I will have to borrow a GoPro from a friend and figure out how to post it.
I started pricing "shelf cams", and the cost is getting up there. I am going to call Chris Straub Friday and see what he can get me for similar money. |
It is amazing how dirty these things get just sitting there. I and vacuuming in the trunk and interior and underneath. Then lay under it with a bucket of water and a rag. Wow cobwebs out the wazoo.
I can only imagine one day getting caught out in the rain. Take weeks to clean it. |
My buddy called yesterday come over and help him take his hood off. He is putting another set of heads on. He has had a set of reworked heads that are ported and 2.02 new valves. So we shot the bull and tinkered taking it apart.
It isn't the prettiest car but everything works. 4 speed posi. But take into account he paid 200 bucks for it. Has less than 500 bucks total in it. And has driven it everyday for 30 years. He is a notorious slacker. He paid me 3 years ago to do the bodywork and paint it. Just to lazy to let me do it. He just wants to drive it. He gave me 2 muncie 4 speeds and the shifter for mine in exchange for the verbal agreement i would do it, But he is my buddy I would have done it for free and he knows it. Just leave it at my house for the bodywork a while, And here lies the problem. He can't drive it anytime he wants with it sitting in the garage here LOL. If he ever gets around to letting me do it. It will be blue with white stripes. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...psz0ugmdki.jpg |
Finally got the Chevelle out for the second time this summer and took it down to the coast for a car show. Great weather and a fun show. Show was right on the bay.
http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps5pcgncda.jpg New truck worked great also. http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/y...pspe6knlop.jpg Car at the show. They put me up front. http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/y...psd5avdaww.jpg Always fun to beat the Mopar's http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/y...psyk2bwmhh.jpg |
Congrats Ray looks like you had fun.

Cars make you do strange things. I detailed the chev 2 days ago. Now I did the interior floor that be under carpet. So Far I have spent 3 hours laying undr it and scrubbing things nobody will ever see. I bet there bondo dust under there from 7 years ago. Taking a coffee break then back under there.
I never in my life thought I would lay under a car for hours washing it. I must be getting teched with age. |
For the longest time every time I did a burnout in my Chevelle and it started wheel hopping I would have a line of sand under the dash and in my shoes from when the car was sandblasted 20 years ago. No more sand now :)

I have forgotten to mention that I picked up some paint for the 72'. Going back with code 26 Mulsane Blue. Also making the switch from ppg to matrix.
|
Not mine, but spent a few hours working on my folks 72' Malibu. Most of my time was consumed by cutting out rust. I did some sandblasting afterwards. I started patching and they told me, "you know that it is almost two O' clock, right?" That said, I changed my clothes and am going to a late lunch with them.
|
It is 50's here today a little chilly. So the inside kept 2 the van and the chev got baths.
Had a few people come over to look at it. Can I bring so an so and his freind over to look at your car. Sure I am down here working anyway knock yourself out. I never would have believed people would make a trip to see a POS that don't even run. I guess looking like it runs is good enough. Things change I guess. They just so old people are just happy to see one that isn't getting junked. Today's honorable mention was I had a 4 dr like that a long time ago. I am sure that is why he wanted to see it he had one. |
I about to actually do something to it for a change of pace.
I been debating on bedliner of undercoating for the bottom. Right now I am running the compressor and about to scuff the tank and straps. Put some hot rod black chassis coat on them before i undercoat or whatever I use to cover them. Under the car has epoxy primer then POR then 2 coats of chassis paint. It hasn't rusted in 10 years but I just want it done before it ever sees weather out there. I think the bottom of this thing has more paint than the top LOL. Edit: 2;30 now. Done hanging from the ceiling in the garage for a while to harden. |
Boredom and a little extra cash in the bank is dangerous....
I ordered a bunch of parts for the 69' Bu last night. It will take at least a few months for me to recover. I have engine parts coming from Summit and Rock Auto, and transmission/clutch linkage parts coming from ground up. I plan to fix the floor pan this winter while it is too cold to paint. Then the body will come off so I can restore/rebuild the chassis and suspension. I have been dragging my feet, finally decided to get after it. |
Nearly everything has arrived, the cam is on backorder.
|
I guess Summit found a cam, the tracking number says it will be delivered on the 6th.
I better get my truck back together so I can run the block over to be hot tanked and cam bearings installed. |
Finally made what I feel is progress, I spent several hours at my folks yesterday. I cleaned up the garage and dug my 72' out. Now I have plenty of room around around the car to work on it. I decided to take it down to bare metal, I just don't trust the previous work that has been done.
I still need to finish tearing down the short block so I can get the block to the machine shop. |
Cam kit is here, I guess I better get to work.

Chev is Santas Sled this time of year. My son knows don't touch the chev under penalty of law. Which brings up another point. I heard a pop as my son was playing the other day. I said did you hit the chev. I hear a low tone yea sorry. I said be carefully and stop running around it. Kids what you gonna do LOL.
So the trunk gets filled as we get the things Santa will bring. Tradition form when I was a kid. Dad used to use our 68 for the same thing. He thinks I didn't know. We got a little playstation new controls for it and games in there so far. He is getting Gran Tourismo 6 this year I am so excited ah er he is so excited. |

Still ZERO progress on my cars, but got something done on my folk's 72' Malibu today. A good friend of mine has access to an individual sandblasting machine. He got it all blasted, and we cleaned it all up. Then he got a heavy coat of epoxy primer on it.

Well starting on some winter repairs. Got the dome light and clock working again. Now it's time to see if I can hook up the under dash light kit I bought 3 years ago. Radio also has never been hooked up. I may pull the dash and get the tach also repaired

It wasn't today, it was yesterday. But we have been trying to sell off a lot of stuff before we move and of course David wanted at the stuff in front of my car. And instead of starting her I just had my son help me push her back a few feet.
I will tell you just getting in made me want a warm day just to start her up and drive around. I bet I am not the only one. |
You are not the only one. Texas? Did I miss something? When are you moving there? How is David doing? We've missed you around here.
|
We are doing a Texas road trip in April and yes I will be taking Joan's Chevelle. Got to get a few things done first .
|
I have a van site I go to. For whatever reason I don't do a durango site. I looked checking for a problem once they were snide and clueless. I just left and never went back LOL no help and nasty attitudes.
I caught myself saying I need to go check in home. Meaning this site for the chev. You are good down to earth people here. Thank you for being friendly and accepting anything other that original cars. Just wanted to show some appreciation for this site and the people here. I been pondering lately on the chev. I been wanting to do a little home brew sealing on areas that are rust prone. Inside the fenderwells in the rear mainly. I got the rest whopped I think. That is the only place water could get in still. Not that i plan on driving it in the rain. But I do plan to drive it as a normal car once it ever gets done. So I am sure I will get caught out in it from time to time. It has been eating at me lately it is just sitting. I am burning to do something else to it. Who am I kidding it is killing me seeing it sit there. I am ready to drive it already and cry over some rock chips. |
This is a great site with great people .

My brother came over to borrow my tile saw. And last time he saw my car was after it was just painted. So he never saw the stereo and all the chrome and top. So we had a little car show going on.
He concentrated on getting his running first before paint. I had mine painted first. He got his painted last year and already tore his motor up. Something is wrong it is throwing a smoke screen and leaking like a sieve. He will take it back out and do whatever to fix it. He still has alot of stuff to do I already got done. Weather stripping his don't have windows in it yet. Cozy wings need put in. I am completing the little tedious stuff first. I got most of the tedious stuff done. His car is my cars sibling. We got them both at the same time. They spent 10 years sitting next to each other. They are soulmates kinda. Anywho this is the car I spent years with doing it at the same time I was doing mine. Both cars were literally junk when we got them. Now they both look good. Even I am looking through biased eyes. Anywho I thought you guys might like to see the other POS that took up a good section of my life. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/...psvsyqxj96.jpg |
Well we got the verdict. Is is a supercharged engine and obviously it had predetonation. It ate 2 top ring lands. New pistons and a knock sensor set up is on the way. It isn't his first supercharger so it isnt like he is a novice. It was just getting hot no sound. he gonna see about that this time LOL.
|
Well i finally did something anyway. I ordered a case of undercoating. So whenever that comes in I will be buying stock in 3M again by wrapping the car in a cocoon to get that done.
And what the chev don't use will go to the van and truck. Then I can get the gas tank in and get that out of my way by the computer area. |
Well it arrived. The undercoating. I reckon i will go fetch it tomorrow or sunday. When ever I can get wife and son here together at the same time so I can get out a few hours.
Yea I get to do something again. Cocoon city here we come. |

I actually got to do something to my car today. I bought a cowl induction hood for it roughly six years ago. My car only had a domed hood, which I donated to my folks for their Pro Tour 72'.
I stripped the paint off and took it down to bare metal. I sealed it up with some 2K primer. There were multiple layers of paint and primer. The top coat of paint on it was tough stuff. I am almost wondering if it was imron applied in the 80s. |
Sure looks alot warmer where you are carpoor. Or you just like cold. Looks good congrats.
I picked up my case of undercoating on the way to the church festival. When I do it I will get some before pics of the bottom. It looks good like under the hood. But i will be masking a while. And finding time it will be in burst around working. But at least I get to make a little more progress. Get the tank in and just piddle around some. |
Well scary stuff going on. Wheels on the chev about to come off put it on jackstands. Start masking the silly thing off.
