man i like that rad setup! what fan system is that or did you make that?
|
Your car is coming along nicely , any projected test drive date?
|
Thanks for the pictures Ray. The fan and radiator is from American Eagle.
I really appreciate the comments and help. We had some rain and I noticed standing water in the car the next day. Seems like its leaking in from the windshield and back glass area. I think te riveted studs that hold on the trim are leaking??? Good thing the interior is not in! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Im glad you found the leaks in time to fix them before the interior went in .
|
Most likely you have a rusted out corner. The studs should be welded in from the factory around the windows. The corners rust out on the chevelles because dirt and debris get into the corners and hold moisture and they rust out there first.
|
Ray I repaired those corners. There all metal. But when I did the repairs some of the factory studs had to be replaced. I replaced them with the screw in type. My guess is there leaking around them. I noticed its leaking from the the left and right bottoms of the rear glass. And on the drivers side bottom of the windshield. My glass guy says he can seal them with the urethane. I hope so!
Ray, I think you gave the stud location info. Thanks again Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The screw would not let a lot of water in if at all. It could just be the window did not get set correctly. If the urethane stops the leak you will know. I used the Butyl rope on mine when I set my windows. Heard so much pro and cons on which way to go. Heard urethane makes the cars to stiff and the glass can crack, other say no, butyl allows for flex ability but is hard to work with. Hard to believe what is true. Anyway good luck and check everything before you put the trim on. Car is looking good.

Im gonna talk with the glass guy tomorrow.

Hopefully it will be an easy fix .

But, never one to half ass things on my car... I bought a quart. Hoping I can paint all of my wheels with just a quart of paint. |
It's been almost two months! Any updates?

Started a business and have had to devote 175% of my time to it. But its a motorcycle shop. And I have been ding cycle repair in my home garage for 10+ years. Now all my stuff from home shop is at new shop. That means I was able to get my car inside my garage.
I anticipate being able to get back to working on it much more frequently very soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Congrats on the new venture ,I had wondered what you were up too .Show us some pics of your shop and what you do with the motorcycles when you can .

Thank you.
I need a little help identifying were a vacuum diaphragm device location is. The line going to it has a rubber grommet on it, as if it goes through the fire wall? There is also a plastic tee the vacuum line is coming from that is broken. Im wondering what size the tee is? 1/8- 1/16? And last but not least, were the broken off line would connect to? The diaphragm device is located currently in the passenger side near air box/ dash. I posted a picture for reference. Attachment 2677 Attachment 2678 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nice set up
|
That looks like the vacuum pod that sits in the cowl. If you were to open the hood, it sits in the open hole in the cowl furthest to the passenger side.
|
Were would the rubber grommet go?
Any idea were the broken lune goes? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Try this link and see if it helps any. Shows the grommet going through the fire wall just to the left of the AC unit on the fire wall. Look under the 68-69 PDF, should be the top one.
http://www.gobookee.net/69-chevelle-...-line-diagram/ I'm not an expert on 69, but I thought there no vacuum pods on the 69's were 70 did have them? This picture may not be for a 69 |
lots and lots of work ahead of you. keep working:drunk:

Not nearly as much work ahead as I have already done to get to this stage

Slowly putting it together. As you can see in previous photos. I found the assembly photos in the book. Then did some digging. What I found was several things. First was the location of my mystery parts. Second the area the vacuum line passed through to get to mystery parts location.
As yall pointed out it was in the passenger side of the cowl. The air actuator is the mystery part and it is actually comprised of 2 parts. The actuator & the flapper. My body man installed the flapper, but did not have the actuator on it :( The reason I believe I cant find the hole for the vacuum line in my cowl, is most likely because I replaced the entire cowl early on in this project? Looks like I just need to drill a hole in the location shown in the assembly manual with a square half filled in at a angle that says "hose"Attachment 2693Attachment 2694Attachment 2695 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Next hiccup is the actuator arm, it has a small 90 degree piece that screws to the end. That I believe bolts to the flapper. My 90 degree piece is broken. Wonder if those are available aftermarket??? Number 7 in photo
If yall may have one please let me know. Attachment 2697Attachment 2698 http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/06/10/tezu9a5a.jpg |

Drilled the hole and got the grommet in and line run to actuator. Now to determine were the broken nipple goes to???? The pictures show the tee connector broken in the top left of photo. There is a hole in the top right of the firewall, noticeable in the photo. Could my broken mystery line go out that hose to a vacuum source? I would think it would be a A/C controlled source rather than constant engine vacuum. Hence the hole and the line going in that direction?????Attachment 2699Attachment 2700

Found a box of some missing parts that are the missing links to my questions.
Im really looking forward to getting back on this project hot and heavy. Between a ground up scratch built motorcycle Im building for a customer and starting my new business, the ole Chevelles has been neglected. More progress pics coming soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No luck finding a 90 degree part to connect my flapper. Going to look for one as I progress along with the project.
Right now Im working on installing the new wire harness. Ive got most the dash connectors located. Im stumped on two connectors. The markings on the new wires don't seem to jive with the old stuff or Im lost. Very possible Im off! If only the new harness tech support was open nights and weekends. I cant seem to find were to connect the idiot lights bulb sockets to the new harness? Where's the hi beam indicator located on a 72? Can not remember :( Can any body advise about were the wires in the diagram connect to? It seems there is a update harness and a OEM replacement harness. I have the update, but want to use stock sweep gauges. Calling tech support today!
Were is everyone these dayz? Have I bored everyone? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Figured you had it all figured it out. What 90 degree are you missing for the flapper?
|
Its the part that connects the flapper to the actuator.

Got the dash harness in. It took me a little extra time, but I soldered and heat shrunk all the connections.
Attachment 2776 Im stumped on how the top row of speedometer lights are getting there power. I didn't see any wires powering the strip going to the bulbs. Any idea were the blueish looking strip in the photo gets power? Attachment 2777 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
