-2014 06:20 AM

Eric...bring the Vette to the Wendy's cruise tonight!! I'd like to see it.

Ms Grumpy 07-12-2014 06:44 PM

Had a great time at the All American Wayne Road Cruise. Met up with the Michigan Chevelle Club group and hung out most of the day watching the cars.

I have to say that the birds had it out for me today. I couldn't have been there 20 minutes and a bird crapped on the windshield and across the hood of my car.

flash 07-12-2014 08:20 PM

Ms Grumpy ,the birds like me too .
