Thank you Tony, I try.

Cleaned the interior, and ordered a magnaflow muffler at 4wheelonline to quiet down my exhaust.

Get the longest case you can fit. I went with 18" case mufflers on my 72. Factory shows 19.5" is what they had stock. I have a 22" case Magnaflow on my truck with two Dynomax race bullets in front of it. Killed the rasp and 99% of the drone. LS engines are known for both - rasp and drone.

Been pecking at it here and there. On the home stretch though. Passenger door is off, bodywork started. Rehung drivers door. And sanding the passenger door jamb.

The toolbag that butchered the bodywork on my car even smeared bondo in the door jambs... WHY?!

Took a break from it today and picked up a Craigslist score, a set of factory 69-72 disc brake spindles/steering arms/backing plates. Going to need them for my 69.

chevymaher 03-16-2019 07:46 AM

Looking good there.

carpoor 03-21-2019 05:16 PM

Put in a few hours today, trying to get everything ready for primer. Fixed a few small holes under the hinge... same as the drivers door, not nearly as bad.

carpoor 03-26-2019 08:52 PM

Finished the hand sanding, and got some 2K primer on everything. Not pictured are the 2 front fenders and the pan under the rear bumper. I keep finding small blemishes in the front fenders. I'm sure that I am driving my father nuts, but I am after perfection... or as close as possible. I have come too far to half ass it at this point.

Getting closer to paint! When do you think you will spray it?

Hoping sooner than later, but not 100% sure when. I would say no later than the 1st week of May though.

Waiting for it to warm up, then heading over there to see what I can get done.

carpoor 04-09-2019 02:28 PM

A significant update, everything is jambed in and the panels are rehung. It won't be long now.

It's going be a nice looking car when you get done.

chevymaher 05-05-2019 06:14 PM

Had a guy who is gonna cut a tree down tomorrow. Looked at it. He kept saying you need to start driving this around.

yellow69 05-13-2019 08:49 PM

I just finished installing a holley sniper efi for the chevelle. Seems good so far. Try to get it more drivable around town.

What is your engine combination? I got one for my folks 72, hoping it plays nice with the 454 in their car. It's not radcal, but far from "stock."

carpoor 05-16-2019 06:52 AM

Basically I have been doing all the nit pick, pain in my arse things. I replaced all of the brake lines and the proportioning valve. What a nightmare, I hate pre bent lines. I used two kits, from two different vendors to get lines that worked. Even still, the line from the prop valve to the driver's side caliper hose is too short - neither kit had one long enough. The front to rear main line fit well, thankfully. I painted the underside of my hood, and repainted the tie bar - it had a ton of chips and scratches. I stripped and repainted some parts that weren't the right color/finish. Calipers, hood hinges. (I realize that these parts were not painted from the factory, but it is a driver - trying to look the part.) And, combing over the entire car looking for any small imperfections, and correcting them.

You keep gettin with it there. I about to join you I getting caught up on other things. New roof gutters and had a couple trees cut down. Wife said that was more important than the car can live in that. FFFT speak for yourself woman I did in my youth more than one chevelle.

Anywho interior is schedualed to start when fall rolls around. I told her thats it till the cars done. Geeze women I get a boat so she wants a new roof.

30 over 454 street, edelbrock cam, heads, intake performer rpm package. Have a 4 speed, I like it so far. My double pumper, when running good ran rich. This is a world of difference for throttle response and street driving compared to a holley dp.

Glad to hear. Theirs is a .040" over Gen V 454 from ATK. GMPP ZZ502 HO cam, cnc'd AFR 265s, Edelbrock Torker II intake. I want it to have good power and road manners so they can enjoy it.

carpoor 05-21-2019 12:18 PM

Not happy at all right now. Put the hood on, not fitting like it was before. I am begining to think the hinges are shot. I swear, I would get my gaps good... open and close the hood a few times - and the damn thing had moved. I have some paint chips and gouges in the body work to fix now.

Talk to me about hinges, aftermarket? Or is there someone good that can rebuild them?

Used to be a guy on Team Chevelle (Willie ? ) that rebuilt hinges .

That's him.I spoke to him last night, very nice guy. Going to pull the hood back off tomorrow and send him my hinges.

yellow69 05-26-2019 07:04 AM

Found some back roads and flogged the Chevelle with the new fuel injection. Love it so far, throttle response is a world of difference. I thought I had my double pumper tuned good but this efi is awesome.

dconnor 05-29-2019 12:52 AM

Done installing the new clutch and replacing the bushings on the shifter. Also, I decided to order ironman tires because of the price.

carpoor 06-06-2019 05:57 PM

I pulled the front clip off of the 68 today. Spent a day last week getting the 307 & PG ready to come out. Hopefully next day I have off, I can get the engine and transmission out. I want to completely remove everything on the firewall and front frame rails. Going to clean, paint, set up my engine mounts for the LS swap.

FlintTony 06-07-2019 04:38 AM

Are you going to smooth the firewall? Or just take things apart to clean and paint?

carpoor 06-21-2019 07:21 PM

Originally, I was wanting to refurbish what was there. But, now I am thinking a Vintage Air system would be more tidy/trouble free. So most likely I will end up welding up the factory holes in the firewall.

I canabalized a 71-72 core support to fix the one off of my 68. It was a spare, and had some rough edges.

I see what you'll be doing for the whole summer.

Hank70SS 08-05-2019 05:47 PM

Put a new advance curve kit in the distributor. Old one seemed fine but the idle wouldn't always drop down to where it should be. Had a hell of a time adjusting the timing, guess I need to put in heavier springs. Seems like the advance was coming in at idle which made it harder to adjust. Not today though, in the 80's and a lot hotter than that in garage, leaning over a big block.

Been pecking at it here and there. I bled the brakes and got it back on 4 wheels. Hood fit horrible, sent my hinges out to be rebuilt. Hood fits way better, still needs some work to get the body lines better.

carpoor 09-11-2019 02:24 PM

Collecting parts, UMI Suspension had a sale last week. I bought: tubular rear control arms, rear lower control arm relocation brackets (corrects pinion angle on lowered cars), rear shock tower brace, front frame/steering box brace.

I still need to purchase shocks, sway bars, and a frame boxing kit. Going with Bilstien shocks, not sure on sway bars... IIRC, 2nd gen Trans Ams have a nice front sway bar that is an upgrade. Going to purchase an OEM style 1" rear bar. The boxing kit, I could do my own. But, in the sake of saving time and putting efforts elsewhere - going to buy something pre made.

carpoor 09-17-2019 03:31 PM

My dad hurt his back last week, he's in a lot of pain. The doctor told him it is time he quits working in the garage. So, pretty much leaves me to finish these cars by myself. (6 of them, plus the usual stuff) I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Today I went over and started welding up the under side of the floor pans on his 72 Chevelle. I am hoping to get it mostly wrapped up tomorrow. But, it will definitely have to come off of the frame to fix everything 100%.

chevymaher 09-18-2019 02:11 PM

I havent done anything in a while. Doing the boat thing. I was actually shopping engine parts today. It is coming finish this pig.

carpoor 10-14-2019 09:29 PM

I pulled the fuel tank out of my 72 Saturday, was never really happy with it. Ordered a stainless one from Ausleys. I think it is the only way to go with all the humidity here in FL. I also installed new rear coil springs, the invoice was still on the box - purchased 8/17/14

Hopefully I'll have this turd running again in a week or two. It has not run in 5+ years.

chevymaher 10-26-2019 02:32 PM

Fixed chips from the hood hinge breaking. Cleaned it some and put another battery in it. Yea i know no motor that is why it keeps going dead right?

carpoor 10-26-2019 07:43 PM

Got my tank in about a week ago, no regrets. Those stainless fuel tanks are really nice.

carpoor 12-02-2019 09:35 PM

I picked up a new header panel for the 68 from Ausley's at the Daytona show this past Saturday.

Hank70SS 12-04-2019 06:02 PM

I checked the battery maintainer on mine. Battery is all good. That's it, it's covered up and snowing right now.

carpoor 12-10-2019 02:27 PM

Got the hood fitting right and the gaps good. Put some glazing putty on 5 little spots. Two are from the hood hinge debacle.

chevymaher 12-10-2019 06:10 PM

I been on the phone hours getting quotes. add this subtract that. On a stage 4 interior kit. We getting closer to pulling the trigger.
