Thanks. I really took my time with the details. I think that comes from my model car building i do. On regreat. I did not paint the water pump. It is going to suck when it rusts.

carpoor 01-25-2012 07:36 PM

I sandblasted my intake manifold after work this afternoon.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/DSC00448.jpg

Need to finish cleaning it, and get a coat of paint on it. Maybe tomorrow, supposedly clear skies and 82* tomorrow. Still waiting for my cylinder heads to be finished.

69chevelless 01-25-2012 09:20 PM

Ordered a bunch of interior parts for my chevelle on Sunday and got them yesterday. Brought the seat covers to the upholstery shop and said they will have them done soon. I'm defanitly making some progress.

Getting ready to get my butt out into the garage and put my exhaust on, get the oiling system primed and get the distributor in. Then get it started and start braking in the cam.
Wish me luck!

shadowgray396 01-28-2012 02:38 PM

wish you luck. Hope all goes well.

Ms Grumpy 01-28-2012 05:20 PM

Got to see my brother to talk about the small trans leak I have. I will have to wait until after the autorama to have it fixed.

carpoor 01-28-2012 05:40 PM

I went over to my folks to work on my car, ended up doing some work on my dad's 72' SS 454 Chevelle. Installed a DS loop, and a new transmission mount. The car was really dirty, so afterwards I gave it a bath for him. I mentioned a car show tomorrow, he told me he wasn't feeling up to it - but for me to go ahead and take the car. It's nearly the same as mine, so it gives me a fix while I continue to work on my heap. :)

flash 01-28-2012 06:55 PM

I got the El Camino out ,washed it and we went cruisin and grocery shopping at the same time.

grandsport 01-28-2012 07:17 PM

I might do what I was going to do last Sunday this Sunday.

shadowgray396 01-29-2012 08:36 AM

Still working on a photo album, have over 160 pictures in it so far.

70SS396 01-29-2012 09:33 AM

I had someone come out to give me an estimate for fixing the seam where the quarter meets the panel behind the read window. As mentioned before, it was filled and now has hairline cracks. I'm also going to get the correct cowl induction hood put on.

Ms Grumpy 01-29-2012 11:59 AM

It has just amazed me at how much work you guys are able to get done in the winter months. Man I wish I had a bigger garage.

flash 01-29-2012 05:23 PM

Today we got the vert out and went for a long cruise ,spotted a very nice 70 Chevy Truck being pulled out of a garage and stopped and talked trucks and Chevelles and made a new friend and he told me about a nice junkyard to go check out soon. You just never know what you may find on a secluded old country road.

SS Shaun 01-30-2012 10:35 AM

i finally got the motor painted and took all of the newspaper off so i can look at it and smile :)

68ChevelleSS 01-31-2012 07:24 AM

i drove it to the new house yesterday. Haven't had alot of time to do anything with it during the moving process.

70SS396 01-31-2012 09:12 AM

Not that you will ever need to think about it again once installed but I am sure you will really appreciate that radiator once it is in place! It cooled my car off too much and I had to get a hotter stat for my car so I'd say it did a great job.

70SS396 02-02-2012 09:53 AM

I got the radiator/fans combo yesterday. Man, what a work of art.

I ordered a carb today, Holley 4150HP, 900cfm +/-, custum tuned by Prosystems. It's going to be built to my engine specs and should make a huge difference over the Edelbrock 650cfm that came on it when I bought it, which I believe is way too small.

I started my Chevelle to tease myself a little bit! Come on spring!!!

carpoor 02-02-2012 03:27 PM

Spent some time cleaning and painting more parts, great weather for it today!

Finished cleaning the intake manifold and got it painted.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/DSC00452.jpg

Also sand blasted my M21 and steering shaft.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/DSC00451.jpg

I used Eastwood's Aluma Blast paint on the trans. I know they were raw aluminum from the factory, but this is a driver and I don't want it to tarnish again.

Doing what I can while I am waiting for the machine shop to finish my cylinder heads. I still have a bit more detailing in the engine bay to complete.

70SS396 02-02-2012 04:53 PM

^^Looks good!

carpoor 02-02-2012 06:10 PM

Thanks, at this rate... it might be done by the end of this year. I won't hold my breath though, been working on it for 15 1/2 months as it is. On the bright side - interior is done, paint mostly done. Car has been in the family since June of 06'.

carpoor 02-03-2012 08:07 PM

I guess their ears were burning after my post yesterday, got a call around noon today from the machine shop...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/DSC00457.jpg

I'll install them after work tomorrow, and measure for pushrods. Maybe even install the harmonic balancer while I am at it.

flash 02-03-2012 08:39 PM

Those sure do look good. I looked at the Chevelle ,El Camino ,55 Bel Air and Trans Am for about 5 minutes and then had to do some work on the house but hopefully I get to do something fun with the cars tomorrow.

carpoor 02-03-2012 08:56 PM

They are an old set of heads off a D/SA 72' Corvette. (LS5) I am part # restricted by the rules for the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags. (72' LS5 calls for part # 3999241 cylinder heads)) They are milled to 100cc, from 113cc factory. Multi angle valve job, tulip cut stems on the stainless valves - lighter + more flow, all of the valve springs are set to the same installed height. Doing all we can with stock parts to get this pig to run hard. They have been coated with Glyptol before I got them too, helps the oil return back to the pan. I'll give them a coat of Chevy Orange tomorrow.

NHRA factors the 71' & 72' LS5s @ 390 flywheel HP. I'd like to stick it on an engine dyno to break it in, tune it, and get some real #'s. But, not in the budget right now. I'll settle for chassis dyno #'s when I get it running. If it's between 365-390 @ the crank, it should make around 245-265 RW on a dynojet. TQ will be about 320-345 RW.

SS Shaun 02-03-2012 10:20 PM

putting myself on a mission. this weekend put all my tools away and clean it up nice. get in the chevelle with some boxes and some creates and take everything out of and on the chevelle. once i do that the goal is to get the shifter on correctly so i can get it in N, and put in the z-bar, put in the drive shaftand get the dash harness labeled and cleaned and tested all by march 1st lets see if i can do it :)

shadowgray396 02-03-2012 11:06 PM

Looking good. Heads look very nice. Looks like a small block steering shaft. You can rebuilt the top half of the shaft if it has not been taken apart for 40 years. I took mine apart and replaced all the old grease that was in it. After 40 years it wasn't grease any more. Here's what mine looked like once I finished it.

Mine looked just like that after I finished it. :ntwrthy:

carpoor 02-04-2012 09:00 AM

It's actually a big block shaft, has the splined end rather than being press fit. I guess it's kind of hard to see in the picture.

carpoor 02-04-2012 06:47 PM

A little further along today, heads installed and torqued. I have the intake and valve covers just sitting on it to keep the dust out.

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6908.jpg
these two bins are full of parts for the chevelle
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6911.jpg

all of these parts need to go on ebay for sale! and i have a lot more thats not pictured
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6912.jpg
and my poor LQ9 sitting in the back waiting for parts so she can go in chelly
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/IMG_6913.jpg

so half my goal was completed now i just need to list everything on Ebay now make some money to get my car on the road :)

fleming23 02-05-2012 01:46 PM

Did a little stereo work on mine today. Put in a small 2 channel amp under the seat to power the 6x9s in the rear deck. Wasn't anything crazy but a true 60x2 watts helped add a little more volume.

fleming23 02-05-2012 02:42 PM

Got bored and decided to put the new rear Bilstein shocks on the Chevelle. It is such a beautiful day to work in the garage!

grandsport 02-05-2012 06:00 PM

Thought about if I should sell it......

flash 02-05-2012 08:11 PM

I did nothing to the Chevelle or El Camino today.

70SS396 02-08-2012 03:36 PM

edited due to sale

flash 02-15-2012 06:57 PM

I worked on Joans Sport Trac right beside the Chevelle today but did nothing to the Chevelle or El Camino.

Ms Grumpy 02-15-2012 07:22 PM

Dropped my Astro Van off at Eric's house today. He said he could drive it to work and work on it, then drive it home. I have been hearing a noise and I think it is a wheel bearing in the front. And of course he doesn't hear it, reminds me of another time with my car. Anyway, I told him he could keep the van for a few days and drive it to see if he hears anything. The reason I dropped it off at his house is cause he lives about 12 miles from me and his shop is about 25-30 miles from my house. When I talked to him this afternoon he was shocked at how good of gas mileage the van gets. So he is happy to be using my van, my gas for a few days.

As far as my car, just looked at the snow built up in front of garage. And I noticed that David left the light on in the garage.
