Sorry, never saw you at the cruise! I was hiding in the shade under the bank's drive-through. We did see the wagon and were even discussing your car with a few friends. When you called I was headed to get a cold beer at the Mexican place!

Got asked to bring my car to Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. One of the guys there decided to have a car show to raise money. They put a purple bucket in front of the car and the one with the most donations was the people choice winner. All the money went to the great cause. My friends purple Dodge Demon won. No trophies just bragging rights and a great way to raise awarness for cancer. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 9 years old, so it's something close to my heart.
This Cobra was one of the best ones I have seen in a long time. It was absolutely gorgeous.

I just had gotten a glimpse of you driving around when I called...thought you had just arrived.
We just walked back from having dinner at Vincent's. We generally pull in, park, get dinner, and then come back and walk around when it's a little cooler. I guess it was around 5pm when we arrived.
Sorry we missed 'ya!!

That radiator works very well!! ;)

flash 07-13-2014 08:28 AM

I thought about bringing the truck down but last time it ran hot in heavy traffic and it still likes to get hot at idle and slow traffic even with the new radiator and clutch fan .Im going to try some different ideas today.

BillsCamino 07-13-2014 09:22 AM

John,
There's no way that truck should be running hot!!!
We need to look at it...

flash 07-13-2014 09:38 AM

Bill ,it does fine except when idling or very slow traffic .

carpoor 07-13-2014 10:44 AM

Where is the base timing set? Did you drill holes in the thermostat? Just thinking out loud...

flash 07-13-2014 12:26 PM

I didnt set the timing but it should be right ,tell me about drilling the thermostat .

grandsport 07-13-2014 12:39 PM

Did Mr.Bill purchase a pre owned big block Chevy motor with all date coded correct parts for his Chevy station wagon?

He did and has it in the car and running. Not sure I have seen any pictures with it in there yet?

I would verify base timing. As far as the thermostat, I always drill 2-4 small relief holes in the outer lip.

Here's a detailed explanation on the subject: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355747

carpoor 07-15-2014 09:18 PM

What was I thinking?

Went and looked at a 72' Chevelle roller today. Ended up striking a deal and leaving a deposit. Going back with the trailer to get it Saturday.

I bought it for my folks. The past few years they have really been talking about the car they bought new in late 72'. And, between my father and I - we have a ton of extra parts lying around. (Rebuilt 72' 454 air cleaner to pan, TH400, 12 bolts, SS dashes, SS wheels, domed hood, etc.)

We won't get to it right away, but the plan is to build a replica of the car they purchased new. Mulsane Blue, White interior, no stripes, SS 454. The old man isn't getting any younger... so it's now or never.

shadowgray396 07-15-2014 09:46 PM

Post some pictures when you get it.

You do like a challenge dont you ? I have a pretty nice 72 grill if you dont already have one .

carpoor 07-17-2014 09:20 PM

It's a matter of money in this case. (The lack of) it would have been great to start with a more complete and nearly rust free car. I'll have about $700 in this car including the fuel to go get it. Plus, saving another one from the crusher.

The front fenders and core support are trash. The roof is actually really nice and solid. Needs quarters, trunk floor, toe kicks, and a patch behind the driver's seat.

I may take you up on that grille. I have two, both broken in different places. I planned to try and piece the two together.

I need to find two good fenders, and front bumper brackets. Also want to find a column shift, tilt column. There's no column in it, and all I have is a non tilt - floor shift column. We pretty much have everything else as far as trim and hard parts.

flash 07-17-2014 09:25 PM

Since this is for your folks future car I will donate the grill when you are ready ,just pay shipping .Just remind me .

Ms Grumpy 07-17-2014 10:31 PM

Wow, thank you! I am completely overwhelmed and don't know what else to say... :ntwrthy:

flash 07-18-2014 07:21 PM

You are welcome . Are you going to use wheelwell moldings ,I think I have a set of those but may not be perfect ?

shadowgray396 07-18-2014 11:42 PM

Clean Chevelle, Club show and shine tomorrow. As Show Chairmen hope it has a good turn out. Worked hard to get the word out there this year.

BillsCamino 07-19-2014 07:37 AM

Doubt we'll be going to tonight's cruise...raining.

flash 07-19-2014 08:13 AM

We may swing by to see if anything is happening .

Ms Grumpy 07-19-2014 06:38 PM

Good Luck Ray.

The weather didn't look nice for today so I decided no cruising. Not sure if there is anything going on tomorrow that I want to go to.

But I did call the Holiday Inn and confirm my 3 rooms for the NOCC show. Still trying to figure out what I want to decorate my car as for Chevelloween. Couple of ideas, does anyone have any for me ?

Ken Hayes 07-19-2014 06:45 PM

Gotta be something to do with a black cat.

carpoor 07-19-2014 08:59 PM

Left early, got the car home around 12:30 - we were pooped, didn't unload it yet. (I actually went home and took a three hour nap with my dog) I'll go over there after work tomorrow and get it unloaded. Going to try to go through some of the spare parts too. It will be nice to clean out the garage and shed.

shadowgray396 07-19-2014 09:57 PM

Club and guest turnout was way way down today. We had only 40 cars come out for the show today. I was so disappointed today. Alot of hard work went into this show by all. I hope this is not Chevellabration all over again. If we can't get the people to come out and support the show then this might have been our last show.

Perfect weather for a show, not to hot today

Bill Here's a wagon for you, Last picture.

flash 07-19-2014 10:34 PM

I dont understand the low turn out as it looked to be very nice out there ,wish we could do it again .That was the best trip ever for us .

SS Shaun 07-20-2014 09:36 AM

trunk is done :)

fleming23 07-21-2014 09:38 AM

Slowly but surely acquiring more useful tools!

This was a good buy, I think! Now I can make/crimp my own A/C lines.
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...A99D8689A1.jpg

Got the car mostly back together yesterday. Pulled a vacuum on the A/C system for a little over 2 hours to remove any moisture and it held vacuum so all seems to be good and ready to be charged! Now if only I had my damn wheels (today marks 4 weeks since I ordered...I'm impatient.)
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...4E878D5922.jpg

Not the cleanest install but I guess not horrible either. I plan to replace the inner fenders soon but for now the old, somewhat abused tins went back in. I'll secure the heater hoses once I find the right clamp.

http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...CE6FA31973.jpg

I got the Classic Auto Air all wired and programmed yesterday. Just need to do some under-dash wiring clean up (a.k.a. zip ties) and it will be ready to ride again.

SS Shaun 07-21-2014 10:40 AM

wow that is great!! looks good man

flash 07-21-2014 11:21 AM

Nice and clean looking ,much better than factory look.

Quadracer392 07-21-2014 11:57 AM

That looks pretty sharp. Did you have any issues with the install? I'm going to do an aftermarket ac in my car and I'm trying to figure out what the better company/system is.

No real issues to speak of. I have Vintage Air in my 71 Stingray and now Classic Auto Air in the Chevelle. I opted for CAA in the Chevelle for a few reasons, all related to fitment of the evaporator behind the dash. With Vintage you have to cut the back of the glovebox along with the center vent but with Classic nothing gets cut and the box fits on the firewall without any modifications (with the exception of a few holes that must be drilled.) I believe with Vintage you can actually hide all of your hoses in the original blower motor location to really clean up the firewall but this is not possible with CAA. You can put 90s on the end and route them to the inner fender, as I did with my A/C but you'll still see the ends. The heater hoses are just too far inboard for that to look good, in my opinion.

I haven't actually tested the CAA functionality yet so I can't comment on actual cooling ability but I do know that the air coming from the vents is already stronger than it was before. Disclaimer - I found a broken clip on the factory air direction door so I was not getting full functionality from the factory selector.

If the CAA kit works anything like it does in the Vette, I'll be quite pleased.
