Moving right along. Lots of tedious work there.

carpoor 10-08-2018 12:28 PM

Went to the local LKQ today... picked up all the brake parts I needed for the 68, and a Jeep GC box for the car as well.

chevymaher 10-08-2018 02:16 PM

Got a new battery to replace the deceased one in mine.

carpoor 10-10-2018 08:59 PM

Got a killer deal on some drivetrain parts for the 68...

Rebuilt 03 LQ4 6.0L, Comp XR275 cam, 918 springs, etc, etc. 05 4L80E with 86k miles, 3500 stall converter NIB, LS swap mounts, stainless LS swap headers, aluminum LS swap radiator, misc. stuff like the acc drive, intake, injectors, TB, etc. And a freshly rebuilt 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear.

Talk about a HUGE head start on my project. Everything but the transmission is new in the box or rebuilt. The trans is clean and fluid looks great. The engine already has a GMPP hot rod oil pan. I need to get my ass in gear and finish the welding ASAP.

FlintTony 10-11-2018 03:44 AM

Sounds great. Did someone give up on a project that they started? Does that combo need a computer to make it run?

carpoor 10-11-2018 01:39 PM

Yes, and yes. I have an uncut harness and a PCM out of an 02 Avalanche. Going to have the harness cut down and simplified. A friend of mine owns a shop and can handle the tuning.

carpoor 10-12-2018 01:19 PM

Did not do much today, pulled the hood off and set it aside. Had good intentions of bolting on the glass hood I bought, but ran into a few issues.

Figured out one of the reasons why it was so cheap...

http://i.imgur.com/Sy6n91u.jpg

I ended up cutting it open to remove the bolt and nut. Then I welded a nut into a piece of 1X1 box tubing. Glassed that into place. Then used some duraglass to stick the piece back on and dress the edges of the cuts.

Should be ready to bolt on tomorrow.

Seeing this car brings back memories.

I keep meaning to ask, got any spare parts that you'd be willing to sell? I would like to find a driver's side tail light housing. And a plastic dash housing.

chevymaher 10-17-2018 07:40 PM

Dash housings are junk and destroyed by the age our cars are. I bought a new one. I tossed out 3 I had. I got chrome left down there. I had a tailpiece to one side I will look and see if it is still down there.

You car is the same color mine was. It is actually blue. It just fades into a green. I do have a good trunk lid. Lock area is there but bent up a little. Needs fixed and could be easily.

carpoor 10-18-2018 03:22 PM

My car was butternut yellow factory, the green it is now... no idea of the origin. It looks like a gumby green. I am going back with butternut yellow. I think it will stand out in a sea of red, black, etc.

chevymaher 10-19-2018 05:56 AM

LOL I cant get away from the green faded blue cars.

This one is originally blue.

Another project.

chevymaher 10-20-2018 11:56 AM

This is what I got now. Just before I really did anything. I primered a couple things and drove it way back then. I was just showing what color the original blue fades to.

carpoor 10-30-2018 04:59 PM

Did some more patching on the 68 today, pssenger rear quarter.

http://i.imgur.com/6igBxIB.jpg

Left off here today, still have more welding and grinding to finish it.

What did you do about all the rust on the
inner wheel wells.

I cut those areas out and welded in a patch as well. Didn't get pictures of every step, was in a rush that day. I plan to scrape the undercoating off and blast the inner wheel well to check for anything I might have missed.

carpoor 11-09-2018 03:06 PM

I finished welding up that patch on the passenger quarter today. Then my usual coat of duraglass.

More sheet metal repair panels were delivered this week. I'll just keep picking at it until it is all roughed in. I have an optimistic goal of having all of the metal work done by January.

Will do, I have been wanting to drool all over that 427 Nova.

FlintTony 11-10-2018 05:55 AM

That would be a looooong drive to see the Nova. It's still in Michigan.

Doh!!! Well that sucks.

chevymaher 11-17-2018 11:48 AM

LOL I never post much since it was painted. Today I spent all morning detailing her. Wash wax and moisturize the top. Did the wheels.

She dont age at all looks like the day she was painted.

carpoor 11-22-2018 01:19 PM

Back to work on the 72 finally, did some block sanding this morning.

dconnor 11-22-2018 11:54 PM

Done replacing the front brake lines. I also replaced the spark plugs.

carpoor 11-23-2018 03:04 PM

Went to the rod run in Daytona today. Was able to find an intake for my 69 427, got a front fender for the 68. Was not able to find a tail light housing for the 68 though.

chevymaher 12-05-2018 03:29 AM

Well the boat is pretty much finished now for all intents and purposes. I am getting a new motor next month. I just put all new seals in the outdrive and pressure tested it. So I been sitting on my hands bored.

I built a 327 and used my cars original crank in it. It has solid lifters and a Z-28 cross ram intake. Then the car was looking so good I wanted to do a big block. Back then it didn't matter I would be doing bodywork for 10 years.

Anywho I talked to my brother that old motor is on the stand still in his garage. He talked me into it. It is coming home and i gonna put it in the car. At least it will run and run good. It has a silly solid lifter cam like I liked in my youth. But it will sound wicked as all get out.

I miss working on the chev. I need to get a can of orange paint and get to polishing on this intake. I got to rebuild the carbs and make linkages. we got places to go and people to see.

carpoor 12-05-2018 03:25 PM

Glad to hear it, hopefully you'll be driving your car come spring. I am going to save the crank, rods, sheetmetal from the 307... and scrap the rest. I have a couple of spare 350 blocks, etc. Doubt I will ever do anything with it, but who knows? I always wanted to do a 66-67 Chevy II with a high-winding small block and a 4 speed.

dconnor 12-05-2018 08:20 PM

Today I replaced the front brake lines and installed my new kumho tires. I also ordered a master cylinder.

carpoor 12-09-2018 05:21 PM

This came in the mail today. Getting close to having every last piece to fix the body.

carpoor 12-21-2018 06:41 PM

Got some 2k primer on a few panels this past Wednesday.

http://i.imgur.com/R6flyz3.jpg

I'll be block sanding this stuff on Christmas day, supposed to be 73-74 degrees.

FlintTony 12-22-2018 06:34 AM

I'm ready for it to warm back up. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

carpoor 01-01-2019 03:19 PM

I took advantage of the weather and the day off. Been block sanding all of the pieces, gave them two more coats today. And gave the main body its first two coats. I'll keep at it until the weather shuts me down.

Get er done

chevymaher 01-30-2019 03:10 AM

Well Revelle issued a 68 chevelle model. I was up doing snow duty on the boat so I was looking and found it. I bought one before prices go though the roof like the die cast version did.

Wifey and i been talking. Once i get caught up on boat and truck maintenence. This summer I going to start buying and putting interior in the cheve a piece at a time. But it will be moving along again.

Now that she out of college and working we getting caught up on things and the chev is coming back into focus.

carpoor 02-15-2019 02:18 PM

FINALLY!

Got some color on the car today. I am in love. (Mulsane Blue) Did the under side of the deck lid, belt line of the drivers door, edges of the hood, trunk gutter and hinges. I did the drivers side door jamb, but it will have to be redone. I missed some water from wet sanding - it made a little mess in a few spots. Getting excited about this old car again.

Some base coat...

Last one, different lighting. Basically shut off the lights, closed one garage door... and let the flash on my camera phone do the rest

FlintTony 02-17-2019 05:15 AM

That color is going to look great.

flash 02-17-2019 11:35 AM

carpoor 02-17-2019 04:33 PM

carpoor 02-22-2019 10:39 AM
