Don't forget National Night out on Tuesday.

This is my kind of holiday! Get out on the front porch, drink some beer and talk to the neighbors.

That maybe fine for all of you that don't live in Metro Detroit....if we do that people start shooting at us....ha

Is that not what people that don't live around here think of the Detroit area?

grandsport 08-02-2010 12:11 PM

And we get upset when people set off firecrackers.

I just keep my pistol by my side. Actually I see more deer than people when I sit outside.

Hank, is a gang of deer? Any Tats you can see? I wonder if it's the same ones that keep eating my plants and leaving little turd balls on my lawn.

One morning I let the dog out about 3 A.M. and one standing by the front porch and almost gave me a heart attact. Funny seeing a little bull dog chase the deer, now everytime she goes out in the middle of the night she runs out the door barking her head off.

Hank70SS 08-02-2010 03:36 PM

They eat everything around here, flowers, shrubs, bushes. You either have to fence it in or buy that stuff you spray on the plants to keep them from eating them and they tell me I need a license to shoot the little bastards.

Well, you're grumpy, what else would you think?

Ms Grumpy 08-02-2010 04:20 PM

National Night out, does that mean that we all go to sleep?

Maybe it means that hubby will take wife out to dinner. Yeah that's a good one.

I will probably still be cleaning 6600 miles worth of grime off the car Tuesday night. Its amazing just how dirty a car can get in 17 days of travel.

Do what a true American would do. Clean the damn thing in your front yard and talk to your neighbors.

flash 08-03-2010 06:46 AM

If Im in my front yard cleaning my car there are no neighbors that I can talk to as there is acres between us.I like it that way.

I wish I could say that. The past few nights out neighbors dog kept "yapping" and the kids couldn't get to sleep.

flash 08-03-2010 08:54 AM

We hear the coyotes yapping from time to time but its peaceful for the most part. Its nice living out in the country but the city is getting closer.

grandsport 08-03-2010 09:41 AM

Sometimes we would like to move out in the country, but being in our twilight years it is good to have people nearby. We live in a country setting,so it is nice.Plus, the money we save moving can be put to much better use.Another toy sounds quite useful to me,what do you think?

flash 08-03-2010 11:33 AM

What do you consider twilight years? We are not too far away from others if we need something. My wifes kin folks own and live on the nearby farms .

Derek69SS 08-03-2010 11:40 AM

I'll be working on the Chevelle to get ready for the trip to Ohio... neighbors better not bother me. :D

grandsport 08-03-2010 11:51 AM

See you there Derek,if you are on the right side.:p

flash 08-03-2010 08:04 PM

Finaly finished cleaning the car , Im sure it will need more after we arrive in Ohio.

The only thing I can see from the front porch is trees....and I like it that way.;)

Hank70SS 08-06-2010 07:13 AM

Is a patio in the back ok? We don't sit out front, we use the patio off the family room.

Actually we rarely use our front porch either...a rare cup of coffee on an early morning weekend...but the beers are in the back;)

Hank70SS 08-11-2010 08:30 PM

Well it's dark right now. I'll try to get some pics when the herd of %&^((&, I mean deer, are out back. Wish I could get some good pics of our pet bat's but they only come out when the sun is setting and they move to damn fast.

Patio is cool too. That's where we eat.

Highway Star 08-11-2010 09:04 PM

Too many bugs outside here. And too hot. Right now, 9:04 pm, 84 degrees, 88 percent humidity. Yuck.

grandsport 08-11-2010 09:07 PM

I just came in. Bugs are bad, even with off.

That's why I like our pet bats. Go out front to the street and you'll get eaten alive by the mosquitoes. In the back, we have 3 yards that come together, the bats patrol and keep the area pretty clear. This year there are few mosquitoes out back because it's been so hot and humid, twice the average rainfall in July. Usually you can stay out there all night and night be bothered.

grandsport 08-11-2010 09:29 PM

Does one name their pet bats?

Yup, Bat 1, Bat 2 and Bat 3. Doesn't matter though, they never come when you call them.

flash 08-11-2010 09:58 PM

Its too hot here to spend much time outside. At work today my new boss told me to go to the soccer field and dig 2 holes and mount a soccer goal down. All I had to do is dig 2 holes ,set the goal and pour concrete around the poles. Sounds simple enough dont it ? well I get over to the field and cant find the goal that needs mounted to the ground ,I know nothing about soccer.Tommorrow I am supposed to set the second one. Well I called the coach to see just what I have been volunteered for .He came over and showed me several large boxes laying in a pile. He says here they are .I almost fell over when he said I first had to assemble them and then mount them to the ground. I got them assembled finaly with the sorriest instructions ever seen. These things are 24 feet across and 10 feet high before being anchored. It then took over an hour in 95 degree heat to dig 1 of 5 holes in dirt as hard as concrete. Tommorrow morning I get to start digging the other 9 holes and my boss expects me to be done by Friday, dont think its gonna happen. Im definitely making up for the vacation time off.

Yep...the bats are a good thing, though I have noticed a slight decline in the population and hope that disease thats out there doesn't wipe them out....we use to see bunches of them right at dusk, now it's just a couple.
The skeeters still aren't a problem here :ntwrthy:...which is amazing with the amount of wooded areas & wetlands around me.
