Finished the passenger side fender after work today. Met my folks for dinner tonight, talked to my father about changing the color. He felt like now is the time.
Going with Mulsane Blue. Will retain the white stripes and covert tan interior. |
Detailed the Sprint yesterday...heading down to Moultrie this weekend to sell it.
Sold the Sprint on Friday...actually had two guys wanting it but the guy from Ft. Myers with the taller stack of 100's won out. ;)
I wish I had your luck selling vehicles Bill.
The only GMC sprints around here seem to be rust buckets lately. My dad had a 72.
Bill's was a nice one .
Got car in the shop today, gave it a quick bath before putting it away.
Finally been working on the 72 convertible. Pulled the motor and transmission 2 weeks ago. Took the trans down to my friend Larry who went through it. New pump, new high performance clutches, new stall converter. He also installed a shift kit. Motor needs a new oil pan gasket, the old one dried out and leaks. Also going to put new valve covers and gaskets on. Been working on the wiring. Ordered a complete set from American Autowire. Started in the trunk to get the hang of it. Then on to the engine compartment. Once that's done I'll put the motor and trans back in.

Dusted mine off...may drive it to a gun club function tomorrow.
Moved it so I can clean under it and mop the floor. Filled the tires. Cleaned it. It is a nice day so the van is out side and I am getting the winter funk off of the floor.
Dust on the floor is quickly dust on the car LOL. |
Never left the shop...looked like rain and now beginning to sprinkle. :(
Drove the pickup to the meeting. |
Pulled the rear window trim, stripped more paint. This is going to be a long process.
Wiring! Realized none of my crimpers will work for the dual connectors so I ordered one yesterday. I've been pulling and routing wires and doing all the single connections in the meantime. Trunk, engine and front lights are done as far as I can. Think I'm going to replace the oil pan gasket and maybe the valve covers on the engine tomorrow. I'd like to complete what I have started before I tackle the dash.
Nothing exciting, stripped more paint. Hoping to be painting it by April.

Took the car out to a Grand Opening Ceremony of a bridge and gave some VIP's a ride across in a parade. I got ask to represent the 70 decade with my car. Got to be one of the first cars to drive on the bridge.

Well, last year I was gonna make some custom panels to go into the trunk but saw that I would lose a lot of space that way............shitcan the idea.
So this year I'm gonna make a custom console that goes from under the dash and extends to the rear seat. Will house some gauges, cup holders and a storage compartment with a arm rest top. Making it out of 1/2" MDF covered with foam and black naugahyde. Kinda cold in the garage right now to do the work but I'll keep ya's posted. |
That looks cool Ken. I pulled the dash out of mine so I could plug in the dash harness and then drop the motor in, which I also got done. Then the flu/pneumonia invaded our house and put an end to all work. Hope to get back at it next weekend. Nice to see things going back in though!
Console plan looks good Ken.
paulywood ,hope you feel better soon . |
Should look good ken. Not cold here. It around 60 here. Winter skipped us this year.
I had a wheel bearing go bad on my van. I am waiting on a spindle to come. But I am down here just being me it is my toybox.
Anyway my son came down he wanted to sit in the chevelle and play race car driver. Listen to the radio and pretend to drive. He keeps saying my chevelle. Whoa there big fella it wont be yours for quite some time if I got anything to say about it. I ain't ready to go just yet LOL. At best our chevelle. Kids. |
I was getting brakes for the van today. I go by the shall we call it customs shop. They mainly deal with classics and exotic cars. I think it is actually advertised a top and interior place.
Anywho it was heart breaking. 71 chevelle with custom paint was there. I mean it looked good freshly done. It had its side caved in. Someone hit it. door and rear window area of the quarter shoved in. Looked like the other car climbed over the chevelles frame. Rope tying the door closed he drove it there. It stayed there after they talked I had to go back for other parts working. So it will live again. I can't wait to see it finished again. This place does good work. |
I cleaned out the truck of the Malivert ,nothing else though.
Got the sides cut, edges rounded over, top sections cut. Will tack it together and see how she fits. Then wrap some sections in naugahyde and start putting it all together.
Tacked it all together and put it in the car........not too bad if I say so myself. Now putting on some padding and then wrap it. Pics tomorrow.
Removed the rear wheel opening moldings from the 72'. The garbage hardware was trashed, had a few really fight me. Does anyone sell stainless steel trim screws for the wheel opening moldings? I absolutely refuse to put non stainless screws back when I reinstall them.

Here's a few pics of assembly. The multi-colored stuff is some sticky back foam board for a touch of padding. Slow but sure, and its comin together.
It's looking good .
Looking good, you could add the console harness and add a couple of side lights and it would light up on the floors when you open the doors like the original had for the back seat area.
Drove the '72 to it's 1st cruise night of the season last night...awesome weather!!

Was going to drive the car today, but the battery was dead. Charging now. Hope the battery will charge. It's only 3 years old and is a gei cell battery. Didn't put the battery tender back on after I drove it last and left the battery hooked up to the car. I usually disconnect the positive cable.
I do too.
Seems like the '72 clock and the radio memory will drain down a battery over a week or so if left hooked up. Never had that issue before on previous Chevelles...all had no or non functioning clocks and stock push button radios. |
Finished up the wiring in the engine compartment and put the engine back in, hopefully for the last time this spring. Even put the bolts in the motor mounts. Finished up the wiring for the gas gauge and mounted the license plate light. Pulled the battery tray out, a battery must have leaked at some point because it was new but it's in rough shape. I sprayed it and the fender black after taking the wire wheel to them. Cleaned out the passenger compartment and started on the dash wiring. Disassembled the dash, cleaned it all up, painted the supports and started putting it back together. Removed the passenger side rear window and all associated hardware. The teeth that hold the window crank on are stripped. Have to figure out what I want to do with that. Very productive weekend for me.
Nothing exciting, still stripping paint off of the 72' I am hoping to repaint it next month.
While I read of all the stuff that you guys are doing I am dying to get my car out of storage. I am jealous.
I keep looking at mine and waiting. The ol family come first came back into play and I just waiting again.
Kid and her college is it this time. I keep hearing the old saying. It will never run again LOL. Friends dad used to say that every time he started a project car. I know it shouldn't bother me. But on facebook somebody posted insulting stuff again. No reason just being a jerk. Just seems it isn't going away. So I quit the group. I don't need aggravating notifications. They make the hobby not fun. I know it isn't all. Like shadow is cool as hell so take this whith a grain of salt. But it just seem's like some of the numbers guys. Really put the SS in "a SS hole". I really am considering quitting all social media concerning chevelles and just enjoy the car locally. Because honestly only a numbers owner cares nobody else does. They talk nothing but dirt. I try to be the bigger person. and not fire back. Like original color combos and lack of options. Oh that is cooler you got the car that embarrassed anyone to own when it was new. And look you put a ricer hood on it to isn't that special. Mopar and ford don't have this going on. It is just annoying you can't have fun without some prick running their mouth. Sorry i just had to vent. |

I get it all the time when I take my car out, I have just learned to tune them out. I don't even bother to correct them anymore when they tell there buddy all the wrong info. Your always welcome here, I don't care if you own a rust bucket or a number matching LS 6 chevelle, it all about having something in common and supporting each other in the hobby. Take a care. Ray |

Yea I see that all the time. I have owned alot of chevelles. Mostly when they were still relatively new. They say this trim didn't come except on these models. I just think HUH I owed 6 of that exact car and they all had it. But I keep it to myself. To me it isn't about the details it is the cars. Stock modified whatever. I owned one as my first car and was hooked. Love them. My car is a 68 with a 69 SS on the back and dash, because I like the emblem better. I saw a numbers guy with a 69 SS talkin smack and he had the 68 emblem on the back. I giggled and thought it was ironic. I actually wanted a super bee. But dad wouldn't let me have it. Because it was a 440 6 pk and he figured I would kill myself. I was limited to 350 CI or smaller V-8's so I got a 66 327 4 speed chevelle. That ended up being faster than that super bee. I did race it. It just eats me when someone is actually trying to pick fights. I am older and trying to get out of that phase in my life. But really I just want to beat them to death. You started it moron. Where our local cruise spot is. There are ricers to. Hey if a young boy got a civic running a 13. I all for it he bad to the bone. It is about the hobby, the people the cars, good times. I love when the old 40's mobiles cruise through. I love all cars that people build. Some people it is about being better than someone else. I make more money. The bigger house. I got the better car for whatever reason. They are mentally making up for some short coming in their personality where they feel inadequate. I just wish they would look in the mirror and tell themselves how great they are and spare the rest of us. And stop trying to ruin the hobby far anyone else. Can't even just look at cars without the pettiness being forced on you , As Jed Clampet said pitiful just pitiful. |
