took the pulleys, water pump, and alt bracket off and sand blasted them and then put them in the parts washer. changed the water inlet on the intake so it can fit correctly on for the radiator. i'll get pics up in a little

flash 02-17-2012 08:12 PM

I walked by it if that counts.

fleming23 02-17-2012 09:42 PM

Maybe I haven't been following, or just don't remember, but what is wrong with the car?

flash 02-18-2012 04:43 PM

Me too Eric ,what did I miss ?

grandsport 02-18-2012 06:38 PM

Miss is something I have done also.

Rharp 02-18-2012 08:44 PM

Drove it over to one of the interior shops. In about four weeks I will be dropping it off to get the inside completely blacked out. No more gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana:

Looks good Shawn, but curious why you went black on the WP rather than orange or aluminum/silver.

SS Shaun 02-19-2012 01:18 PM

i dont know i wanted it to be a little different i guess :) i like the whole orange and black theme i have going on under the hood

shadowgray396 02-19-2012 06:52 PM

Moving Forward again

Got a few parts back from the powder coater Friday, they match the pulley I painted very well. Getting ready to send out the clutch for the fan to be rebuilt and the original disc brake caliphers. Carb is also headed out to see if it can be saved. If not a hunt will start for a correct carb and I'm sure it going to be a few bucks to replace.

SS Shaun 02-19-2012 07:11 PM

nice man! good luck with everything!

shadowgray396 02-19-2012 09:59 PM

I'm not sure on the black water pump look either. Just doesn't have the bling to me. But build it the way you like it.

carpoor 02-22-2012 07:58 PM

Sadly, haven't worked on it in over two weeks. Haven't felt up to it to be honest. I struck a deal with an old friend to sell him my 2001 Camaro SS today. Hoping to wrap that deal up within the next few weeks. Going to tidy it up and get it ready to go to a new home. Progress on my 72' should move along much quicker without an additional car to maintain/wash/etc.

With a little luck, I may be able to make some improvements on my truck, buy a trailer, and make it to a race with the car later this year. If not, I'll be quite happy to dial it in at my local track in prep for one.

Hope you can save it! I think I told you what I had to pay for my Q-jet.:(

Definitely not cheap, when I first started looking for one for my own car... was told $500 - $800 for a core. I was patient, and found someone reasonable - paid $250 shipped. Still hurt to pay that much for a crusty old carb that needs rebuilding. But, didn't sting as bad as the other prices I got. It's amazing how much more a QJet for a manual trans sells for vs. a QJet for an auto. I bought a spare automatic QJet for $30 shipped. (PN 7042220) The stick BBC cars call for a PN 7042215.

i spent this week decoding my wiring harnesses so i know whats what when i put it in the car. tonight i should have my dash harness complete. so that means i only have the headlight harness to figure out. as for the comments on the black parts on my motor you will see the big picture soon. i think its coming together the way i am picturing it. I have a black rad holder (not sure what its called) and a black air cleaner lid and looking for some black valve covers. when ever i build a car the first thing i do is come up with a theme of the car. the paint the vision the idea. my chevelle is going to have a custom paint job thats going to match the motor in a way. its not going to be that chevy orange but its going to be in the family :) so under the hood i want it to keep the same theme as what i am going for with the car :)

Ms Grumpy 02-23-2012 07:00 PM

I checked out my headlight bezels, cause there is another post that covers the difference between the '71 and the '72. And I am pretty sure that I have the right ones. Whew ! I had to pull back the cover to get to the headlights...MAN..do I wish it was spring !

SS Shaun 02-28-2012 09:44 PM

checked every wire on my engine harness with a ohms meter and all of them checked out good replaced my Coil wire with the steel wires with a 12 gauge wires and new connector. also fixed the ends of each of the wiring harness ends that broke or came off. and wrapped it up with some tape that i bought thats meant for wiring harness. sorry for the crappy cell picture but here it is

It was a great day yesterday for a cruise! I rode to the shop with the windows down and sunroof open and it was beautiful!

flash 03-02-2012 10:57 AM

I drove it to work today with the top down.

SS Shaun 03-04-2012 12:25 AM

so after spending about 4 hours in the garage today my brother in law and i did a lot but encountered a lot! so this weekends plan was the following:
get the shifter installed correctly
gas tank installed
fuel line ran
belt for water pump and alt
dash harness
I got 1.5 out of the 5 done. We got the gas tank and popped out the old sending unit not a big deal. put in the new sending unit no problem. we picked up the tank and it sounded like a rock or something was in it! we shook the tank and couldn't figure out what it was. Called a friend and asked if it was normal. we couldn't even see it! finally i said screw it lets see if can see it. and we must of rocked it for like an hour!
Finally after playing with it enough we got it to get it loose from what ever it was stuck on and we rocked it and we jumped for joy when we finally saw it roll by in the tanks. We finally got it to stop right in front of the hole for the sending unit! we pulled it out and it was a broken part from the old sending unit! we shook the tank for about another good 10 mins and no more sounds! we flushed it out to make sure nothing else was floating around in there and we found nothing!

that was the .5 of what we got done. the other thing we got done was installing the shifter! man what a pain in the butt for someone who has never done it before! but after many google searches and finally finding a picture of it on chevy hardcore and following the instructions i sat in my car and i was able to bang on all 5 gears! 1-4 and R i was so happy i almost cried...lol

Tried to find a radio delete plate with no luck.

carpoor 03-08-2012 10:33 AM

What year radio delete plate do you need?

BillsCamino 03-08-2012 11:48 AM

Installed the new SMI Q-jet carb, a new prebent pump to carb fuel line, and a few assorted under hood goodies that arrived from Hinshaws yesterday afternoon.
If I really focused on it, I could probably get the '67 running again in an hour or so. But...not in any real hurry.
Heading for Ireland next Wednesday...

Damn, that smilie looks like a Guinness...
