Hank...I've been cutting down these dead ash trees and digging up the stumps so I can cut them off below ground. I'm taking a quick smoke break. If you have anything that needs done around your place that can't wait until you heal, I will come down and lend a hand. Anything is better that what I'm doing now. In fact, I'm begging you to find something for me to do!

Never mind Hank. I'm done for the day. Thanks for saving my old, tired, wore out ass, buddy.

Day late and dollar short, oh well. Thanks for the offer Tony.

Henry rented a log splitter this morning to split the ash and other trees we took down over the last few years. I got to watch while him and Lynda split and moved the wood up to the house for this winter. The sump pump went out a few days ago, I watched while he pulled out the old one. Lynda and I picked up a new one HD, I cut and put together a new drain pipe then watched while he put the new pump in. One of the burner elements is gone on glass top stove. It's a triple element and one element is shot. I can't pull the top off and replace the burner while on crutches. It's driving me crazy, I was going non-stop since being laid off in March, now I can't do anything. I have to be moving, even if I'm just messing around I have to be moving. A fractured pelvis and crutches just don't let you move around that well.

Oh well, it's getting better. Guess I'll just have to wait it out until things are back to normal.

How's progress Hank? Was it fun watching Henry do all the work? Did you have to keep yelling at him?

Hank70SS 09-27-2011 11:49 AM

Last week and half, two weeks have been pretty good. I'm feeling a lot better, don't have the pain like I use to. Feels sore, like a bruise but not that bad. Can't do a whole lot yet but do what I can. Hardest part is I can't carry anything unless it's really small because of the crutches. Go to Dr next week, hopefully he says weight on left lag as tolerated and that I can drive. Don't really feel any pain doing the 30% weight which I sure is a lot more that 30% at times. Sometimes I just forget, don't pay attention and put a lot more weight on than I'm supposed to. So things are doing good, thanks for asking.

Didn't have to yell at Henry, he did a lot of stuff the last two weekends. He better because he knows if he doesn't than it all falls on Lynda.

Well, saw the rehab doc the other day. I thought this is taking a long time. I can walk straight if I stop and think about it, otherwise I would tend to favor the left leg and walk with a limp. It still hurts and can really hurt by the end of the day depending on how much I've been on my feet. He said I'm doing good, most people couldn't walk straight and would be using a cane at this point. I guess that's good, just wish things would move along a little faster.

Saw the ortho doc yesterday. Still a lot of pain in my shoulder after a month of therapy. It will wake me up at night and doesn't move in some directions too well. Going for an MRI next week, he says I may have a small tear in the rotator cuff. I don't need this crap! Rotator cuff surgery, there goes another couple of months.

Oh well, don't have a job to worry about. I'm still here and still kicking, maybe not as hard I use to but still kicking. Right arm is good and that's the one I drink beer with, life is good.

As long as the beer arm works, you will be fine.

RBeckman 11-10-2011 08:02 PM

Jeez Hank, I'm thinking a heart attack is a lot easier than what you are going through....I was up and back to work in 2 weeks. Maybe next week if you are up to it I can stop by on the way home from work since Leslie will be in Canada for work all week.

Hank, it sounds like you are taking one step forward and two steps back. Let's hope that the shoulder is just a sprain.

It is nice to hear, though, that your beer arm is still working well.

I think you're right Ric. The docs say a pelvis fracture usually has a good outcome, things heal up and no long term affects. Downside is it's extremely painful and takes a long time to fully recover. The shoulder, guess all the drugs they were giving me for the pelvis covered up the shoulder injury. Hopefully it's not the rotator cuff. Both the hip and shoulder suffered a lot of soft tissue damage that doesn't heal up as fast as the bone fractures.

Hey, I'm usually around. Give me a call, like to see you.
