Forgot to post Tuesday...

Put the Lemans back on the frame. (It's not a Chevelle, but it is an A-Body GM)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps08109805.jpg

And we finally pushed the 72' Chevelle I bought for my father into the shop. (It had been sitting outside under a lean to behind the garage)

I've been wanting to work on my 72', but been busy fighting a few issues with my truck. TQ converter stopped locking up, no codes, SES lights, fluid is fine. Hoping to sort it out or at least pin point the problem tomorrow.

chevymaher 01-10-2015 03:01 PM

I keep walking around it. Looking at it trying to not touch it with grease. Now that is has a dash I do sit in it and dream occasionally.

carpoor 01-13-2015 05:26 PM

Got an offer on my 499 distributor today, worked out an even swap for the 488 distributor I needed for my 69' Malibu. :D

Now, lacking an air cleaner. Does anyone have a factory 4bbl air cleaner for a 69'-up Chevelle/Camaro/Nova? I think they used them through the mid 70s.

carpoor 02-07-2015 04:18 PM

Traded my repop SS hood for a factory flat hood and some cash. (For my 69' Malibu) That was the last piece of sheet metal I was lacking.

flash 02-07-2015 06:47 PM

Sounds like a good trade .

shadowgray396 02-07-2015 10:26 PM

I have a Optima gel cell battery in mine. I do not want battery acid ever leaking on my car. Friend had a cheap battery explode and had acid all over everything.

shadowgray396 02-21-2015 08:26 PM

Took the Chevelle out for a cruise today.

I think its a good pic ,its nice to see you behind the wheel.

chevymaher 02-26-2015 04:25 PM

Got the tank straps done hanging drying. I pulled the tank out of storage. Perfect inside. Out side not so much. Factory undercoating still on it. surface rust. I gonna use it sanding it down.

I got to make my laundry list of things to buy and what to keep for local things. I got my budget for the year. Got the taxes filed and know what i got to work with.

Still making progress.

shadowgray396 02-28-2015 08:01 AM

There will always be a list. I still have things to do to mine.

Yep I call mine the "Never Ending Project"

carpoor 02-28-2015 08:29 AM

Had all kinds of good intentions... but the weather isn't playing along. It's miserable not having a garage.

chevymaher 03-01-2015 09:14 AM

Hands are sore and I am sure they will bleed by the time I am done with this.
Gas tank is a major undertaking cleaning it up. Take the torch to it. Which seems wrong in and of itself. Scrape the undercoating off best I can.
Then sand and foul a piece of sandpaper getting the residue off. Then sand to bare metal.
I hope there a 50 degree day so I can take it outside and paint it soon. I figure it this way. It is getting undercoated. So painting is a trivial thing. I know it supposed to be metal. But I more concerned with never screwing with it ever again. So rust is my concern. Never do that again.

carpoor 03-05-2015 01:33 PM

Finally the planets were aligned... I had the day off and the weather is great. I uncovered the 72' and started to go over everything. Topped off the radiator, tried to prime the oil pump, wasn't seeing oil up top. Popped a valve cover, found a really loose rocker. Made the executive decision to re-run the valves. Very glad I did. If the car gods are smiling on me Saturday, I should be able to get it running and break in the cam.

shadowgray396 03-08-2015 10:26 PM

Drove mine down to the park today and enjoyed the weather.

chevymaher 03-11-2015 02:10 PM

Got a set of headlight buckets and the rings that hold the headlights in today. Been sanding again. Will it ever be over.

carpoor 03-12-2015 12:25 PM

It lives! Got the cam broken in, then I had a brain fart... barely leaned against the core support, fan nicked my expensive radiator. :(

Didn't get it too bad, but enough to spring a pin hole leak. And, I seem to have a couple of small pinhole leaks in the oil pan. It never ends...

shadowgray396 03-12-2015 08:39 PM

Sorry to hear that, but glad you got the cam broke in.

carpoor 03-16-2015 02:06 PM

Dropped off the radiator today for repairs, it's going to be an $85-$125 mistake.

flash 03-16-2015 08:37 PM

All I did today was go into my shop and walk by the Chevelle and El Camino to get some yard tools , the vert has to go in the shop on wednesday .

carpoor 03-18-2015 02:00 PM

And $152.25 it is... just got back from picking up my radiator. What a dumb and costly mistake. I'm going to buy five new tires for it next week. Time to get serious about finishing up this car and driving it.

chevymaher 03-18-2015 03:46 PM

Put the chrome on the tail corners. Put the drivers side corner on. That half of the car is buffed. Spent the rest of the day washing it getting the compound off of every nook and cranny. I don't want to start buffing till I got a long run of time. Because it is so messy and cleanup takes so long.

flash 03-18-2015 08:45 PM

Drove the vert up to the auto shop after work today ,hopefully the speedo will work right when done .

shadowgray396 03-18-2015 11:28 PM

What happen to $85 to $125?

carpoor 03-19-2015 06:28 AM

It was $125... the additional $27.25 is sales tax and materials. It was very hard to find anyone willing to repair it. It has become a lost art, most places just want to sell you a new radiator.

carpoor 03-19-2015 12:33 PM

Radiator is back in and secure. Filled it up with coolant. Spent the rest of my time over there block sanding the Lemans with my father. He kept saying that it was "good practice." Translation - "I need your help, but I'm too proud to ask."

yellow69 03-21-2015 11:27 AM

I've been sanding and painting my slapper bars to put back on hopefully it will help with wheel hop. I know there's better things out there but I like the old look.

Should look right at home on the Chevelle. Era correct.

chevymaher 03-22-2015 11:23 AM

Got the door locks in and the new door handles on. Messing with trunk weather stripping next.

shadowgray396 03-22-2015 12:33 PM

The trunk weatherstrip doesn't have to be glued. It will slip in under the lip and stay in place.

Ms Grumpy 03-23-2015 10:56 AM

Ray my weatherstripping seemes to come loose in the same spot all the time. Is there something that I can use to keep it in place ?

flash 03-23-2015 11:21 AM

Nancy ,it may be in upside down ,it should stay put if its in right.

You can us 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, 5 oz Tube, Black from your local auto parts store. I used it on my door strips where I needed it.

+1 - good product.

chevymaher 03-24-2015 12:09 PM

Cleaning. I can see right now I going to be very familiar with the brush I using. Cleaning out the nooks and crannies.

carpoor 03-24-2015 07:32 PM

Did nothing on my cars, but got some color on my father's 72' LeMans GT today.
