Been doing body work now that the humidity isn't so bad. Passenger side quarter and deck lid are pretty much done. Working on the passenger side fender currently. Also been hand sanding all of the hard to get to areas... drip rails, a pillars, etc. Fun... Not.

I hate body work.

mestorod70 09-29-2017 09:07 AM

Put a new battery in mine.
The last optima went 7 years...so got another yellow top.
I need to re fit the hood and paint it.
The weather is starting to cool a tad to where body work is bearable.
Still havent put the front door panels on yet...why i dont remember.

carpoor 10-12-2017 03:55 PM

Finished the passenger side fender Monday. Haven't been able to get to it since. Kind of dragging my feet, waiting for lower humidity weather. I want this thing to be right.

mestorod70 11-06-2017 09:43 AM

Bit more work done.

Hood was re test fitted then primed and blocked.
Then painted on the underside.
Flipped it over and did the top side then sanded 800 grit
The stencil kit was a pain..but got laid and masked.
Shot the white base..then unmasked for 3 coats clear.
Cut and buff in a few days.
Next project is to replace the antenna wire..its not making contact.
Then the gages on the cowl need moved and lines rerouted.
Perhaps some wiper arms.
A few pics.

I got the wipers to work and not hit the glass hood...what a pain.
The gauges on the cowl fit perfect under the hood and the
NOS purge line fits too.
Installed the grill trim and found a licence plate from my stash.
Also did the hood pins and cables for the clips.

chevymaher 11-12-2017 02:08 PM

lookin good congrats

Its the closest thing to SHARP that the CA DMV had when it was ordered.
I think my wife had it on one of her cars back in the 70s
1970 was the first year of the blue plate in CA...69 and before were black.
So since i dragged the car out here from CA when i moved...it gets a CA plate.

FlintTony 11-14-2017 03:20 AM

That's cool.

shadowgray396 11-16-2017 02:21 PM

Looks like I get to have my master cylinder rebuilt and replace a rubber power steering hose this winter. Got leaks on both.

Started whipping the hood into shape last week...

I had to fill in a few pin holes with the mig welder, then do some grinding to get those spots looking right. Skim coated it, starting sanding it a few days later. Haven't had time to touch it since. Both doors and the roof are all I have left to rough in. Then... I get to cut the driver's side quarter off and dig into that mess.

Your just a hard working fool. Get er done. Looks good.

carpoor 11-22-2017 06:44 PM

I wish I had more time for it, nothing ever goes as planned. I will keep pushing until the weather stops any progress. Then it's time to do some metal work on the 69'.

Ratty Muscle Cars is having an event March 10th in Alabama. I keep thinking about thrashing on the car (the 69') and try to take it up there. I believe I have enough junk and new parts laying around to put it together.

chevymaher 11-25-2017 09:17 AM

Actually it was yesterday. I spend several hours cleaning and waxing her.

i took the car out for a joy ride on sunday.
checked tire pressure first; fat rears are sitting at 20psi
topped of the fuel tank for more weight over the tires; but
even rolling into the throttle, the car will roll about 20foot out
then the tires start leaving black marks, then 2nd gear hits
tires are still clawing for traction, i got 11''of tread on each tire
427 runs good, but really roars with 12#'s of boost kicking in ;)
kinda looks like this: taking off in Drive & rolling into it

Hood is primed, about to go work on the roof skin.

carpoor 12-17-2017 07:18 PM

We had a cold snap recently, haven't gotten much done. But, the roof skin is shaping up nicely. Bought the rest of the paint, that hurt the walllet.

chevymaher 01-06-2018 06:20 AM

Well I finished the barge interior yesterday. I am a lost soul wandering the earth now with no purpose now. No major project until warm weather.

Chev is covered with saw dust form doing that. So I am about to head down pop the hood charge the battery and turn the stereo on in it and clean the poor baby up. Van to but this isn't a van site nobody cares LOL.

shadowgray396 01-28-2018 09:55 AM

Starting repairing a leaky master cylinder. I think the time had come to sell the Chevelle. I really want to get a nice driver Chevelle convertible. Doesn't have be an SS, just don't want a rust bucket or another major project.

flash 01-28-2018 10:43 AM

I started tearing down my 427, found some carnage. The #7 cylinder will need a sleeve. And the pistons look like some junk they had laying around, so new pistons are on the list too. Can't compmain though, the price was right... free.

flash 02-09-2018 09:08 PM

I walked by the Chevelle and El Camino while getting some kindling for starting a fire but just not yet ready .Im in full truck mode as Joan was not as involved with that .

carpoor 02-23-2018 11:18 AM

Finally stopped dragging my feet and got on with it...

You don't ever slow down Brian!

carpoor 02-24-2018 07:13 AM

In the words of Tom Petty, "you never slow down, you never grow old"

carpoor 03-02-2018 01:40 PM

 Much better. Still have a day or so of work to get it all burned in.

More welding... almost time to use the grinder.

http://i.imgur.com/PkI2Kl0.jpg

FlintTony 03-07-2018 03:34 AM

Making progress, for sure.

carpoor 03-13-2018 07:30 PM

A little closer, still much to do.
