Did I get a good deal?
After doing 6 months of research, i finally purchased a Chevelle. Personally, I think I got a good deal.. let me know what you think..
I just bought a 1971 Chevelle SS. Im pretty sure its a clone but the guy said its an orginal SS. It has a 454 in it. The engine is mint, the guy said it has 0 miles on it and has never been run. The exterior is pretty close to immaculate. The paint is 8/10 shape. Its red with 2 black racing stripes. All the metal work under looks good. Theres no holes or rust. The interior is another story. It has all the original interior parts but they are all junked up. It needs a complete interior restoration. Im thinking about $1500-$2000 in the interior from my research. Tires are new, rims are stock in great shape. All the lights work. I paid $5500 + $80 for shipping |
You either got a smoking deal or I got f*cked. After doing my research I know I got f*cked. I bought a 72 Malibu with a 307ci and powerglide, drum front brakes and paid $4,995.00 plus drove 5 hours one way to get it. Then had to rent a Uhaul trailer to get it home. Heres what it looks like http://www.chevelleforum.net/showthread.php?t=1158

Sounds like you got a great deal .
|
NoWorries...sounds like a really nice deal. I bet that some of the guys here will be able to tell you if it is a real SS by the Vin #'s.

1= Chevrolet 36 = Malibu, El Camino* (Custom), Concours, 8-cylinder 37 = 2-door sport coupe 1 = 1971 R = Arlington, Texas 38995 = Sequential Production Number Nothing in the vin will ID it as a SS Model in 71, in 72 if the VIN has the letter "W" as the engine designation, the car had to be a Z15 SS-optioned Chevelle. While there is this change, Fisher Body Number plates still showed no indication of the option. Engine codes in the VIN were "W" for the LS5/454, "U" for the LS3/402, "J" for the L48/350-4, "H" for the L65/350-2, and "F" for the base/307-2 engines -Could not be ordered with the SS option. The SS package was an option from 69-71 you need paper work to document if it is a true SS . SS Cars 66-68 down started with a vin of 138. Sounds like you got a good deal on your car. As said above pictures. |
Noworries87, be careful with that car man, probably over 400horse and can do donuts on dry pavement, seriously!!
|
Still waiting on the sweep/round gauge question ... that would tell alot.
|
Thats about tha most exspensive part if converting to a SS. Great question?
|
Thanks Shadow, the guy i bought it from said there is a stamp under the body and he said there was an R on the stamp that indicated it being an SS. I dont know anything about this or how to confirm but maybe someone here has heard of this?
|
Hell I gots a "R" in my name .... and I'm no Super Sport! LOL
So whats the dash tell you Noworries? Is the speedo round or sweep?? |

:worthless: Lol Have a great day Ray |
Wow, sounds like you got a great deal whether it's a true SS or not. I paid 4k for mine and it's a base Malibu with 307 and glide and I could easily spend another 1k in just body panels to get rid of rot lol.
|
Sounds like a good deal from here. Welcome to the site. Post some pics.
|
ya i checked around and most chevelles in this condition are going for up to 10k. Sadly, I had to list it for sale. My gf is pregnant and I cant afford to keep it and have it restored with a child on the way.
I tacted on a few k to the price, maybe ill make a little money off the good deal I got. I had a guy price it out and he said I could get 9k for it. I would be willing to take 7500-8k. Im just super pissed off I gotta let it go, i was really looking forward to this. |
Still no pictures? let's see it this beast.
