Hey chevymaher.
Im with you mate.
Build it the way you want it.....thats what im doing.
And the d sticks that dont like it
Can kiss my gritts too.

flash 03-22-2016 07:32 PM

Dont leave here because of how other sites are ,we like em all here .Our Malibu vert has it's original sheetmetal except for the SS hood but nothing else numbers matching .We built it to suit my wife and we enjoy it .My 72 Elky SS is a numbers car but is a smallblock so nobody likes it but I do .My 72 truck was built my way ,nothing left original but I love it . I like pretty much all old stuff with wheels .

chevymaher 03-22-2016 10:58 PM

I wouldn't leave here. You guys understand. I had a numbers car. I prefer my colors options and things like the stereo I worked a year to get in there. It is lost on some people. The numbers car isn't for me. I liked it but I wanted what I got now basically. What I really wanted in high school. My dads car souped up with stripes. Blue 68 with a vinyl top. I sat in that car for 6 years pretending to drive it.

Hell flash I hot Rod my Family car the van LOL. I love that thing. I used to get a red azz on the van site for liking a souped up 6 instead of putting a V-8 in it.
I like it because it is different. I had a million V-8's in my life I wanted to play with something else.

I was just mad and venting. This site is the best. And I like it just because there is a little of everything here. Numbers cars. Flat race cars. And hot street cars.

It was a life long dream to build this silly thing. It is exactly what I want. And I just got a temper when people act like that.

I was crying like a big baby and I am over it now.

Did some more disassembly on the 72' today...

paulywood 03-26-2016 07:22 PM

Transmission is in! Most of the associated lines, hoses and wires for both the motor and transmission are hooked up. But both the speedometer and kick down cables that I got were wrong. Also replaced some parts of the cooling system that were in rough shape. Took a day off of wiring to work on mechanical. Now I'm working on redoing the rear drum brakes. Made some progress on one side but far from done. I hope to have it ready to fire by the end of next weekend but not sure that will happen.

shadowgray396 03-26-2016 10:20 PM

Good luck, sounds like your getting close

The console is done and installed. All I have to do is use a heat gun around the gauges to smooth out the naugahyde. Today I finished makin a tray that goes into the storage compartment (no pic of that yet)

oakley723 03-27-2016 01:06 AM

Spent the day grinding, welding and grinding and welding.

Front passenger side lower cowl panel may be done with one section soon enough.

That looks nice.

shadowgray396 04-05-2016 09:20 PM

Took the car out to cars and coffee last Saturday. Came out of the place and was tempted to get on it, but decided to play it cool. Good thing I did, because a police officer was just around the corner with a radar gun.

carpoor 04-12-2016 04:03 PM

The entire passenger side of the car is stripped as of today. Going to spin the car around soon and start stripping the other side. I want this thing painted soon.

paulywood 04-15-2016 08:08 PM

Driveshaft and kick down cable are installed. Replaced the ignition and hooked that up. Rear brakes are done. Tried to gravity bleed the brakes and I didn't get any fluid to the rear. The brakes didn't work when I got it so I replaced a lot of parts but not the proportioning valve. Broke the line going to the rear and there was no fluid. So I got a new valve and removed the old one. Broke 2 lines taking the old one out but they are short front ones so I'll replace those tomorrow. Carb's all hooked up. Figured out I need new hoses for the power steering pump so my dream of starting it this weekend is on hold. Still have some wiring to finish up for the dash anyway. Rims came in so I'm picking them up tomorrow. Getting close!

chevymaher 04-22-2016 11:57 AM

I actually did something today. I was doing my yard work and things I got to do. It is a cloudy overcast day. I was taking a break and was playing in the chevelle. I sat in it playing the radio a minute and running different electrical stuff just playing. I hit the parking lights just to see the gauges. Hummmm the heater controls didn't light up. Had to replace the bulb. Well back to work now.

paulywood 05-01-2016 07:56 PM

Got my garage back Friday night and put the new rims and tires on. Saturday got a chance to work on it a little. Replaced the front brake lines and put a few new parts on the linkage that were missing. Still need a bushing for the bracket. Started on putting the power steering pump back together but need to find a better picture. Can't remember exactly how it goes:)

Ran the wiring from the dash to the rear, just need to connect them. Put the passenger side quarter window back in and got it mostly lined up. Missing a bracket on the regulator (didn't know that before) and the cover to access the window hardware. There was some damage in this area in the past and I've had to repair the sheet metal. Filed new grooves in the regulator shaft because they were rounded off. I could really use a new regulator.

Decided to throw the lock in the trunk and it took me a good hour to figure that out. Made a harness for the instrument cluster. Checked the continuity on it and put it on the dash this morning.

I need to get the dash in so I can start it. I think I have everything I need to do it now. I need to get/make a plug for the convertible top switch. I'm not sure what happened to it. But I can do that and the radio after the dash is in. Have a couple of random electrical connections to make for the wiper motor and coolant temperature sensor. Hopefully next weekend I'll turn the key!

chevymaher 05-14-2016 10:59 AM

Well scary as it is. It is raining so I can't cut grass or work on the driveway. I putting in a extra parking spot in front. So I don't have to play musical cars in the street moving things. But I digress..........

I haven't done squat to the chev in a long time. But today I have no work and can't do my duty around the house so I get a free day. I sanding and painting the floor hump for the floor pan so it matches the console boot dealy.

One more year of college for the wife and it all over but the crying. Responsibilities suck when your trying to funnel money into a project LOL. I keep seeing it sitting there. Playing with the stereo and washing and waxing it. Gritting my teeth wondering. Am I going to live long enough to get to drive it LOL.

But that is why it is called a hobby i guess.

shadowgray396 05-15-2016 11:28 PM

Haven't even uncovered mine in over 6 weeks. Just to busy at work and at home. Wanted to take it out to a car show Saturday, but it rained most of the day.

paulywood 05-16-2016 12:28 PM

Rebuilt the carb and installed/removed starters for most of the day before I think I finally have the hi torque starting installed and working correctly. Cleaned up some surface rust on the front bow of the convertible top and reinstalled it. Now I can try to get it started since I fixed my no fuel problem. Hopefully:)

mestorod70 05-22-2016 04:04 PM

I made it red today

It looks great .

Ms Grumpy 05-29-2016 10:06 PM

I didn't take my car out this weekend cause it was too damn humid and hot. I know that I missed a couple of good shows but a black on black car makes some of those shows hard to do. Especially when they are an hour in each direction with 88 degrees and 85% humidity.

I know I am a weenie. lol Worst part is that David did have AC put into my car 3 years ago and I did the worst thing possible...I didn't use it cause I like having the windows open.

Ken Hayes 05-30-2016 12:30 PM

We went to the "Hot Rod Palooza" in Wayne on Saturday. Got there around 7:30am and left at noon because it was too damn hot. Got home in the A/C, Judy laid on the couch and I sat in the recliner and ZAP we were gone.

Ms Grumpy 05-30-2016 09:49 PM

It was really humid on Saturday. I am glad that you guys left and made sure that your health was more important. Hope you had some fun for the time you were there.

flash 05-31-2016 10:19 AM

Im driving Joan's Malivert for a few days ,been driving my 72 truck and the Vert is getting jealous .

RBeckman 05-31-2016 02:08 PM

Finally got the Chevelle out of hibernation and it started right up and no issues.

chevymaher 06-12-2016 08:57 AM

Poor ol chev is really dusty again. I gonna have to break down and clean it again.

shadowgray396 06-12-2016 11:19 PM

Tried to take mine out today. Won't turn over even with a jump box. Think the battery is toast. Get the battery test tomorrow.

Ken Hayes 06-13-2016 12:50 PM

I put a yellow top Optima in mine last spring (2015) cuz the old one froze to death over the winter. Best move I ever did, this one has 850 cold cranking amps.

shadowgray396 06-14-2016 10:25 PM

Had a red top optima, with battery tender on it. But I left it off a few months back and drained the battery completely dead. It never recovered. New one is around 180 dollars.

Hank70SS 06-15-2016 07:34 AM

I've got an old fashioned lead/acid battery that's probably over 10 years old and it's still going strong. I keep an maintainer on it over the winter.

chevymaher 06-15-2016 11:43 AM

I know it is funny because it dont run. But I detailing the POS. Been 2 hours so far. About to wipe the wax off then do windows and dash. Gotta look good sitting there at least.

Now you know why it is taking so long. One thing after another puts it on the back burner. But that is why it is a hobby they say. My buddy says it is my therapy.

Hank70SS 06-15-2016 01:46 PM

Yup, just a hobby. I don't mind working on the Chevelle. The other cars, that's a different story. If the Chevelle doesn't run at the end of the day, no big deal. It's not my daily driver and there's always tomorrow.

shadowgray396 06-15-2016 11:06 PM

Not the battery. Wonder if my ground now is the issue. Could be a starter also I guess. When I try to start it nothing happens, doesn't even click.

carpoor 06-16-2016 08:25 AM

Solenoid maybe?

chevymaher 06-16-2016 02:32 PM

Buddy brought me some wax over. The old style that takes the paint off type. Got to cut the grass tomorrow but I imagine by the week end i be rubbing on the paint some more. See if I can squeeze a little more shine out of it. Here is a few pics from yesterdays work. It takes lousy pictures indoors needs to be in the sun again. Reflections hide the silly colors.
I been concentrating on getting the rubbing compound out of the creases. Removing buffing swirls. Just you know playing. But at least i working on it again instead of looking at it. I need to tape it off and undercoat it and the tank so I can put that in.

I think it looks mighty fine .

Hank70SS 06-16-2016 05:46 PM

John said it all, beautiful car.

Hank70SS 06-16-2016 05:51 PM

I finally got around to rebuilding a horn, both of mine are dead. Need to rebuild another then hopefully Ray can throw them in his blasting cabinet and clean them up. Also replaced the stock 70 SS steering wheel with a comfort grip wheel. Picked up the hub and horn button last fall at Frankenmuth Autofest then winter happened.

chevymaher 06-16-2016 05:52 PM

Thank you all. I doing it as I can. It will get done one day.

shadowgray396 06-18-2016 03:04 PM

That looks really good.
