Not that I care about matching numbers for ths 68, but I decided to look. Sure enough, they do not match. However, it is a 68 307 2bbl - out of a B body. (Similar scenario with my 69) What are the odds?!
Looking over the trim tag, 4th week of May build date, late production car. YY exterior paint - Butternut Yellow, 754 interior trim - Medium Gold imitation leather. |
Mine had the numbers matching 307 2 bbl and trans when I got it. I took them out and it hasn't had a engine since. Motor laid in the grass until who knows where it went. Take that 307 LOL. I do still have the powerglide.
I do know my cars history and colors. Blue hardtop white and black interior. Power steering and air. |

You do know how to live there.

How's the sanding going Brian? Getting close yet?
|
Finally got the Master Cylinder rebuilt and installed yesterday. Bled the brakes and drove out to a car show. Now may be the time to think about selling it. I just don't drive it much anymore. I had to laugh yesterday when a 2018 Dodge won best muscle car. There was a lot of a classic muscle cars there nicer them mine. I don't expect to win, just went to have some car time.

My car is sitting in the garage waiting for the nice weather again.
Not to many folks do car shows in this heat and humidity. Good thing is that some shows are requiring 1990 and earlier. If i wanted to look at brand new vettes id be at the chevy dealer. |

I can't help myself and usually yell, "Look! A used car lot." They love it. :D |

I have a ton of welding to do on the vw and his 72 Malibu in the meantime. |
Removed some of the old rubber off the rear tires. Put down about 100' of rubber starting at my neighbor Darrel's house. That's about it. At least it was easy, not much effort at all.

Finally got my title for the 68 Malibu from the state. Started advertising it, we'll see what happens...

They have various for sale groups. Some are Chevelle or GM speciffic.
|
I sand blasted the hinges and put some etching primer on them yesterday. (For my 72) Hoping to put the driver's door back on Friday. I need to get the passenger door off and done next. I have decided that the garage is too cramped and dirty to get the kind of paint job I want. I sold my spare LQ9 six liter last weekend. Going to use that money to farm out the paint job. (Begrudingly. I like to do do things myself)
I also stripped and blasted a few spots on the 68. Going to do some rust repair here and there. I'll just keep adjusting the price accordingly. |
Take the cash from selling the engine and build a small building, just for paint work? Have a canopy put up with sidewalls?

No room for that, it is literally a full house. My childhood friend is selling his 66 Fairlane now... it's over there too. It would appear that I am being tasked with marketing that car too.
I picked up a set of 15X7 Rally wheels with trim last night for $120. They have tires that hold air. These are for my 69. Going for this look... |
I spent a few hours putting roll arounds on my 68 that actually hold air.
|
I drove the 72 Malivert some today just to keep the battery charged up . Wish I could say I enjoyed it but just not there yet , maybe someday.

Started it

Gathered more parts...
http://i.imgur.com/Kic7Nnx.jpg From left to right... NOS 6223 casting 396/427 steel crank, outer window felts, speedometer cable, front brake lines in stainless. The crank is for the 427 going in the 69, the rest is for the 72. |
Way to many mega pixels
|
Picked up a Holley list 3310 carb for the 69. Good core to rebuild. Still picking up pieces here and there as I find deals.
|
My battery died. I need to get a new one.

A set of nice, original exhaust manifolds fell into my lap today. Got them from a guy who removed them from his then new L78 SS396 Nova. Got a great deal on them, one more part closer to having everything for my 69 Chevelle project.

Picked up a nice trunk lid for the 68 today...
|
Spent some time after work yesterday repairing the "new" deck lid...
http://i.imgur.com/uEYmDJ8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0r7CJZC.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ttLyncW.jpg The original deck lid. Never saw one rot from tbe inside out like this one. http://i.imgur.com/fI5tlSM.jpg |
Rusting from the inside out is quite common in older cars.
Thats the largest trunk lid ive ever seen |
If it was a northern car, I might not be so surprised. But, FL car since new. Came out of the Atlanta assembly plant. The floors, quarters, doors, etc are really nice. The worst was/is the trunk lid, trunk floor, around the rear window, and the driver's side fender.
I finished the welding Tuesday and gave it a coat of dura glass + primer. Then stuck it on the car, doesn't line up very well. It is going to take some patience to get it where I want it. http://i.imgur.com/LF29fC2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6Kzv6Ym.jpg |
Some rust repair panels for the 68 arrived today. Rear deck filler panel and lower fender patches.
|
Man, you have a lot of projects going on at the same time. Reminds me of when I would have 3 or 4 full builds on Harleys. I tried to get one done before I attacked the next one, but got held up a few times waiting on paint or parts. I quit doing my own paint work. It was too time consuming.
|
Basically, my 72 is on hold because of paint... I am waiting for the heat and humidity to lift before I do final body work and paint.
My dad sold the 72 Lemans and got rid of the vw. But, bought a 63 Nova vert. It was a running car, but very poorly executed. So... yeah, that car is half apart currently. ::sigh:: |
Dad sure keeps you busy Brian! It's gotta be nice to be able to spend time with him though.
|
I enjoy our time in the shop together, but really wish we could finish a car for him.
More parts arrived for the 68 today... dash repair panel, and trunk weatherstrip channels. |
Started welding up some small holes in the left quarter panel.
http://i.imgur.com/dnlQHp6.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8M478yE.jpg Found a little "surprise" in the drivers side fender http://i.imgur.com/ZD2M2yO.jpg The passenger side is almost perfect. http://i.imgur.com/CeLUWxJ.jpg |
Finished the lip of the quarter panel today...
