Just some damn good music
I thought it would be a noble deed (plus give me a higher post count!) to start a thread of some of my favorite music.
It dont get much better than this .................. |

Betcha cant look at the screen for the whole 4:25

Yes Robin Trower! Its interesting to follow the history of some of these people, especially the English and the groups they have and still do play with. Robin often plays with Jack Bruce of Cream and was originally with Poco Harem in the sixties.

This is a thread for Grumpy. He knows some of the most obscure music.
|
Music soothes the soul and if thats the case I am gonna take a SWAG and bet Grumpy does not live up to his name.
If this song was simulcast thoughout the USA there would be no road-rage for that 9 minutes and 45 seconds ..... Van (the man)/ T.B. Sheets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h-mcDlpkgU |

Mostly late 60's, 70's for me but Stevie Ray is also a favorite.
SRV - Pride and Joy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU0MF...eature=related Neither are obscure but I love a good guitar player and these two are among the best. |
Alot of coke songs about that time, Jackson Browne's Lawyers in Love for example.
I am thinking that Eric Clapton was doing the nasty with Geo Harrison's wife about the time "Cocaine" came out which leads me (pretty tricky) to My Guitar Gently Weeps but not Georges version .... its a "group" thang, but check out the solo part yawl will NEVER believe the artist and talent!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifp_SVrlurY |
Wow Hank, the Texas guys had their own niche back then. And Southern rock was and is just damn good. Stevie Ray, the VanZants, .... Robinson brothers ........ the Black Crows.
The Black Crows with Jimmy Paige doing Zep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CejL5KIGhpM |

HD is running a show on sattelite called "Fender" or something like that which is a tribute to the guitarist that mainly play the Stratocaster. Catch that one if you have HD channels .... and "BINGO" on Austin City Limits. They usually have a great array of talent of all genres.
I really dont like BlueGrass but I saw Allison Krause do James Taylor's "Carolina" on that show .... what a voice! .... and pleasnt on the eyes! LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjGcIhxGP3c |

Not sure how far reach Bob Seger has from the midwest, but some of you may thought this was just written for Chevrolet..it wasn't I see Bob Seger when he was just a bar band in the early 70's and still one of my favorites today. I was at a Kid Rock concert two years ago and Kid pulled him on stage for a duo and it was great.

Roll me away, one of my all time favorites.
|
Seger played at one of our high school dance's in 69 or 70. He's come a long way since then. I've always been a fan, although there are a couple of his newer songs I'm too crazy about.
|
I have always been a Bob Seger fan. I like his earlier stuff.

I almost don't know what to say about that "solo" that prince or whatever the b'jesus his...er...its name is now. Not impressive whatsoever, and while I can appreciate that performance for what it is, with all those greats playing together, they could/SHOULD have chosen someone waaaaaay different to play the solo than that character. I can think of at least 10 people more worthy...not even including any of the guys on that stage.
No offense of course...just my opinion. Rant over. These guys really JAM in this little beatles tune...(how ironic that it is the same song, huh?) Tommy Emmanuel (guitar) and Jake Shimabukuro (ukulele) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5qakFIecBU |
Good damn music...
The yardbirds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9mQkFpkShg The animals http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FZU4JVOmro The zombies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc7b62El_fk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjp0EhQCFM0 Spencer Davis Group http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzN0mMx-sJg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5iFrYTRyy4 A few for now. |

Ok, but I do think Prince has some real talent. I'm not a big fan but some of his stuff is good and he can play the guitar. Not saying he is the best but he's not bad. |

Agreed. He's not bad. |
Jake,
Its funny but since we got our kids the guitar hero games they just love Deep Purple. Smoke on the water and Highway star are some of their very most favorites. I love it that they are digging something other then Hannah banana :) |
Dave that's pretty interesting to hear. When I'm listening to older music sometimes, I wonder what would happen if it was played on the radio again...would people react the same way? If a song is timeless or somehow relevant, it could be a hit all over again. The kids now hear something that is a cover or uses a sample from 30 years ago when music was great, and think it is completely original. They have no idea.
I try to influence what my boys like too. They both like music with a "beat", like R&B or hip hop. I let them listen to Booker T & the MGs, some James Brown, the Meters, some disco, jazz, and other reasonably innocent, but still cool stuff like that. I chose the screenname Highway Star because it is a song about a fast car, and also because of the gut-wrenching highway gears in my Chevelle, along with the fact that it seemed to make sense because I was also doing 200 miles of highway driving a day for work at the time, with no end in sight. Waving |
When my son heard the song in Wayne's World he went on and on about it. "Dad, you have to hear this!"
"Son, that song is older than you are." They're using a lot of the old classic rock songs in commercials and TV shows. A lot of old cars as well. I think they're geared for our generation, not the younger generation. We are the 'boomers' and supposedly have all the money. |
