Sounds like you have the problem solved

chevymaher 09-27-2014 03:40 PM

Most of my stuff came today while i was working on the horn button this morning. I inventoried it. One rear molding was wrong. It is marked right but it looks like it is to a pick up.
I put all the rubber bumpers on the hood and doors , trunk. Trunk lock in, and first official act was to lock the keys in the trunk.
I was like a chicken with it's head cut off not knowing what to do next. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...ps53c66aa3.jpg

Took my car out for a long drive to my nephews house for his daughters 1st birthday. It was the first time that many people in my extended family have ever seen my car. I think that many of the people at the party were amazed that it was my car. Then my daughter and grand daughter came and when my daughter went to leave, my grand daughter told her that she wanted to stay and go home with grandma in her cool car. lol

When I was ready to leave it seems that I had a crowd of people out in front of the house wanting to see me leave. So I buckled my grand daughter into the back seat, she is 8 yrs old, and I left a little bit of rubber and smoke on the street. The best part was my grand daughter sitting in the back seat with her hands in the air yelling "Go grandma, go grandma" lol

shadowgray396 09-27-2014 10:29 PM

Sounds like a good time, I was at my Grandsons first birthday party today. Hard to believe it's been a year already. No Chevelle there today. His other Grandpa did bring his ElCamino.

I finally got around to changing the spark plugs in the Malibu vert today ,forgot what a pain it is on an A/C equipped car .Im surprised it ran as well as it did from Ohio with how bad the plugs were from the bad gas we got up there . She runs so much better now just in time for another vacation trip in a week.

carpoor 09-28-2014 06:31 PM

I'd do that plug change a thousand times before going without A/C in a cruiser.

You can throw that Summit fuel pressure gauge out.
No way in hell that Holley is running on 8.5 lbs of pressure!! Fuel would be spraying out the vent tubes.

SS Shaun 09-30-2014 07:49 AM

Lol yeah it was fresh out the box and once I revved it up a few times it went down to 6.5-7

I was thinking the same thing, but you said it better. Lol

Still not correct. Might want to rev it some more. :D
An 1/8" pipe plug would be more accurate.

Back to working on the steering wheel. New parts can wait. All this got to be done. Concentrate on the old stuff a while so the amount of stuff in the area is diminished. Once a system is completed the extras and leftovers can be tossed. Make room to work.
Completing the dash area going to clean half the storage area out.

chevymaher 10-02-2014 12:04 PM

Maybe it is just me. But it just seems wrong on so many levels taking a drill, a hack saw and a file to a brand new dash bezel. Yet here I am.

SS Shaun 10-02-2014 12:34 PM

LOL^^^

installed my new earl's -6an fuel filter had to turn it on to test for leaks :)

All that to make it fit properly? Or are you modifying it to make it "yours"?

I got the factory roll tach gauges. They don't sell the bezel for it. Your on your own.
So I cut the hole a tad small then filed it to fit the factory bezel from the other dash.

The Not chrome but cheap imitation chrome from the factory was wasted. They do sell the part new but it is supposed to be painted silver. If you send the part out to have it done it is on rubber so it going to be wasted by the time you force it in the hole. So I hillbilled it up and used what I had laying around. A layer of aluminum tape and trimmed it in with a razor. Took me 2 hours to get the hole and the bezel trimmed so it don't look 45 years old. I happy with it.

I was restoring the steering wheel when the bezel arrived. That going to take a while.

Well I worked all day on the venting and steering wheel. My dash pad came. I did a dummy dust. I ordered the wrong one. This one is a cover that fits over the old one. I want the entire bolt down deal with new padding. So I be calling tomorrow to see about a exchange and if that isn't in the cards just order the right part.
They are good there I am sure I be exchanging and paying the difference.
Boy it sure looks good tho. I was sitting in the car like a big kid. Holding the dash emblem dash pad and bezel all in place.
I got plenty to do. It be here before I need it anyway. Probably before I finish this wheel. And am ready to paint the wheel, horn button, vent piece that shows at the bottom and licence plate holder for the front bumper.

shadowgray396 10-05-2014 05:27 PM

Took mine out to blow the dust and cobwebs off it today. Most likely the last time I drive it for a while.

carpoor 10-05-2014 05:34 PM

Didn't touch either Chevelle this weekend. Changed the oil and filter in my truck today. Also pulled the heads off of my LQ4 today so I can send them out to Advanced Induction tomorrow.

(Doing an LQ4/4L80E swap in about 4-5 weeks) :D

SS Shaun 10-05-2014 06:49 PM

drove it around listing to some tunes and enjoyed my day

paulywood 10-06-2014 11:32 AM

Finished up the front end install except for the tie rod ends. Cleaned out the trunk and looked at the motor compartment. With all the cut wires under there I think I'm going to order a new wiring harness and start from scratch.

flash 10-06-2014 04:54 PM

Drove it all over North and South Carolina backroads with the top down .

BillsCamino 10-06-2014 05:12 PM

Better get that top up...thunder and a little rain down here. With more to come later tonight/tomorrow AM.
We were actually up in Blairsville Saturday evening for their local cruise...

Broke down and bought a buffer. Old one was smelling of burnt windings yesterday.
Attachment 3379

carpoor 10-09-2014 04:03 PM

Went and fetched the supposed original engine for my 69' Malibu. More details in the other thread...

Ms Grumpy 10-09-2014 06:11 PM

I have just been so busy lately that I haven't had time to drive my car. And now it is getting close to storing it. I am sad. After this weekend I think I might have some free time to go to a cruise. Let's just hope Mother Nature agrees.

flash 10-09-2014 06:35 PM

We have been driving the wheels off our Malivert all week long ,one more day of vacation to go before heading home .

SS Shaun 10-09-2014 07:47 PM

took the chevelle out for a sping going to the hardware store for some stuff around the house. went to the gas station and someone was trying to buy my chevelle off me. post coming for that...lol

chevymaher 10-09-2014 07:51 PM

Shaun there a guy local here that has a 69 same color as yours. I stopped and talked to him a few times. I think of you everytime I pass it sitting in his drive. I will try to get a pic if I passing and got time to stop.

Finally found the right combination of time and motivation today. I got it mostly back together and verified that it has compression.

flash 10-11-2014 07:59 PM

Looks good .

shadowgray396 10-12-2014 10:07 PM

It's that time of the year when the days are getting shorter, leaves are falling and the last of the warm weather is most likely behind us. Chevelle got gas treatment in the tank, battery tender hooked up and the winter cover put on for a long winters rest. Have some things to work on this winter, but for now it will stay covered most likely until some time after the new year. The dash will be coming out of it to work on some gauges that stop working, and may have to pull the motor to fix an oil leak (rear main).

chevymaher 10-13-2014 06:35 PM

I just sit in my chair now on the computer chatting on chat sites watching cable. Sanding and priming the steering wheel. Which is looking really good now. Once the wheel is in wet primer I been cleaning the El Camino parts getting them looking good and ready to use. Like anybody will ever see them again once the dash goes in. But the important part is they look better than new under there.
Worked a few hours this morning had to go work a while. Fix a drain in a house. Then back to work on the car.
My new dash pad isn't in at Ground Up yet. The SS horn emblem is tho. Those are the last parts of this order I am waiting for.
I just plodding right along still.

Ms Grumpy 10-13-2014 06:48 PM

I am getting a lot of hints from the hubby that maybe it is time to store the car. I don't want to..... I know that I have to, but now the weather is not cooperating, rain is not my friend. I will not take the car to storage knowing that it is wet, and I don't want to spend an hour there wiping all the cracks to make sure it is dry before I put the cover on it. So for now I am happy with it sitting in the garage waiting for a dry day.

flash 10-13-2014 07:39 PM

I didnt even make it out to my shop today ,had to weedeat and cut the grass before the next wave of rain moves in .It is supposed to be nasty tomorrow .
