Still combing over every inch of my car, touching up any blemishes. Fingers crossed... going to apply some paint SOON.

chevymaher 12-20-2019 06:30 PM

congrats that is a huge milestone.

Hank70SS 12-21-2019 09:19 AM

Not really the weather here to do anything on the Chevelle. Is supposed to be warm, in the 40's, for the next week. Of course they dumped a few tons of salt on the roads around here a few days ago. If they hadn't done that I'd take it out for a ride.

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

chevymaher 01-01-2020 08:13 PM

Congrats on a beautiful new baby chevelle.

FlintTony 01-02-2020 03:17 AM

Looks real good. Your many hours of hard work have paid off.

Thanks. I went over after work and unmasked it. It was like unwrapping a present. I am glad I have the friends I do. My friend was down on vacation and sprayed the car for me. He does it for a living. I do not regret letting someone more experienced paint it. The car came out really slick, and I learned a lot by watching & listening.

FlintTony 01-03-2020 04:09 AM

The way you work, I'm thinking you will be driving it this weekend! Car sure looks good.

Going to let it sit a few weeks before I wet sand and buff it. I need to get it running again and hope the carb isn't in need of another rebuild from letting it sit. April is my hope for registering and insuring.

carpoor 01-23-2020 07:08 PM

Been wet sanding - a little here, a little there. I am in no rush.

chevymaher 02-23-2020 03:01 PM

Just alot of shopping. I like this look. Brodix plastered everywhere.
https://i.postimg.cc/s2FmBWpP/chev.jpg

Been shopping a cover for it to. Hell it wont ever go anywhere may as well get something it can use LOL.

carpoor 04-07-2020 09:01 PM

I dug out my door handles and outer window felts today. Going to be greedy and work on my car tomorrow. I have the top buffed to the belt line. Going to put the interior back together and put some trim parts back on. I have barely touched it in over a month. Just been so busy with everything else.

mestorod70 04-09-2020 10:35 AM

Im playing around with front coil springs.
i need to raise the front 1 inch.

carpoor 04-24-2020 03:56 PM

So... ended up getting very little done. Spent LOTS of time digging and hunting for things. My quarter trim panels are junk! Pre assembled PUI, back then (2008-2009) they used plastic for the upper part. Won't stay hooked onto the inner panel of the car. I bought new ones... low and behold - they went back to metal like the originals! As if they knew they had a problem. That said, after ordering missing $h@+ and replacing virtually "new" parts that are crap... most of my $1200 gubment check is gone. Still waiting on some essential pieces to arrive. Then I need to finish buffing and throw the rest of the trim on this pig.

Oh yeah... finally got to install these. They are NOS and I have been storing them for about 10 years.

Hank70SS 04-24-2020 05:21 PM

Like those cowl induction emblems, wish I had a good set. Haven't done anything to the chevelle. Been working inside since the weather here as been total S***. Hopefully it improves next week so I can at least go for a ride.

mestorod70 04-28-2020 10:01 AM

I blocked my chevelle in the garage for a while.
A boat showed up in my driveway and needs new bunks.

Hank70SS 04-28-2020 05:40 PM

I took the cover off and went for a drive yesterday. Nice day for a change, sunny and warm. Went to our daughters fixed a few things for her. Took a little drive and stopped at the Dairy Queen. Feels good to get out of this house.

carpoor 05-19-2020 03:25 PM

I put my 1st scratch in the fresh paint last week. (72) Tool slipped out of my hand. Got the passenger side all wet sanded and buffed out. Started wet sanding the driver's side, got about 1/3 done. I dug out the 69, started cutting and fixing the driver's side quarter panel. I need to get the metal work done on the 68 & 69 this year.

chevymaher 06-09-2020 03:51 PM

Well I got another one to do now. I promised to paint it years ago. My buddy is buying fenders and hood for his 71 chevelle. Bought a sander from me yesterday. It is getting serious now. Either gonna be red white stripes or blue with white stripes. He has had a red chevelle since we were in high school. I vote go red. I got a blue one. He put a new engine and did some rear end work on it.

I got the boat out finally yesterday. And I am dinking with one of the trucks. Shopping motors motor part both. I will pull the trigger here before long on something.

mestorod70 06-12-2020 10:07 AM

Replaced front coil springs...had to cut em a bit.
Drove around the block...nice ride.
Boat bunks are done and so is my wallet for a while...BOAT.
Thinking about musical air horns....DIXIE.

chevymaher 06-12-2020 07:10 PM

New bunks are a good thing.

I got a new shirt today.

Scratch is fixed, car is 100% buffed. Got all of the emblems and trim on the driver's side. Still slowly pecking away at it. My next vacation is in November... maybe it will be ready by then?

carpoor 06-14-2020 08:03 PM

I bought a Gen V 454 crate engine from a friend. He's had it in a few of his cars since the late 90s. Not 100% sure of all the details, hard to find old advertising for GM crate engines. Supposedly went 11.80s in a 79 Z28 with a loose converter and sticky tires. Going to toss it in my 69 Chevelle so I can get it running. I just do not have enough $$$ right now to build the 427 how I want it. Going to shelve that engine for a later date.

chevymaher 06-15-2020 08:36 PM

Looking good. My buddy would be jealous. That 71 I was talking about fixing for him. He wants your paint job. Blue with white stripes. I want him to be red white stripes. He had a red chevelle since 1979 LOL

Still chipping away at my 72 in between everything else...

Slick87gn 08-05-2020 08:04 AM

Best time under lockdown.

chevymaher 08-14-2020 06:07 AM

Well it is finally happening. I had the engine block in to fab up the clutch linkage and shifter hole so I could get the console in right.

Yesterday I started the pulling it out process. Which isnt as easy as it sounds. I got the world stored on the cherry picker i got to move. It should be out today.

My buddy talked to the machineist engine builder. He wants me to wait till i drop off the block to talk to him before I buy the heads and intake. He wants to make sure I get what he wants for his magic formula.

The engine builder guy says it comes in 3's for him. he is doing 3 496's for street cars. He said no problem in what I want. Good idle 600hp in a 496. He just did one and it turned out good.

He is going to check the block I got and said he has one if I mine isnt good and I need one.

I god the bank ready for this engine and the gear venders OD. so then we down to little stuff.

radiator condensor and dont laugh brake lines fuel lines and such.

chevymaher 08-15-2020 12:13 PM

Motor is at the guys house. He is no joke he got all the machines. That block isnt leaving the building I dropped it off at.

We himed and hawed around about what to use. final decision was BB-2 Plus heads. He ordering a special grind roller hydralic cam 246-252 @ 50. He gonna dyno it on his dyno. He says 550-600 area is what is expected.

He is loaded with work I told him just take your time.

He will call on monday or so after the magnaflux and block checking. Tell me what pressure valve springs to get on the heads. so it is in the works now. Next step is being done.

chevymaher 10-29-2020 05:30 AM

Well we got shocks and brakes now. Moving along. This is pretty much my job now for a while playing with this thing. I even put the boat up early because this is what i wanted to do.

Not working on it as much as I'd like, but getting close...

Still need to put the windshield in and start the engine. (Hasn't run in about 6 years)

I think mine has been 15.

chevymaher 12-10-2020 03:22 PM

I still tinkering. I put the holley black pump on and new fuel lines. Run buss bars. Got the regulator on.

Today I was putting on bump stops.

I been getting busy on other things My truck ate a rusty shackle and non sense like that. My other truck needed new tires.

Anyway I am here kicking

Retired 01-01-2021 04:27 PM

Well, I managed, about 2 weeks ago, to lean over the fender of the '65 and, since I was doing some grinding on some unrelated stuff, my shirt had iron filings on it and now my fender is scratched up. BAH!

I'll go to the body shop in a couple months to see what they can do to it.

What a dummy! Didn't even think about it.

I'll blame it on the Republican Senate - no.... they don't seem to do anything... maybe the House Democrats... yeah... Dam them democrats anyway!

chevymaher 01-21-2021 07:06 AM

My motor guy is about to balance all my rotating assembly. Things are moving now. He referred me to a clutch guy. He is having a special order centerforce clutch made to match the motors power. Seems it is stouter than the ones they advertise.

I cleaned it yesterday did the top and all.

carpoor 01-21-2021 05:06 PM

I tried to bleed the brakes a few weeks ago. Can't get it to stop leaking where the front to rear line meets the proportioning valve. Mind you... all new parts: lines, prop valve, master cylinder, booster, etc.

chevymaher 03-19-2021 08:05 PM

Well the engine guy said he is going to actually start mine the short block this week coming. LOL it is hell having a famous engine builder who does prostock engines do a street car. A busy guy.

Hank70SS 03-20-2021 07:25 AM

Haven't touched it in months. Winter here, well done now, plus rotator cuff surgery in December. Put the 454 that's in it on craigslist, flooded with responses. From Chicago, Fort Wayne, Saginaw, etc. Maybe I should have listed it for more. Got everything except a flywheel for the engine that's going in.

chevymaher 05-22-2022 03:54 PM

My vaccuum pump for the crankcase was bad. Replaced it. I went and bought microfiber towels some wax and UV protectant for the vynal. I had fun just cleaning it.

LOL the other day I was foolin with something. I got bent because there was grass and such in the fenderwell. LOL well rocket man it don't just sit any more it gets driven this happens.
