Congrats Ray! Car looks sweet!

Ken Hayes 07-13-2015 10:27 PM

WTG looks awesome.

shadowgray396 07-17-2015 02:11 PM

Drove the car out to dinner last night. Fun to finally be able to drive it more now.

flash 07-17-2015 03:56 PM

Congrats on the press Ray .

I got my work getting caught up now. I got the big stuff done. Engines in for 2 people. Now I am rearranging the garage to chevelle status work again. I got smaller jobs but I can do them without a major catastrophe going on.

I pulling the chevelle parts I need back out and arranging them for inventory so I know what I need to buy soon. For this next stage of work. I got to move the car in the heat once I get my next few jobs done. Get it good and hot for putting the top on.

Then I turning the car around in the bay so the nose is toward the open area. So the cherry picker is easier to use when it is engine time. It still a ways off but I seeing the light. I should get a bunch done this fall and winter on the interior and finish the outside trim.

I got a pen solder gun the other day for the radio work I got to do. Need something a little more delicate than the pistol style one I usually use. I got to call the stereo place back and see if they can get me the plugs I ask about.

shadowgray396 08-03-2015 02:36 PM

Been a busy month for me and the chevelle. Finally been able to drive it more with a job that doesn't take me out of town any more. Was at 2 car shows this last weekend, one sponsored by the club and one with some friends. The wife's project needs to start back up, so it may be a slow month for the car.

shadowgray396 08-17-2015 02:56 PM

Not sure how I did it, but managed to damage the back of my driver seat. Put a small tear in it. Guess Ill just replace the back. Been wanting to change the seat cushions, so I guess this is the time to do it.

BillsCamino 08-22-2015 06:42 PM

Drove the Sprint over to AL today for the Heart Of Dixie Chevelle club's show.
Was great to visit with friends I haven't seen in a while!!
Good turnout too...over 140 cars.

badrad 08-23-2015 11:47 AM

I finished swapping in new A-arms and steering components with disc brakes on my '67 Elky.

carpoor 08-23-2015 01:49 PM

Spent some time working on freeing up the 350 out of my Malibu. Basically squirted some ATF in the spark plug holes, exhaust ports, and dumped a little in the intake. Also dumped some used oil down in the intake as well. (Heard it works well)

I am seriously going to see if I can free it up, then do some small repairs and get it running. If I am successful, I might restore the frame and firewall - then try to get it roadworthy. Rust, dents, and all. Why not?

chevymaher 08-27-2015 07:58 AM

I have a odd lull in work right now. I reckon i go mess with the passenger side window felts. And then mess with the trunk weatherstripping today if nothing else pops up.

carpoor 08-29-2015 03:17 PM

Was outside "weatherproofing" the property in preparation for the coming storm, thought - "Maybe I'll see if that engine will free up." I grabbed a four foot long pry bar, and it didn't even budge.

Any suggestions? Bing searches say marvel mystery oil or pb blaster. I may buy a quart of whichever one I can find and pour it in. I'm not ready to give up yet.

BillsCamino 08-29-2015 07:56 PM

I'd try also changing the oil & filter...pull the distributor and prime the oil pump for a while.

chevymaher 08-29-2015 08:37 PM

Finally finished the passenger side window felts today. Then I did my yard work.

Bill, engine is out of the car. By the paper trail, it was last on the road in 1978. I think the rings are fused to the cylinder walls.

chevymaher 09-01-2015 11:34 AM

Put the rubber A Arm dust shields on. Then got a bucket to sit on and cleaned the frame core support basically dog house area of splatter from the buffing. In preparation of installing the grill parts and chrome. Because once that is done i wont ever be able to get to that stuff again.

chevymaher 09-11-2015 07:33 PM

I am just rinky dink stuff now that got to be done. I mounted the windshield squirters on the hood. Battery tray. Found out I had the turn signal run through one of its holes. New part it didn't have the hole just a dimple. Drilled it out and got all that straightened out. It is in.
Now I messing with the quarter glass chrome and rubber.

BillsCamino 09-12-2015 12:58 PM

On the Sprint...
Finally got around to swapping out the crappy organic disc pads that were supplied with the Wilwood conversion kit to a set of Wagner Thermo Quiet ceramic pads.
No more brake dust!!
Also, installed a pair of Metro door weatherstripping. Hopefully no more wind noise at highway speeds.

Drove the GMC to a local cruise last night...running good.
Now that the weather has cooled off some, I'm going to rebuild it's factory A/C system.

chevymaher 09-12-2015 08:44 PM

I know one thing. Now that it has headlights and looks like a car. It is killin me i want to drive it so bad. All those years I was okay because it just looked like a hunk-o-junk that wouldn't ever run. But that all changed here in the last month that it looks like you could hop right in and take off.
Grill should be here monday tracking says.

chevymaher 09-18-2015 08:38 AM

I am putting away tools. Clean start for the next phase. Cutting up and trowing away the empty boxes. Wow I filled 2 cans. I gonna have to wait till garbage day to do the rest LOL.

chevymaher 09-22-2015 02:25 PM

Quarter glass chrome and weatherstripping was dried. I got the windows all adjusted today the way I like them to be.

Wifey even getting into the spirit of things, She wanted a pic of me in the car for her family in the philippines.

I got more plastic and tape today so I can mask the entire top of the car off yet again and undercoat the beast. I tell you what 3M really likes me I am sure, I am paying someones retirement with just tape and plastic I buy LOL.

Then I reckon the gas tank and sending unit going in after that. Stereo keeps calling my name to put it in to. So many things so little time,

Silly thing hasn't been driven and it been washed 3X I even put the top dressing on it. I spend as much time cleaning as working .

Just a big kid now sitting in it pretending to drive. Like Dad's 68 when I was 12 LOL.

It looks nearly finished, I don't believe I have ever noticed what it has for a drivetrain. (Engine, transmission, rear axle)

Original rear end 10 bolt with a pro series posi and c-clip eliminator kit. That I made my own gaskets for to seal it. 3.73 gears. All richmond and eaton products.

4 link is boxed in and adjustable. Factory parts, I bought steel stock from the steel plant and welded them together. Looks factory under there. Just a few extra bolt holes for adjustments once we get that far. Energy Suspension bushings. All front end parts ball joints, tie rods etc are new.

69 disc brake spindles. I couldn't find the calipers for the 68 4 piston spindles I got. Don't matter it is a 307 malibu. But it would have been a nice touch.

Pair of 68 muncies I rebuilt one last year. The other is for when I tear this one to shreds. Hurst competition plus shifter.

I am getting a crate 454 mercruiser engine I so impressed with them after the one I put in the van. Dynoed and guaranteed to have at least 500 HP and 550 tq. Not shabby for a daily driven grocery getter I a thinkin.

I have a 454 4 bolt main but after finding this I liking it alot.

I got to buy interior and engine everything else I got and is done just needs assembled. I gettin it whittled down and getting ansty to drive it now. Interior in the spring once it is in we in the home stretch. Now undercoating and putting the brakes together. Stereo in are the next projects.

Here is a you tube of the engine in question. Smooth idle and torque off idle. Perfect for the little whoops sideways shifts. Tame enough for the air conditioning and power brakes. Enough power to be fun to drive.

Good calls on the gear ratio, manual transmission, and big block. :D

My 72' has a 468/M21/3.73combo, I expect it to be "fun."

flash 09-24-2015 07:44 PM

chevymaher 09-25-2015 08:02 PM

Got the e brake on and working. Mental note to self. Make sure to install the cable that goes through the frame BEFORE the doghouse is on.

BillsCamino 09-26-2015 09:13 PM

Went and visited about 75 or so Chevelles today in KC...great, early Fall weather too.

shadowgray396 09-26-2015 09:28 PM

Took the Chevelle out for the first time in a month. Covered and put away for the winter.

Already?!? There's still a month and half of good cruising weather around here. Drive through the mountains and check out all the fall colors too.

shadowgray396 09-27-2015 09:28 AM

I have to admit it might still get it out if the weather holds. I need to take the dash out this year and fix the tach and finally hook up the radio. All the car shows are done around here and with the wife's project in full swing might not get time to drive it much. I have admit I think I'm done with most of the shows, except for a couple. I did the circuit this year to a lot of shows since I was home for the first time in 37 years for a summer.

chevymaher 10-06-2015 08:07 AM

I have been sitting in it once a day. I cut my hand on some sheetmetal from a garage door at my sisters. Had the door manually locked and the button got hit to open. Someone just hit the lock with thier leg going by. I took that off. It ripped the top of the door apart.

So I been waiting and taking it easy letting the cut heal. Not very big but deep.

shadowgray396 10-09-2015 09:27 AM

Been a busy summer for the car and myself. I have to admit I went to alot of shows for the first time( really to many). It was the first summer I have been home in almost 37 years since I switch jobs in January. Car seemed to be well recieved at shows and had a lot of fun talking with other car owners and looking at some really nice rides. I plan to scale back next year on the shows and just enjoy the car

flash 10-09-2015 11:15 AM

It looks like you and the Chevelle showed well .I have grown tired of a lot of the car shows and like cruise in type shows better with the exception of The Northern Ohio Chevelle Show ,it is still a good time .
