I was looking for a stereo for the chev. Wow the stud type radios are getting rare as hen's teeth. I found a 160W 80 per channel with a SD Card player and a USB outlet. That don't require dash modifications. It will do for now. I wanted a detachable faced one. But they just won't fit in there. I can hunt again later but for now I happy to have the hole filled. The AM can continue to collect dust on the shelf for years to come, LOL.

Long day yesterday!
Started the day on the way to a local car show. Did a u-turn to double back to the entrance of the facility, hit it and grabbed 2nd gear, the car sputtered and shut off. 4 hours later we determined the $400 MSD ignition box took a dump, likely fried the coil in the process, as it went bad too, the rotor came apart and blew a hole in the back of the distributor cap. So the ENTIRE ignition was pulled out and basically replaced. The distributor was taken apart as one of the rotor screws disappeared and I wanted to make sure nothing got down inside before putting it all back together. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...73C94E693E.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...D3FFB0FCB1.jpg So, we got the car running on a cheap MSD box from 1970 something until I can get a new replacement. Decided to not let the entire day be a waste and went to the local cruise in. One of the more expensive "cruise-ins" I have been to in a while as this was put on, and allowed by the local police department. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...9598E967-1.jpg My DNA would not allow me to just sit by and watch a burnout competition and not participate so.... You can hear people in the crowd, "that's the one that broke down earlier." Yeah, that is right, it broke, we fixed it, and then I took it back out and beat the living snot out of it! All in a good days work! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3YA...ature=youtu.be I guess it was worth it....lol http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...6FC838EC59.jpg Money, quite literally, running down the drain! http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...FB17371BFA.jpg |
Damn ...............................What a burnout .
|
Lots of smoke for sure. Glad your having fun with it.
|
Now that's what I am talkin bout. Get down.
|
Damn Eric!!
Your mechanical "adventures" continue to amaze me. :) You've had the strangest things happen with that '70. Next time...spray a little WD40 or PAM cooking spray on that fender before the burnout. Clean up much easier. ;) |

Finally got the tie rods mounted so the car can steer again. Removed the rear seat and the panels on the rear sides. Found out I am missing a fill panel on the passenger side. It actually looks like the car was hit on that side and repaired but not very well. I unhooked the cylinders from the top so I can run them up and down to bleed out the air in the lines. Manually put the top down and you can really see the lines of how the car will look. Made me more excited to get some work done. Still debating on if I want to pull the motor and repair the leaks on the oil pan and transmission pan this fall or not. Running out of time before it goes to storage. Might just tarp it for the winter and not have the new top put on. Need to cut the extension from the master cylinder to the brake pedal because it's not long enough without it but the extension is way to long. Getting close to having brakes again though.

Did a little upgrading.
Old Fronts - Wilwood D52 Calipers, 11" stock style rotors http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2175.jpg New Fronts - TRSD Signature Calipers (based on PBR calipers which are the same as C5/Cobra brakes) w/13' Rotors http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2177.jpg Size comparison http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2176.jpg Replaced rears with the 12" package to complete the deal (EBC Red pads front & rear) http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...FAF76369CF.jpg There is no question, the front brakes feel much better than the old D52s. The Wilwoods look pretty but actually have less clamping force than the stock calipers. With the right pads and Hydroboost, they worked well enough but I needed a bit more bite for some road course track days I have planned. The rears are absolutely a better design, with a floating caliper. I was not a huge fan of the old ElDorado caliper setup that I had on the rear. The 13" rotors fill the wheel a bit better. Probably could have gone 14" but didn't want to push my luck http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/IMG_2178.jpg |
Also, photos were finally posted of the burnouts (on Facebook so I won't share the link.)
Here is one of the green beast melting the tires off! I forgot how much more expensive 18" tires are than 15" Drag radials.... Won't be doing that again. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...amBurnout2.jpg |
Eric...what 'ya doing with the removed Wilwood stuff??

I've already installed the exact same Wilwood kit on my Sprint. I was inquiring for a friend... One of the 1st items I changed. I couldn't believe after I bought the Sprint I noticed it was a drum brake car!! |

Got the air conditioning harness made. Looks factory. Of course I used all factory parts. Bench tested it and works like a charm. My blower motor wire is purple instead of blue like it should be. But i am over it. Same plug end on it. Worn out plug end and right color wire or perfect wire and end. Hummmm let me think. I used a 69-78 blower resistor and plug. Much easier to get. Just wired 3 speeds like factory and left the one that runs all the time off. Off and 3 speeds instead of on all the time and 3 faster speeds like newer ones.
I got the wiring for the 68 now which seemed to be lacking anywhere on the net. It is the same as a 68 camaro as far as wire colors. One switch is in a different place. And the chevelle has a thermal overload inline on the compressor clutch wiring were the only real differences to speak of. And camaro has a extra power feed wire that isn't on the chevelle. Now messing with the evaporator box cleaning and readying for paint. New relay and blower motor the other day. |
You have been one busy man.

Put my car into storage on Wednesday. Every year I take pics before it goes into a climate controlled storage, here are a few of those pics. I won't be seeing her for about 6 months....

Very nice pics ,I know it must be hard to give her up for the winter .
|
Thanks, and it is. That is why we are still looking at houses down south. The colder weather is taking its toll on grumpy. Today is one of those days for him.
|
Might want to look a little further South...possible snow flurries in Saturday's forecast in extreme North GA!!
Lows here Saturday in mid 30's. :( Was 80+ two days ago... |

We had our first frost of the season this morning ,got to get the chimney cleaned soon to be ready for a good fire .
|
I got most everything back together and ironed out on my 72' today. With a little luck, I'll start it and break in the cam Saturday morning. Then it will have to sit again while I do an engine/transmission swap in my DD the following week. I'm hoping I have enough good weather left to fix the paint and get the front clip back on before the end of this year.
