Yes...kinda...

I had a low mileage, stock '78 Corvette 350 short block that I added fresh Vortec -062 heads and a new, take out GM 350 HO flat tappet cam & lifters.
CR worked out to 9.4
Topped it off with a re-curved HEI, an Edelbrock RPM intake and the new style Street Demon 625 carb.
VERY crisp throttle response!!

I'm a cheapskate so I'm going to use some Elmer's Wood putty and paint it yellow.

Spent about an hour cleaning up oil under mine took it out for a 10 mile drive and looks like the left valve cover is leaking. Need to find some valve covers that fit better then these after market ones. I have my originals but are in bad shape. Any suggestions on how to keep this from leaking?

Ken your car got lowered mine got raised. Lol

Quadracer392 05-02-2015 09:35 PM

Ray, could you clean it up real good and use some red or black RTV or maybe some Indian Head Shellac on both side of the gasket?

carpoor 05-03-2015 07:56 AM

Ever thought about having the originals rechromed? Or are they too beat up?

flash 05-03-2015 08:12 AM

Got the Chevelle out and cruised a little after work yesterday ,plan to take it out again this afternoon.

I need go get them out and really look at them. There is someone out there that makes new ones that look like the originals and fit well from what I remember. I'm thinking it will cost about $500 to do my originals. I believe it is a corvette site that offers them.

chevymaher 05-03-2015 04:31 PM

I have owned my chevelle for ever. But I just work on it. My buddy is the opposite he just drives his. Well today he let me drive his.
I was laughing it is sad i have owned a chevelle for 12 years but they only one I drove was 3 years ago and it was yours.
But i had fun. He said it was a motivator for me.

Ms Grumpy 05-03-2015 08:29 PM

Made plans this weekend to pick up my car on Wednesday. It has been so tough watching and hearing about everyone out and about in their cars with the weather being so nice. But I was dealing with grumpys BMX bike collection taking up room in the garage.

So I was tired of waiting on him and went and rented a storage unit on Saturday. I moved bikes, parts, boxes and more stuff all day. My son and I even took apart a bike rack that held 8 bikes, moved it to the storage unit, then put it back together and put bikes on it in the storage unit.

I know when I get my car out of storage that I need to have some front end work done, so it may be a little while til I am out cruising. But it will be home....in MY GARAGE !

shadowgray396 05-03-2015 10:11 PM

Glad to hear you are getting it home.

flash 05-04-2015 11:15 AM

Im glad to hear its coming home too ,we were out cruising again yesterday and had several people trying to buy it .I need to make a recording of IT AINT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE.

Enjoying sunrise car show this morning. Rolled out at 5:30am and will be back by 11am. Still have my Saturday to do something. Going to be in the 80's today

BillsCamino 05-09-2015 01:13 PM

Beautiful day up here in Vancouver too Ray....highs mid 70s.

Was kinda glad to get off that boat...left San Diego Tuesday afternoon heading north.

Wed & Thur were very rough!!! Gale force winds and 15-20 ft swells but no rain!!!
Strange but interesting to see a nearly 1,000 ft long ship get bounced around by Mother Nature...looked like a crab boat on the Discovery Channel. :)
Capt had ordered all outer decks closed.

Finally calmed down on Friday but put us into Victoria, BC about 6 hrs late.

Did see a pod of Orcas running next to the ship just south of Seattle yesterday...

chevymaher 05-09-2015 08:40 PM

This may sound silly. But since the dash and paint is done. I been basically having in house car shows. People come over and look hear the cars story. Look under the car see if it is as nice as the top. Stare at the block a while and shoot the bull about things to come.

They talk about it to friends and other car buffs. Then the next wave comes over.

I always run the drag about it being a fake and a clone. Nobody seems to care. They just talk nasty about those saying such things. I just doing what they said to do LOL.

I get alot of can I have a ride once it is running.

So I been having a good time with mine lately even if it just sits there alot.

flash 05-09-2015 09:02 PM

We got out and cruised in the convertible until dark ,perfect weather for it .

That's a nice 66'. :ntwrthy:

My dad owned a 66' SS 396 for two weeks back in 1968. (He was barely 18) Was showing off for a friend, going through the gears, someone backed out in front of him. Totaled that poor car and nearly killed his friend.

shadowgray396 05-25-2015 09:06 PM

Took mine to a Memorial Day show for Veterans today. Glad to support our Veterans and those serving when I can.

flash 05-25-2015 09:29 PM

I got another tank of watery gas on saturday and have been trying to drive most of it out after adding gas treatment to the tank along with premium fuel too.I then changed the plugs and it is now running good again which is good as we are leaving in it for a two week vacation next weekend .

Hank70SS 05-29-2015 11:18 AM

I mentioned in another post that I couldn't get the Chevelle started and towed it home from my neighbors. Finally got around to dropping the fuel tank. Sure enough, 2 big cracks in the hose right where it connects to the sending unit. Now I have to see if can get it back in, it was wedged in between the frame rails and tailpipes. I had to pry it out, hope I don't have to drop the exhaust to get it back in.

Took the Chevelle to Heaven's Landing for the WannaGoFast 1/2 mile race Saturday. The car broke down in the burnout box on me. 1st time I have ever had the car break while racing so I guess I was over-due as it has seen some abuse. Wasn't sure what happened at the time but lost the clutch. I did the burnout and could tell something was a little off, had to force it into reverse to stage and when I went to put it back into 1st, it did not want to go at all. Then as I am rolling into the beams, the car kept stalling (which was due to the clutch not holding and dragging the motor down.) Was able to pull it off to the side, and fluid began pouring from the bottom of the car.

Sitting broken off to the side at the starting line

Thankfully I trailered it to the race (approx 3 hours away) but was pretty frustrated to have lost out on the registration money. If you are not familiar, these events are not cheap.

Anyway got it home and put it in the garage until Sunday. Woke up early and put my MaxJax 2 post lift to work for the first real time. Pulled the transmission and found the throw-out bearing was obliterated. I guess that is the good news, as it was only $65 to replace + most of my Sunday.

The lift helped but my crappy harbor freight transmission jack did not work quite as well as I had hoped.

The carnage
http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/o...21A24FC5CA.jpg

$300 entry fee and 6 hours of driving, all because of this $65 part going bad during the burnout.

We drove the vert from Nashville to Kokomo ,Indiana and saw some very nice scenery along the way with a bit of rain thrown into the mix.

chevymaher 06-04-2015 07:36 PM

I been doing yard and garden work like I said. We going to Gatlinburg monday on vacation. When I get back I will make my order for the chevelle.
I was sorting parts and moving them to the bench. E brake cables and brake lines. It about time to get that done so i can move it around better.

I want to get it in the sun on a hot day this summer so it gets real hot for putting the top on. I need to get a new heat gun for that to. Old one said I done a while back.

I did a test spray on a extra red arm rest. See if it is what I want. It looks perfect. I been tossing it across the floor and scraping it with screwdrivers. See if it is tough enough for use. Parts I am using are black already so if it mean enough for red it good enough to spruce up the old parts.

hkalin 06-08-2015 09:35 AM

Drained the rear end and was pleasantly surprised to see what I was told was true. Had a brand new Eaton Posi unit with 3:55 Richmond gears and new axles. Also installed the new gas tank. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscepc8w5i.jpg

flash 06-08-2015 07:25 PM

RBeckman 06-09-2015 07:52 AM
