I wish I had done a full 1/4. My father was dead set against it.

carpoor 03-27-2018 02:33 PM

Getting there, finally done welding and grinding.

Found these gems...rot holes packed with filler.

The first one is the driver's door. The second one is the lip of the wheel well, behind the wheel opening molding.

FlintTony 03-27-2018 05:39 PM

That was a ton of welding and grinding. Is your back sore?

carpoor 03-27-2018 08:32 PM

My knees and feet bother me more than anything. Hopefully skim coat the entire panel by the end of the week. I am not super experienced with block sanding and getting panels laser straight. My dad is going to do what he can, and my friend with the Fairlane is going to do the rest. I need to pull both doors off and start on them.

mestorod70 03-28-2018 10:37 AM

Just a quick question.
Why are you skim coating the panel.

carpoor 03-28-2018 08:08 PM

Most of it gets sanded off, but new panel or not - they are never perfectly smooth and straight. Easier than just spot coating it.

chevymaher 03-29-2018 06:08 AM

Right when you strip a perfect factory car. There is bondo everywhere. They skim coated them before they painted them.

carpoor 04-03-2018 06:42 AM

Skim coated the quarter after work, going to eat breakfast. Then head over to start sanding...

carpoor 04-06-2018 02:44 PM

Ahh yes... block sanding hell. :(

chevymaher 04-06-2018 06:57 PM

Keep at it. It will be over when ever. LOL I say that because I block sanded mine over and over for years. I am a little anal tho.

It is worth it in the end tho.

carpoor 04-24-2018 04:49 PM

Not much new, I hit it with some black primer and blocked it again because I felt low spots. Yup! Sure enough. Going to skim it and finish it by hand.

chevymaher 04-25-2018 03:54 AM

Been there done that. I sure don't miss it. It is worth it in the end tho. Carry on Marine.

FlintTony 04-25-2018 04:06 AM

Man, you have come a long ways on that project!

carpoor 04-25-2018 06:06 AM

Thanks, I really hoped it would be farther along though. I am going on an actual vacation in about two weeks. So nothing will get done that entire week. Looks like I won't be painting it next month. :(

dconnor 04-26-2018 02:04 AM

Done changing the master cylinders.

Where are you from KDW? Are you doing a full retso on a 66?

Ms Grumpy 05-11-2018 03:16 AM

Registered my car and applied for temporary clearance onto Lackland AFB for a car show Friday on the base.

carpoor 05-11-2018 02:54 PM

Not even close to being ready for paint.

But, the show must go on...

The driver's door is almost ready for final block sand and paint.

Ms Grumpy 05-25-2018 10:03 PM

Tonight we went to the local Friday night spot, Biff Buzby's Burgers. It was one of the first car cruise places we found when we got to Texas. The only problem is that it is getting into summer and the temps are climbing. It was 86 degrees at 8:45pm. I am still not used to the heat. Not looking forward to 100 by wednesday.

carpoor 06-02-2018 08:20 PM

Added to the collection...

Bought a 1968 Malibu 2dr hardtop tonight. Pictures to follow, should be picking it up Tuesday.

FlintTony 06-03-2018 04:26 AM

Man oh man Brian, you have enough projects to keep busy for years! Is the new one rust-free?

No sir, but very solid. The worst is around the rear window, and it needs a deck lid. Floors are 99.9% rust free. Very complete car, 307/powerglide, ps & ac. Atlanta built car, butternut yellow.

Bought it to flip, but if I can't get what I want... it stays.

FlintTony 06-04-2018 03:58 AM

My first Chevelle was a 307, powerglide , 68 Malibu. I put a 350/4 speed in it right away. After getting way too many tickets, close to losing my drivers license, I sold it to my brother and bought a 72 Ford econoline van. The van was my first brand new vehicle.

flash 06-04-2018 05:39 AM

A Butternut Yellow 68 is a great combination , cant wait to see this one .

carpoor 06-04-2018 03:12 PM

Tony, I have some 350s laying around and a rebuilt M20.

Flash, it's a s****y green now. But the door jambs and underside of the deck lid are the original color.

carpoor 06-05-2018 06:49 PM

Got it home today, what an adventure...

Looks to be in pretty good shape starting out.

flash 06-05-2018 08:33 PM

And it appears to have the front license plate bracket , a very hard to find item.

It is. Around the rear window is the worst area. But, they make everything now. The dash has some rust at the base of the windshield too. The floors are very good.

LOL it is a 68 that was from the factory wasn't it.

carpoor 06-08-2018 08:01 AM

What is strange, my 69 had a vinyl top - but is nearly rust free around the rear window. The floors are rough though compared to the 68.

I remember that around the back window on my car was really, really bad. Part of the reason that we went with the vinyl top those first few years. At least your floors are very good.

I still need to dig through the car, but right now I seem to be missing all of the stainless for the drip rails. Possibly a lower molding or two.

Belden Speed makes all of the patch panels now. I remember how time consuming it was to repair the rear window area on the 72 Monte Carlo - back about 13 or 14 years ago.

Drip rails get destroyed coming off they are gone. I do have all lower moldings. Eyebrow on back. Only one of the SS on the rear of the quarter ones. I got a new set of eyebrows.

shadowgray396 06-11-2018 02:42 PM

Need to get the Master Cylinder back on the car so I can drive it. Been to busy to deal with it and need a friend to come over to help to bleed the system.
